What would you rather carry?

XDM, because I shoot it better and prefer its ergonomics.

Glock every single time. And I don't even like them that much. Springfield just makes a subpar product.

Glock
Length: 7.36 inches
Width: 1.18 inches
Height: 4.99 inches
Barrel length: 4.01 inches
Standard capacity: 15+1
Weight w/ standard mag, empty: 23.65 ounces

XDM: (3.8" compact with standard magazine)
Length: 6.75 inches
Width: 1.28 inches
Height: 4.75 inches
Barrel length: 3.8 inches
Standard capacity: 13+1
Weight w/ standard mag, empty: 28 ounces

To me the width difference is negligible but the weight difference is huge, from the perspective of carrying at least. The capacity difference is also insignificant, although in my opinion the Glock wins in every respect as the Glock can use a variety of magazine sizes including 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 33 (all +1) and third party mags in an even greater variety (for instance, I have a 50 round drum for my Glocks).

I personally carry a Glock 26 and prefer it from a carry perspective to the Glock 19. But that's just me.

If I were deciding this and didn't have a bias in either direction, the weight difference would be the end of the discussion. But at the end of the day you should shoot both and see which one you like better. Try to avoid buying into the marketing hype around the grip safety vs. "no safety". Figure out which one is more comfortable and which one you can shoot better.

And again I would recommend that you try the G26. I love mine, especially with the Pearce +2 grip extension.

They are both waaaaaay to big for me to carry... but I'm 5'5". However They are pretty night and day different ergonomically. I'd shoot them both and check them out. That made my decision pretty easy and I bought a xDm as my nightstand gun.

While true, I don't know if that really relates to the question from the OP. I carry a Glock 19 because I like the dependability of a Glock, but never though about a 50 round drum. Might be tough to conceal.

My thoughts exactly. I' 5' 9" and feel like a shield is too big sometimes.

Anytime I hear the ergo argument with a Glock I think of all these fat handed guys that just LOVE them...

Well I'm 5'5 as well. Are the g19 and xdms too big for me to conceal? I'm just not a fan of such a small gun

To me concealabilty is much less a function of height, and much more dependent upon body type, what type of clothes you normally wear, and where you prefer to carry on yourself. I know a guy who is 5'7" and maybe 140 soaking wet and can easily conceal a full size 1911, where another guy who is 6'5" 250 who may have trouble concealing any double stack subcompact because of the way clothes hang or don't hang on their body.

For me the G19 wins that one 10 times out of 10, but as a 13 year shooter of Glocks I might be a little biased. Never been impressed with the XD or XDM guns.

I'm looking at an XDM .40 vs a SW M and P carry. Both barrels are about 4 inches. Sixteen rounds in one and fifteen the other.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. I actually haven't held the Glock. I ruled out Sig based on me not seeming to aim it well off the nightstand.

But i'm still getting signals from an Aggie friend to get the Sig.

This isn't really a carry concealed gun. More of a nightstand gun, as I mentioned.

...along with most striker fired guns sold. It has passive safeties, but ultimately relies on your ability to not pull the trigger when you shouldn't.

Got three small children. Sheet.

Seriously though,.I will allow my ten year old to shoot it at the farm, but part of our gun safety talks is using the safety.

Yeah, me too. And a "safety" in this situation isn't a lever or switch or device on a gun.

If you have a gun with an external safety that you're leaving in your nightstand because you think that's enough "safety" for three little kids?

Yeah, my kids can't come over to your house to play. Sorry.
