I starting wearing columbia and magellan shirts a couple years ago because I was tired of always sweating through my t-shirts on the weekends while out fishing. All of my t-shirts just seem to be too heavy a material and it's just not very breathable. Nothing feels better than to be out on a hot day and get a nice breeze blowing through that back mesh.
And yeah, I wish they would move that second button up about an inch or so and the make the collar just a bit shorter.

I don't know that it's fashion per se. More like the poser motif of guys acting & dressing like they're just off or about to get on the water 24/7.

I'm guessing it's the poser vibe that's the issue rather than the actual clothes.

i judge men based on what they wear.

i started a thread last year about the influx of browning stickers on cars and then talking to people w/ browning and bone collector shirts who have never hunted a day in their life. last week at the theater a guy in line asked if i duck hunted based on the DU shirt I had on and we talked for about 10 minutes about duck hunting. he said it was good to talk to somebody that actually waterfowled, not just wore the shirt

people can dress how they want, but it seems silly for me to wear fox racing clothes when I don't bike or tapout shirts when i'm not involved in MMA.

The same thing can be said about men who drive around town dressed as if they just finished a trail drive to Dodge City, but couldn't saddle a horse if you put a gun to their head!

Everyone cares what they wear or they'd wear flip flops, sweatpants, and wifebeaters everywhere they go. They also care about what other men wear. If a guy is wearing a dress and high heels at a business lunch, you'd think twice about doing business with him. It may be cool to say you don't care what others think, but in the business world, your clothing is noticed and people do make judgements based on first impressions. I started this thread because guys that I know that fall for trends (think ed Hardy shirts and feaux-hawks) were wearing shirts that I wear and have never (to my knowledge) been considered trendy. I find that amusing so I shared it with Texags OB, who I love even though they are argumentative contrarians that will argue with a fence post.

Nope.. i don't care much anymore. I wear the magellan because they are 15 bucks. I'd get the orange or lime green if they were cheaper. I won't buy the expensive ones in other brands.

I wear crocs because my feet love me for it.

I don't look cool, but I feel cooler wearing them, and I fish. I use the pockets, I jump in the lake (or gulf when we go to fla).

I'd buy tarponwear if they were 15 bucks and I knew where to buy them. If they are $100 like I suspect, they are not for me.

Tarponwear folded up shop about ten years ago....maybe longer. They were about $60 or so...Columia showed up with similar material type shirts for $30....so Tarponwear raised their prices to $80.

I love my old Tarponwear shirts but I usually wear them in search of redfish.

I sure hope the Rules Committee doesn't shut me down or force me to wear flip flops.

I must confess I also sometimes wear wading boots when I'm not.

I wonder if the buff face masks will catch on with the fratties as well? Hard to mug your date at a FB game when there is infused snot and spit in the buff rag. But hey, how about that UV protection.

My observation:

Columbia are more comfortable to me but they get wrinkled and stay wrinkled. I work outdoors quite a bit and like to wear them during the summer. Around clients I tend to not want to look disheveled so I have to iron them once in a while.

Magellan is a little less confortable material but seem to never wrinkle.

Bought my croakies in 2001 and still have the same set..... I guess I fail at fashion according to the board.

I was wearing one of these shirts on May squirrel hunt this year and a nice little thunderstorm blew in. I noticed that when they become absolutely soaked and then air dry all of the wrinkles seem to be gone. Guess they should stay out of the dryer

A friend of mine, and his now wife, both aggies and both in frat/sororities, had her bridesmaids wear personalized embroidered Columbia shirts the day of the wedding to get their makeup and whatever in.

Thought you guys would like that

This thread cracks me up.

My first semester of college(before I got into A&M) I had a professor that would routinely wear PFG shirts buttoned all the way to the top with a TIE and dress slacks. I sh*t you not, but thinking back it does seem normal for a psychology professor.

I assume you know that every Columbia "fishing" shirt may not be made out of the same material.

They look about the same but some are 100% Cotton...some are 100% Polyester and some are 100% Supplex Nylon....the original fabric Tarponwear used. They will not all feel the same of course.

I have some Simms shirts that have about 10% cotton in them to create a better feel.

If you take a shirt that is 100% Supplex Nylon and compare it with basically the same 100% Supplex Nylon shirt but spray the thread with something like Entera....a wicking material....prior to weaving they will feel different. The latter one will dry quicker or stay dry better.

Likewise a 100% Supplex Nylon shirt with Entera will feel different depending on whether or not the thread was sprayed or the fabric was sprayed.
