Can't argue that. But in most flood conditions, car drownings happen because people drive into the water. Stop doing that, you'll be much better off than with a car full of floatation devices.

I think they found her and the son. I can't imagine the horror the surviving dad/father feels right now.

Unfortunately, this isn't true. Other than the husband and the family dog, they haven't found any of the other family members. The wife and children are still missing. For his sanity, I pray that they find their bodies so he can have closure.

One of the ones that passed in Houston was last seen wearing a life jacket. They haven't said if he was still wearing it when they found him. The speed the water can whip your body, the debris... its hard to survive something like that.

They've found the body of Michelle Charba, which was one of the adults in the house. They've also found a boy's body in the same area, but haven't said if he was Charba's son or McCombs' son. None of the McCombs have been officially found yet.

Discovered yesterday that we lost our 65 year old, couple acre stock tank to the rain. The dam gave way and pretty much emptied it. I hate complaining about rain but we got too much too quickly. Sad day...

Also the snags below the surface that you don't see will get you especially around pilings for overpasses - that's the scariest part even if you fight off what's beating you on the surface there's stuff below pulling you down as well

here is the Brazos as of yesterday in Burleson County, south of Hwy 21. The flood gauge upstream at Hwy 21 measured about 44 ft while I was here.

There is a barbed wire fence here, and about 20 foot of johnsongrass and tangled vines (some kind of grape maybe?). Since i couldn't see the ground, i stayed on the pasture side of the fence and held the camera over my head.

Using the Canon EOS Remote app, I was able to view through and trigger the camera with my other hand.

I walked downstream a bit where i could see the water better and strung out a tape measure.

Keep an eye on that big cottonwood on the other side in this video, we'll come back to it.

Further downstream is a ledge with a trail that you can drive down (when its dry), which leads to a pretty steep trail down to the river. I only walked halfway down the truck trail, b/c water was starting to trickle in about ankle deep.

This pic/video were taken at the water's level.

Here is the spot that would have been at the end of the trail, had it not been under water. I took this pic back in February. I drew a red line along the approximate water height that I observed yesterday. You can see that tallest cottonwood from the first video on the right hand bank.

And Finally, here is a panoramic from the very first spot, taken while holding my tripod in the air. It's stitched together from ten vertical frames.

Terrifying video of how fast those houses in Wimberley could be destroyed. Taken from the second floor.

Found on twitter and posted by Thomas Campbell

Blanco River Flood 2015

Co workers parents house was only 2 along a 3 mile stretch that did not sustain any flooding. Many very large old trees were pushed down along the banks.

All of this so terribly heartwrenching. Can't imagine what these people went through. Can hardly watch the previous video.

Thoughts and prayers and may god help these families find solace.

River officially broke over the high bank in Wallis.
Hay field is our 2nd lowest point, waist deep.

Call me an optimist, but there is some dry ground. Hope those stubborn pos cows find it.

Our cousin down the road can't get his to come up (they have to come towards the river). County says they will close the road this afternoon, so we will cut the fences and pen them on the road if we have too.

In talking with some good friends/dear neighbors who live off of Flite Acres Rd in Wimberley on the river yesterday, they were also caught by surprise by the rise of the river. They're old veterans, been living there for over 15 yrs and it was waist deep in their house before they knew what hit them.

Unless you're teaching in New Braunfels / San Marcos area tell those kids to "toughen up, buttercup." Floods, even what Houston dealt with earlier in the week are serious, but they're not PTSD flashbacks to the War serious.

Brenham was getting shelled by rain. I was on 290 with wiper on at full speed, hazards blinking. Many cars were simply stopped (I was too). You simply couldn't see a DAMNED dthing.

Hazards mean your a hazard. Going slow in the rain is perfectly fine time to do that.

I agree driving into rushing water is a bad idea.
I guess I was thinking what if you found a safe high spot that then became a low spot.

When people got carried off in the Albuquerque arroyos due to mountain rains, they always talk about how exhausted those being rescued are when they are removed.
I could see myself exhausted trying to stay above water, instead of trying to find a way out.

I guess I would rather go out fighting, then drown; but from what y'all are saying - maybe I would not.

You might go out fighting, but the fight is liable to be similar to a gnat vs. my hand. The power generated by that much water rushing is hard to imagine. I don't think the flotation idea is a bad one - anything that might help increase your odds. That said, beyond the power and debris, these situations also happen pretty quickly. Any device probably needs to be within arms reach of where you are seated.

Saw on the news a rescue team demonstrating how you should try to float on your back with the river until you can grab something to hang on to. Avoid fighting the current because as said it will wear you out pretty fast.

Sounds like good advice. Basically save the energy/fight for hanging on (when a chance comes along).

This is true, but most people flip on the hazards and proceed to drive 30 MPH in the left lane.

If you are going to drive with your hazards get in the far right, or just pull over.

If you are going 65 with the hazards on in moderate rain, you are an idiot.

It sometimes makes it harder to judge where a car is if the hazards are on.

This. Also think it's dumb when all traffic is slowed down to about 55 mph and people still have their hazards on. You're going the speed of traffic, your lights are on, we see you. Only thing that does is hide your blinker.

Old bridge support, maybe old FM 60 but I'd bet Railroad out to the cotton fields.

Possibly old locks as well, there was an old lock system along the Brazos. I know there was one down by Millican, I don't recall anything about one here.
