If you pull over in rain or fog, go completely dark. Turn your lights, hazards, everything off. That way a car behind you doesn't zero in on your lights trying to follow the road and plow into you.

As for a flotation device. The only drawback I could see is if it were to trap you under something. If you ended up between bridge railings or entangled in a tree, down might be your preferred path of escape.

There probably is no perfect answer once it's all hit the fan that bad. A lot of quick prayer and a lot of luck are your two best friends at that point.

Judging by the ads on his phone, GasPasser is a Bandido. Well guys I guess we're all going to jail.

Unless you're teaching in New Braunfels / San Marcos area tell those kids to "toughen up, buttercup." Floods, even what Houston dealt with earlier in the week are serious, but they're not PTSD flashbacks to the War serious.
Well, since one teacher lost their house to either straight line winds or a tornado, and at least 2 in the class lost their house to the flooding we had in town on Monday, I would say that it is okay for them freak out a bit. Even in high school, they are still kids, so it is okay to not feel real stable when 90% of the roads in town were shut down 3-days ago due to water over them.

NWS radar indicates a big area of 3-5" accumulation in that storm

Will it field down after dark or just slow down and drench

If it stayed put, would that line of rain help raise Buchanan? That's about the only area of the state that needs/can handle more rain, right?

Intensifying and moving at a good pace

I think the southern edge needs to be a little farther east but I'm not sure.

Buchanan and Ivey still need water. But this will also put water in the Brazos and the Trinity. Those two are about to pop I think.

My folks in Angelo are saying they are getting dumped on. This should really help Ivie get some runoff. If the storm keeps raining and moving like it currently is Buchanan will get a good amount of water too.

This will be massive as it hits Central Texas.

I've been watching this line develop this afternoon and evening, but haven't had time to research the drivers to understand the likelihood of it holding together til it gets here. Looks pretty ripe for another good shot early this morning. The excitement over river drops may be shortlived. [sarcasm] yea[/sarcasm]
crazy pattern we are in these days.

Saw an article somewhere today in my internet browsing about how meteorologist are ticked about how all of this is attributed to climate change. It's called weather

this pattern is amazing. it's just nonstop systems feeding across the state.

Most of the green is cloud tops or very light rain. Although it is an impressive line if it is moving fast it is not likely to cause flooding like we saw Saturday night.

The storms are caused by mountains in Mexico so unless the mountains move they will not converge.

Most intense El Nio I've seen since '93-4? Here in Central Texas. Weather guys expect to last through fall. Skip July and August and back at it again.

I wouldn't be surprised if Texoma reaches record levels after tonight. More rain is long past being a good thing for north Texas lakes.

This El Nio pattern we are in is crazy. All this moisture coming from the Pacific and converging right over Texas and thankfully getting us out of the drought. Tough that it is wreaking havoc in certain areas but we really need it. Never would have thunk that anything but a tropical storm would help our drought

I'm thinking it was 94-95 as I planted my first rice crop in 94. Got it in early, rained the next day and wasn't able to pull levees until my rice was about to head out. If only every year had been like that

Our ranch is ~10 miles east of Buchanan. Our largest tank is still 10' low. Insane how so much of this rain has missed that area.

Here's to hoping Buchanan gets a good run off. Haven't been able to catch a white across from Colorado Bend in 5 years.

That's what is left on the fence in my earlier photos.
This pasture is waist deep and connected to the river after it came over the high bank. Current in the ditch is part of the river.
Jiggs hay patch, waist deep.

Personal note, if you are out and about in affected areas, don't drive around gawking drinking beers and laughing.

2016 April perhaps.
I reserve the right to edit until July 2015.
Lets see how she shakes out once the summer heat gets going good.
El Ninos ,IIRC, typically affect winters and springs away from normal patterns.
We could well see a drier pattern before long once the summer heat sets in.
There is considerable disagreement as to how strong this one will be. We are already in the 'fairly strong' range, let's see if the trend continues.

I've been thinking about how much worse it would be if the lakes weren't so low before this started.

Grapevine I believe is a few feet from it's record high. It started 12-13 ft low.
