Is it illegal to put out bait for hogs next to a large amount of tannerite? Then pop the tannerite once several hogs are directly next to it? I don't know if it would kill them. Just an interesting topic for discussion.

No idea on the legality, but unless you packed shrapnel around it then it would be useless. I'm not even sure it would work then due to their tough skin. Those are just my opinions tho

Spend the $$ on ammo and practice, then just shoot the hogs. Versus the adolescent, perverted idea presented.
Just my opinion.

Yes it works, but the pigs have to be very close.

actually seen a couple videos... just scares the crap out of the hogs

I would have to think it would be some kind of illegal to pack a 2 liter soda bottle with some kind of shrapnel.

It would be awesome though!

This is the type of idea that'll get tannerite outlawed.

Hogs are not a game animal. Tpwd doesn't care how you kill them. Just kill them all!

TPWD might not mind but generally it's a felony to use something against is label. Like diesel works real good as a plant killer but your not supposed to use it as an herbicide.

It might (of might not) be a call to the tanneirte company to see if this is explicitly illegal. That being said it's only illegal if you get caught.

I wonder if Texags Argentina has an issue with mass dispatching of hogs.

If it just scares your hogs or your hogs skin is really, really, tough......you're not using enough!

It can blow a truck off of it's frame.... so it will kill hogs too!

or you could be a responsible person and kill them in a way that provides the quickest and least painful death.

Blaze, after killing hundreds of these pigs, I'm not sure this tannerite suggestion isn't the best solution and most humane. Never used it but if enough power it would kill some immediately and probably stun/wound others enough to quickly dispatch them. May be more humane than attempting running shots that certainly leave some wounded.
Guess the most humane way is take only a perfect shot (standing still, slowly walking) and don't shoot at the others as they flee but you won't kill very many that way.

Honest to God innocent question. Making a pipe or any other kind of bomb for your personal use and enjoyment is illegal?

So one cannot pack black powder together in a container and light it on fire, without the risk of being a felon?

*Generally speaking, it doesn't work that well.
*It is a really bad idea.
*Even hogs deserve to be killed respectfully.
*The above statements about making explosive devices/bombs and using something that is against the label, are correct.
Smarten up, don't do it.

Blaze,

Why is instantaneous death somehow less "humane" than shooting them with a gun or capturing them with dogs before dispatching them?

Can't for the life of me figure out why you think it is inhumane to kill these living bulldozers that tear up your native grasslands, your crops, and food plots.

I'm assuming you don't have as much of a problem (if any) with them tearing up your place as many on this board do.

I read somewhere that you have to kill over 65% of all of the hogs you see just to break even on their reproductive cycle. I don't care how good of a shot you are, you can't have that level of success even if you have a machine gun!

Until the genetic answer is found to control them, landowners will continue to be behind the eight ball and continue to lose to these bastages!!!

Unfortunately, yes (generally). Those fall under the definition of a destructive device in the NFA '34 if they contain 4+ oz. of powder.

The NFA '34 also spells out that possession of all parts necessary to create a DD is the same as having a DD.

So in theory you can legally make your own, but cannot posses 4+ oz. of anything that can be considered fuel for the DD.

I'm going to shoot hogs tomorrow. No tannerite or destructive devices will be used other than some feed corn and an AR. I will aim for 65%.

I love tannerite. But think this is a terrible idea. But I can tell you if you blow up 50 lbs at one time, you won't have a hog problem for months. They still aren't coming to my feeder.

Sawgunner, no disrespect but I don't understand your position on killing pigs with "respect". They aren't a game animal and to me, deserve no more respect than a roach, scorpion or rat. if your house is infested with rats are you Saw, looking for most effective or most respectful way to dispatch them. Guess you could respectfully live trap them one at a time, and shoot or otherwise respectfully kill them, or you could kill them in most efficient manner available.

Look, never messed with tannerite, but if legal for me to position claymors and remote detonate a bunch of sounders of pigs on my place, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Frankly sounds more respectful than shooting them to me. Where do you draw line at respectful? Is it ok to poison pigs? How about roaches? Fire ants? Poison must be horrible way for anything to die. Guys like you who may not have a pig problem might oughta not be judgemental about the methodology of eradicating pests. Maybe you should smarten up.

Because I was taught to make a kill cleanly and as humanely as possible. I was taught by the old school guys that had respect for the animals they killed. Something it doesn't sound like you were ever taught.

Blowing up tannerite with shrapnel is not humane and instantaneous. Sure you might kill 1-2, but the majority will be hit by shrapnel and run off into the woods. At that point, you're going to let them suffer a slow painful death. No animal deserves to die a slow painful death just because some kid wants to get his jollies off with tannerite.

And you know what they say about assuming...

Sad the number of people on here who have little to no respect like this. Makes you wonder where daddy or grandpa was.

So....let's get extreme shall we? Have you ever used a bug exterminator company? Are you ok with dogs taking down a coon or a hog as opposed to a bullet? If TPWD found a viable way to poison hogs that could effectively reduce their numbers in the state, thus reducing the damage to crops/property, would you be ok with it? Or would you be against it because the poison might be a slower death than a bullet? Do you feel the same way about roaches/spiders as you do about hogs?

That's what many of the folks here are trying to say about hogs. They don't care if they die slowly, quickly, violently or quietly. They're just trying to exterminate hogs on or near their property. I honestly don't care either way, but I can see both sides.

And this may seem weird, but if someone is just doing it to see a pig blow up, it makes me a bit uneasy. If someone is doing it to try and protect their farm/ranch by killing or scaring away as many pigs as possible, I don't really have an issue with it. I think intent goes a long way.

Depends on the method in which the poison kills the hog.

I kill bugs by stomping them out/bashing them flat/whatever. I don't sit and pull their legs off or light them on fire with a lighter.

you're another one who doesn't get it. Thats ok, I was just raised differently. I'm far from an animal rights type person/PETA terrorist. I just was taught differently... make clean, quick, humane kills and don't just kill animals for the fun of it(in this situation, I can and support culling them as they are destructive).

Awesome thing is its MY opinion. Just like you guys have your opinion. Sure are some wadded panties in here from you guys.

I'll go out with any of you guys and blast hogs all day long... but I'm not going to condone taking tannerite and putting it in a 2L bottle with shrapnel in hopes of wounding tons of them
