Cross post with the Travel board. Forgive me if this is bad etiquette.

We flew into and out of Billings. That drive through the northeast entrance is absolutely breathtaking. Most beautiful way in/out.

We are flying in and out of Bozeman this summer. I agree the drive in the North entrance is amazing and most don't ever go up to the north end of the park.

Remember this as a kid. Billings to Red Lodge down through the north end of the park.

I've been there twice, and have been in and out of the south, west, and north entrances. I think the north entrance, with the huge geothermal feature on the way up, is pretty cool. The south entrance is pretty awesome too if you include the drive up from the Tetons in it.

last time, I was trying to come up from the south in June, and a late season snowfall and icy conditions blocked the south entrance. Thousands of cars were being turned back. I went back in towards Jackson Hole in a June snowstorm, and went over a mountain pass to the west, which was exciting in a 2WD suburban, and came around from the west entrance, where there are a boatload of outfitters, BTW. Came up the Madison river, and slept in the back of my Suburban that night in a campground.

When I went we did Grand Teton first, then Yellowstone...

The flight from Salt Lake City to Jackson Hole is pretty awesome, especially when you fly over the peaks right outside the Jackson Hole airport.

This thread made me go back and look at my pictures from last year's trip. We were there right after the 4th. I really encourage you to make the drive into the park from the NE (Billings).

I grew up in Montana, still have family in Bozeman and in other parts of the state, and travel back in forth several times a year. You will get your best rates flying into Billings, either out of Houston or Austin; sometimes as much as 50% less compared to flying in or out of Bozeman.
The Beartooth Highway (between Red Lodge and Cooke City) is absolutely a breathtaking drive! It usually opens, depending on the weather, Memorial Day weekend thru Labor Day. I always found it amazing when you get to the top; people would still be skiing and snowboarding down some of the mountain sides while we were driving by in June.
There is so much to do in Yellowstone and you could spend days trying to see everything. Have a plan and take your time. If you like firearms, you must go out the east entrance of the Park to Cody. They have a firearms museum within the Buffalo Bill Historical Center you could spend day’s in. (spent two whole days there with Mike and still didn’t get to see it all)
I hope you have a great Trip!

check out Rhett Bain's guide service in Jackson Hole....he is an Aggie. I have been twice and had a blast both times.....visiting Yellowstone twice has to be my greatest outdoor memory(ies) to date!
