I just picked up an Oris TT1 day-date on ebay. I've got about 7 watches now, mostly seikos and citizens, but I'm slowly stepping it up. Next will be a TAG Carerra Calibre 16.

I have no idea WTF it is that you bought, but I have a 7 year old fossil, and the only reason why I bought another is because my previous fossil was severely damaged in an atv crash. Fossil, for the price you can't beat them.

That Oris is nice. I have a Seiko SKX031K and a Zodiak quartz. I'd like to get something nicer, but I can't quite justify it yet.

My watch broke about six or seven years ago. I keep meaning to get another watch one of these years.

I wouldn't try to steer you away from a TAG (yes, it's an acronym), but TAG does not have the horological significance that many other Swiss/Gernam brands have. TAG is merely a fashion design house that bought out the old Heuer company, and therefore has not been making watches for many decades.

Yes, TAG makes a lot of very good watches, and mine has been humming along for 20 years. However, if you want something that is more horologically significant (IOW from a company that has been making wathces for many decades to several centuries), look at Omega, Rolex, Bell&Ross, Tutima, Baume & Mercier, IWC, Chronoswiss, Blancpain, Sinn, Cartier, Breitling, Jaeger LeColtre, etc..

Oris has been around since the early 20th century, and makes a very sturdy watch with good Swiss mechanical movements (mostly ETA movements, IIRC). The great majority used to have sapphire crystals - I would imagine that by now pretty much all of them do. Congrats on a very nice wristwatch.....

This is the watch I got. Not the same one in the photo though. This is my first Swiss auto. I've got a Citizen Nighthawk and a Seiko SNJ-017 with a slide rule.

I have completely given up wearing watches. Which is nice because I was considering purchasing a new one. Now I can afford another game camera instead.

The Oris I just bought used on eBay for $530. New they were around $1200. The Citizen Nighthawk was $300 but I think you can find them cheaper now. It may seem like a lot to some people, but it's a hobby I ejoy and I definitely spend more on guns. I like doing the research on different brands and their history. I like learning how they work. I know a $15 quartz Timex will keep the same or better time than a $20,000 Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore, but I liken it to pieces of art. I appreciate the engineering and skill it takes to design the hundreds of tiny parts spinning inside the movement.

LSRR, I have that exact same oris. Dad gave me and my brother one as ha grad gifts. Be careful with the rubber watch band. I had two break before I ended up getting the metal band. I love the back of the watch! Pretty awesome to see the inside moving.

I'm a watch guy. TAG Carrera chrono, Tissot touch, luminox seal, several others. Oris is a mighty fine watch Congrats!!

I actually just sent it back. I wore small on my wrist which is surprising considering it's 42mm and I have small girly wrists. I bought a 44mm TT1 titanium diver instead. Should be in on Saturday.

LSRR if you are looking for a TAG be sure to check out the outlet in Cypress. I got my Aquaracer Calibre S there a few years ago while they were running a Memorial Day sale. I think I got it for about 50% retail.
