Outdoor related because I'm often worried about losing it in a river or lake.

10K Men's rings are now over $1200...I also have my grandpa's 33 pt diamond in mine - have not had it appraised, but figure anywhere between $300 and $800 replacement cost, bringing total to ~$1500-$2000 replacement.

Do any of you have your ring scheduled on homeowners insurance? Did you have it appraised, or are you using the new Aggie Ring cost per The Association? My policy suggests scheduling for individual jewlery items over $1500

I need to do that after hearing about a few people getting theirs stolen. A buddy of mine lost his within a year of getting it skinny dipping with some strange on a beach in Florida.

I have both our aggie rings and my wife's wedding set insured. I got appraisals done by chuck after he made the ANIVERSARY band

Get a seperate policy for them, dont schedule them on your home. That way you dont pay a deductible and it may not be covered worldwide. ALso some homeowners have jewelry specific amounts.

My aggie ring got appraised close to 3k, back last april. No diamond in it.

I would call your current carrier and ask if they have a personal articles policy, or something similar to that.

I have mine insured.

I think I pay $35/yr with USAA and have it along with 2 watches and other expensive items.

My guns are covered by my renters, but with my ring and watch, I wanted something in case it falls off or otherwise leaves my possession.

I've got my wife's wedding ring insured through Jeweler's Mutual and have had no issues with them so far. I've been meaning to get both of our Aggie rings insured as well, but haven't done that yet. It'd be worth it to take it to a reputable jeweler and have it formally appraised. Chances are with the price of gold these days, it's worth more than you think.

We had to make a claim on my wife's ring when she chipped her diamond and Jeweler's Mutual didn't bat an eye at covering it.

Scruffy... you better check that renter's policy (if it is with USAA as well.)

Mine has a specific $500 limit on firearms and jewelry, so I carry VPP on those and the fiance's engagement ring.

I'll check again, but I'm pretty sure they're covered.
If not I'll add them to my Personal valuables insurance.

Thanks for the possible heads-up.

I had mine appraised and have it scheduled on a separate policy. No deductible, all risk(basically includes stupidity also). The jeweler that appraised mine actually called the Association to get the amount. Balfour cuts a heck of a deal for Aggie rings. About half price based on gold weight.

Just looked at my policy. The homeowners will cover up to $1500, but not due to accidental loss. I have fiance's engagement ring scheduled as valuable personal property - 0 deductible and open peril...costing me relatively pennies. I beleive I'm going to get the Aggie ring appraised and added on personal property as well.

Thanks for the input!

I have my firearms under USAA renters insurance as well and they know the value of them and they said they are fully covered if something happens to them at home (stolen). I have my Aggie Ring under their VPP which covers lost, stolen, etc.

Guys, just telling you to double check... if they "know the value" are they tell you they will replace them in the aggregate? Or will replace one if it is stolen?

Had this happen to my parents back in '94, but with jewelry. Only $500 was covered. Mom, Dad and I all lost our HS rings. We got a total of $500 for them because they were under the standard homeowner's policy.

Take it for what it's worth. I currently have USAA Renter's and they only cover $500 total under my policy. So, if all my guns were stolen, I'd be out a lot more than that...

I schedule my jewelry (rolex and aggie ring) guns and artworks separately than homeowners with State Farm. It's more expensive than what I am reading here but fully covered.

USAA has a 10,000 limit on firearms at least my policy with them does and I'm not paying anything extra.

Anything under 20,000 I self insure.

That 3 bucks a month adds up. I got my ring in '98 so that is 16 years aprox x $3 X 12 months = $576 by my math.

I agree with not swiming or doing other high loss activities with it like swimming the river. You can buy another ring but it won't be the same......

wadd,

Thanks for reminding me to look at my policy.
I see I have $2k for guns. While that is fine for what I own, I did see I need to up my coverage above what I have now for other property.

Oh, and make sure you buy repacement value coverage. Say you lost an AR that you bought 5 years ago at $600. Today, the same gun wil cost you $1500-2000 to replace. You will get a check for the new gun's price. Without the replacement value, you will only receive the depreciated value of the item.

I think replacement cost coverage is like $1 monthly and well worth it.
