Everybody needs to chill out. I found it funny that the shirts my wife calls my "old man shirts" are now getting popular. I find it amusing. I'm not obsessing about "about what other dudes wear". Quit trying to out-man everyone.

Irony:

Saw Pat Green in the Charlotte Airport in June.
He was wearing a Columbia.

P "F" G wears PFG shirts.....made me laugh....
He also has a white iPhone... Fail....

I've been a big fan of the Columbia shirts for a long time now. I tried the Magellan but they just didn't fit as well or hold up as well either.

As for paying $60 or more for the UnderArmor, Orvis, Patagonia, Montauk Tackle Co, etc. type shirts, especially the long-sleeve performance t's I am completely OK with that. I've found that I'm paying for quality and besides I'd spend $60 on sunblock pretty quickly, I don't have to spend that now.

Plus, I don't need 43 pockets.

I think this is a re-hash of the early to mid 80's frat/preppie thing with the pastels and boat shoes.

I personally find the fishing shirts chafe like a mother when they're wet or full of sand and salt crystals from dried sweat. I much prefer the underarmor type clothes, even though they're in NO way flattering. They dry faster, are more comfortable than even the fishing shirts, and don't chafe when worn under a life jacket after you've kayaked a few miles and made a thousand casts.

I buy the hell out of the target off-brand ones, and wal-mart, too. The Target ones are particularly good compared to the real deal.

Mouth- per our discussion on the UnderArmor-type shirts not being kind to the ol' beer belly, I'm trying these guys out as they go up to a 4XL.

I'm thinking a 3XL will do well:

my only beef w/ teh columbia fishing shirts is that they seem to really accentuate BO. i guess that's the case for most synthetics, though.

My only beef with Columbia fishing shirts is that they are ridiculously priced compared to others that are nearly half the cost and do the same damn thing.

I always think "damn, I need a columbia fishing shirt for bay fishing" but then I realize that sometimes I think the market for them is college frat houses and I head over to Academy to grab a Magellan that is priced correctly. They all come from the same sweatshop in india anyway, right?

I have a closet full of the Magellan shirts. I bought them to wear fishing. I realized how comfortable they are, and I now wear them all the time. I bought a croakie for my Costas so I could wear them around my neck pre-sunrise. I wear my Costas daily, and I've never taken the croakie off. I guess I fail at life, and such.

i agree, however, the soft pfg material is far more comfortable than the cheaper alternatives. worth the difference? who knows.

Oh...id love to have one. Maybe Ill snag one on sale. I just know I have worn out my only magellan shirt...and the last time I stuck a hook through the pocket...whipped out the pocket knife and cut it out without a care....cause they are cheap.

I wear both Columbia and Magellan shirts nearly daily it seems. Hell, I'm wearing a PFG polo style shirt as I type this. And I'm not fishing.

I couldn't care less if they are a frat boy uniform. I'm not in college anymore, haven't been for a while, and don't plan on going back.

They are comfortable as hell to me, hence my love for them. That's what I care about. If you are concerned about your looks based on what some dnozzle frat house standard attire is, college or not, then you need to seriously look at what your priorities in life are, because that's just moronic.

And Academy just about always has Columbia brand on sale somewhere for what is a good price. You just have to look.

The ones I like are the long sleeve variety with the little strap deal to hold the sleeves when they are rolled up. Those are always more expensive. They are super nice shirts thoug.

Jed I found that shirt on sale for $30 at Academy a few months ago. Super comfortable too.

I have a strict "no art or flaps on my ass-pockets" policy. I also refuse to wear anything that has wings or old english lettering or words like "truth, honor, respect...etc". I find if you stick to polo shirts and button-down dress shirts you can't go wrong. Oh, Cinch jeans FTW.

Dog The Bounter Hunter says he will only wear a shirt with another man's name on it if the name is Jesus or Harley-Davidson.

How'd you know?

I guess I'm just amazed when other dudes care about fashion or what someone else is wearing. I work with four other guys and I couldn't tell you what any of them are wearing today, right now. And I spent an hour with them in a meeting this morning. I just don't care. But if men's fashion gets you all hot and bothered, to each his own.

I dont think anybody is saying they are now going to stop wearing fishing shirts and costas. We are just making an observation that not everybody who dresses like they are fixing to hit the water have ever been fishing.

The same correlation can be made with folks in DU who wear drake apparel. I knew some guys at A&M DU who probably never fired at a duck in anger but wore drake 4n1's or the early season pullover.

For the record guys I don't care how you dress just don't dress nekid.

Wimminz can subject your nekid request and they will be granted on a case by case evaluation

I have an A&M (and a couple of others) polo PFG I'll wear the 5hit out of on weekends or Fridays to work. As a matter of fact, I bought one for my horse for when we go fishing, and I got an Omnishade hat for the reds so they don't dry up at the polo field. So there.

Don't forget Crocs went mainstream via fisherman too.

I'd guess the college kids wearing them is a byproduct of them growing up in the era of sunscreen and covering up.

Has the quality of Magellan shirts gone up? In the past there was readily noticeable difference in the quality of material and ease of movement allowed by the cut between Columbia and Magellan.
