I drove over Belton Lake Dam this morning too. In fact I drive over it every morning now that I moved there. When I first started looking for houses, and the second time I had ever driven over the damn, about three months ago the lake was 12 feet down. We took my 3 year old to the beach across from the Grille and you could walk out about 100 yards to the water from the parkign lot. Now it is 15 feet over and there is no parking lot.

Funny thing. I moved from Grapevine. I lived about ten minutes from the lake but my kids both learned how to ride bikes, play baseball, soccer, etc. on fields that are now completely under water. We took pictures of them before we moved. And my home course Grapevine Municipal is completely under water.

I just traded flooded lakes.

• Travis County tax offices are closing at 4p.m.
• UT Austin will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday
• YMCA of Austin branches are closing at 6 p.m. Tuesday

• Austin Community College closing 3p.m. Tuesday
• Austin ISD closing at 3 p.m. Tuesday. All evening events and twilight programs are cancelled. Administration will monitor weather for Wednesday
• Huston-Tillotson University closing at 4p.m.; Evening classes canceled
• Leander ISD closing at 4p.m. Tuesday; All evening events have been canceled
• Lockhart ISD will be closed for summer session on Wednesday.
• Luling ISD will be closed for summer session on Wednesday.
• Manor ISD closing at 4p.m., summer school programs will end at their regular time and transportation will be provided as usual
• Pflugerville ISD closing at 4p.m., parents of students at the Extended Day Camps at Highland Park, Riojas, Spring Hill and Wieland elementary schools are encouraged to pick up their students early. Students will be safe and secure on their campus until they can be picked up.

I don't know if I would call it overhype considering what happened about a month ago. If we get the amount of rain they are saying we are going to get, we are going to see major flooding. I don't have a problem with school districts and other companies letting students and employees off early to go home before the serious rain hits. Just my opinion though.

Oh I'm with you on the flooding aspect, but I'd say shutting things down a day early is a little extreme. Tomorrow may be another story, but we will have to see what happens overnight

No, it was off and on. Probably didn't amount to more than an inch or so. Anyway, I think we have the chance to see some apocalyptic rain tonight. I don't think closing for today is right, but I wouldn't fault people for closing or delaying business tomorrow.

According to a video that was just posted on FB, it looks like they are releasing quite of bit water out of Belton now.
