My birthday is coming up and we are going to look at boots today. What are the differences? Also, any websites I should look at once I know my size in a specific boot?

And yes I'd love to get some custom boots made and will someday but that's just not in the budget or timetable right now.

No way to tell shoe size online. Just go try them on and see what feels right. I really like my 1883s.

What's the difference between the 1883s and the classics? That's my biggest question.

I plan to try them on local but buy from wherever is cheapest. Any suggestions on sites or places is welcome.

Try Sheppler's site.

Classics are pegged, and made in El Paso, 1883s are glued, and made in Brazil, TMK.

Classics will last a VERY long time.

No.

SOME 1883 are made elsewhere. All Classics and 1883 styles starting with N are made 100% in the USA, at the El Paso location.

Thanks guys. They are pricey. And I can't find them online any cheaper than Cavenders. That surprised me.

In the fit department, the arch hurts in both boots, especially in the outsides of both feet. The fit everywhere else feels good. Just a little rise in my heel when I step, good and snug across the middle of my foot, but the arch concerns me. Trek me it will break in and fit like a glove.

Why the outdoor forum? Aren't Lucheses made for the soft carpet or corporate board rooms?

Hah! I don't plan on stepping in any board rooms any time soon.

Any advice on the fit fellers?

Sounds like you may be flat footed. You could try insoles, or a brand of boot with a lower instep.

LG are you talking about the 1883s or Classics?

I've got flat feet and the 1883 Cowboy style boots kill my arches. Had a pair and ended up selling them on eBay. That will never go away from breaking in.

My arches are fine in the Classics and the 1883 square toe with the lower heel

I thought they were 1883s. The clerk at cavenders said they were Cowboys. Unfortunately, black cherry classics aren't in my wife's birthday budget.

Well, dang it.

I've got some flat wide feet. When I purchased my Caymans I had the store stretch the area that was too tight. This aided in breaking in and form fitting without causing any pain.

I have wider/flatter feet and Lucchese 2000s. When I was tried the first pair on it felt like there was a roll of quarters under my foot. The guy at Cavenders said they could flatten it out, but I went with roper style boot and it felt right.

Wear them nearly everyday in the office. Wolverines when I'm in the field.

I got a pair of 1883's about 3 years ago, and I wear them at least 3 days a week. They are like slippers they are so comfortable. Reasonably priced if I recall.

Funny timing on this topic.

I am wearing a brand new pair of 1883s bought yesterday at Cavenders in Austin - "Mad Dog Goat". My first pair of boots in a very long time. Like them a lot. Made in the USA.
