It's raining pretty steady north of Austin.

Flash flood warning until 2:15.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I've always thought tropical systems don't produce near the thunder lightning as Texas borm storms.

The band that has been rising offshore has been producing a lot of lightening. I can see it all the way from Beeville.

Then again that band formed in state waters... So it might be a Texas born storm

I may be completely wrong about tropical storms vs Texas thunder storms. Just what I've always thought /heard.

Exactly! Those that are in danger have had PLENTY of time with all the hype to prepare. Getting supplies at 3 in the afternoon because your office says go home tells me you are a moron that knows nothing about your surroundings.

Rita hit the same path as Bill and it was a Category 1 storm in Bastrop. All the generators in town were rented and sold out in stores in Austin. That was the first time I mentioned to my wife that mankind was fooked. They did not close the town down for that.

I think Rita was still a Cat 2 when she arrived in Longview. Whatever the case, she was the worst storm I can ever remember in this area.

Rita hit a few months after Katrina. If I remember correctly, it was a CAT 5 or at least 4 at one point and had the lowest pressure ever recorded when it was near Cuba and they were predicting a direct hit on Houston or at least somewhere in SE Texas. It dramatically weakened before landfall, but still devastated SE LA and the Beaumont Area with storm surge.

Not a drop of rain in New Braunfels from this storm. Zero.

It's been raining in Pflugerville for about two hours now. It's a nice soft rain which my grass is just loving.

Closest tropical system in recent times to Bastrop was probably Ike which was a Cat 2 at landfall, but a monster sized storm. Rita basically went straight up the TX/LA border and was a Cat 3 still at landfall. I took met classes in college and one of my professors was big in the storm surge world. His theory was that even though a storm once was a Cat 5 weakened to a Cat 2 or 3 at landfall that it still pushes Cat 5 storm surges.

Oh, she's coming down now. Absolutely dumping now. Couple inches per hour rate as it gets closer. BCS is getting swamped.

Been the same steady rain in north central Austin. Expecting we'll get 2-3" out of this.

Guess I will step out with the flashlight and see what our rain total is west of CS.

2" here. Glad I shredded the pastures last week when I could finally operate without planting my 4WD tractor.

Maybe - Hugo was a 5 but hit as a borderline 3/4 and the storm surge around McClellanville was over 20'. Category-wise it sort of bounced all over the place between 2 and 5.

And our power is out in Belton. I think it went out around 530.

I am headed to San Antonio. Should be an entertaining drive.

4" in a fairly short period. I was out unclogging a drain grate at 1:30 so my garage would't flood. Good times.

i believe there was discussion after ike to reclassify storms to include their surge because of the massive wall of water that ike brought with it.
That surge hit big time all the way down to Corpus. It made a believer out of me.

We get anything in south Austin? I sleep through storms. My tree is still intact so it must've not been bad.

I think I may have gotten 1" at my place in Brazoria County. A far cry from the initial 10"-16" that was predicted, and even still well short of the revised 4"-6".

There are still some bands out in the gulf, so it's not over. But all in all, this storm turned out to be little more than a weak thunderstorm for us. A few bursts of gusty winds here and there, but not enough to even get the dogs all that wound up.

I let the media get to me and worked from home yesterday. Not much got done, but I did manage to finagle an office blowie out of my home "secretary", so it was worth it from that angle.

North Fort Worth was already at 1" by 7am this morning and the rain is really starting to pick up for us. I'm betting we are at 3-4" by lunchtime.
