The cigar fest is on the same weekend as the baylor baseball series - I have found out that our group is suppose to have a tailgate at Olsen that Saturday night but I might just go to the cigar fest instead if some of you are going to go.

Dad i hope you enjoy those smokes. Funny that i hit on all smokes that you have never smoked. Glad i did though. Make sure to smoke them with a clean pallate so you get the full experience. Especially with the hemmingway sig maduro they have become really mellow but have some great flavor to offer up.

Manchu,

You will be needing to smoke the Drew Estate Liga Privada and the Cain F first. I smoked the DE Liga Friday evening on the deck after work. Good flavors. Started out spicy, then a hint of cocoa and coffee, and then spice again. Tons of creamy smoke. One thing that I want to see is that if yours has as light a draw as mine did. I noticed that the foot did not look "consistent". The stick was definatley not dried out but the draw was almost too light.

The Cain 550 Maduro was my first box buy. I love those sticks for the price. Just have not had a chance to pick up the Cain F though.

If you have not had one, you should really like the Padron 64 Exclusivo Maduro.

Let me know what you think of the DE Liga, the Cain F and the Cain Maduro.

Anyways, ENJOY!

Had a small get together Saturday night in college station to watch the a&m - bu game.

Was bummed out about the game but fired up the Tatuaje Black Petite Corona that Master sent me and lost my self in that smoke - it really softened the blow of the game.

Really enjoyed it - forgot about the game and got into the smoke - nice flavor all the way through - good consistent burn - hated for it to end.

Thanks Master!!

Glad you enjoyed it! I have smoked a couple and they are really good. Hope i can keep my hands off and see how they age. I am bad about smoking the heck out of smaller smokes that i really like then sit around and cry about not having more. Tat t110 and liga privada #9 flying pigs. I think i powered through about 5 boxes of those pigs in no time flat.

After a long day of construction I decided to smoke one of Old Sarge's pass and take advantage of some excellent weather outside.

The Cain F 654 was a great way to relax after dinner. The smoke was a little bold for my taste, but not too overpowering. I had no problem with the draw and the cigar smoked evenly. I will add a few to my humidor in the future for when I want something a little stronger.

Full disclosure: I am fairly new to smoking "quality" cigars, so I don't pick up on all of the intricacies of the cigar. I am learning though.

ManchuAg,

The Cain series are a straight ligero blend. That is supposedly one of the most potent tobacco of the plant used for smoking.

I have not had the F, but have been wanting one. It is supposed to be a little milder than the Maduro line.

I sent you the Cains because a lot of folks are scared away by the ligero aspect. Glad to see you are going to add a few of the F line.

Now, about he Cain Maduro. It is probably the most potent of the line. I have had the Habano and like I mentioned earlier, the Cain Maduro was my first box buy. I prefer a full flavored smoke. If you are new to those, then you might want to eat something prior to sitting down for the Maduro. Like a prime ribeye

I dip Copenhagen Long Cut in the evenings, so the nicotene from a cigar does not affect me that much.

Even though the Padron 64 Exclusivo I sent is a Maduro, it will not have the punch that the Cains will. In fact, I'd recommend it with a nice drink on and empty stommach, so you won't have leftover flavors from a meal to interrupt.

What is everyone's drink of choice while smoking a cigar? Will some things bring out more flavors than others?

Shock'em, your package is finally on its way, it should be there by Friday. I'll let you know what the unbanded one is if you don't want to guess.

Usually beer, because that's what I drink pretty much all the time.

I also enjoy a number of different whiskys, scotch, bourbon, Irish and even some Canadian. Quality rums and tequilas can also pair very nicely as can red wine, especially bigger ones like a Zin.

If I'm smoking and not drinking it is water or root beer. I actually think a good root beer pairs very well.

I'm going to miss beer and scotch alot in the next few months, but it will be worth it.

To answer the question... beer and scotch, or coffee or water.

I agree with ORAggie. I drink beer with my cigars 75% of the time. The other 15% is split between scotch and bourbon. The final 10% is water, unsweet iced tea, and coffee (hot or iced).

Coffee goes great with cigars especially the darker wrappers.

The majority of the time i drink bourbon with a cigar. The rest it is usually beer or tea.

That is an Avo Heritage. Their newest line, it has the same wrapper as the LE09 Companero. A bit normal from what you'd expect from an Avo.

Perfect. I've only had a couple AVO sticks and I've enjoyed them so I'm really looking forward to trying the one's you sent.

What are those OJA's like? I've never heard of them but the looked and smelled great.

ManchuAg,

Have you tried the Drew Estate I sent you yet? Or the Cain 550 Maduro? Or even better, the Padron 64 Maduro Exclusivo?

Just wondering. Also, since you were wondering about what to drink with a cigar like those, a quality Mexican brew "dressed" with lime and salt on the rim is great.

The beer with the salt, brings out some flavors not always picked up. It accentuates the sweeter flavors, and can really bring out the peppers and cocoas. Especially in Maduros.

Wow, where did the enthusiasm go for this one?

Is everybody smoking, or are they dissapointed with their sticks?

Again, I'd like to hear ManchuAgs feedback on his new found stash?

Sorry for the slow reply Old Sarge. I was away on business for the entire week and have not had time to look at Texags.

Bad news was I was away on business; Good news is I was at a dam construction conference in Las Vegas and had time to smoke two of your suggested cigars!

Padron 1964 Anniversary Maduro:

Since I asked about the drink, I smoked this one with bourbon & coke. This cigar was great! Full flavored but not overpowering. It seemed to get better as I smoked it. Very nice and thank you for sharing. One of my new favorites.

Drew Estate Liga Privada T52 Oscuro:

I drank this after a steak also with a bourbon & coke. This is a much stronger smoke with a spicy taste. It did seem to get a little sweeter/smoother as it went along, but that could have been due to the sugary coke in the drink.

You made some great choices Old Sarge…thanks again. I am going to try to mix up the drinks to find out what works best. Next time I will use coffee or the dressed Mexican beer.

ManchuAg,

Sorry/Glad I ruined you with the Padron 64 Exclusivo Maduro. You are welcome sir. That stick is above average in price, but is a staple in my humidor much like flour, milk and sugar in a kitchen. It just has to be there.....waiting for the right time to be used.

How was the draw with your Drew Estate? Mine was too light almost, but a good stick none the less.

I don't drink much burbon, so don't know about the sugary taste of a mixed drink with cigars. However I do know that the salt with a mexican brew can really accentuate some flavors with the maduro cigars. Much like eating a medium rare fillet mignon. You can eat it like it is and it is really good, with a sweet flavor. But add a little sea salt on a fresh cut piece and WOW. The salt contracts but brings out the sweetness of the meat. Same with a good maduro.

You are welcome for the sticks. My pleasure, as I am glad to share what I think are some quality sticks over a decent price range. I am forever in the search for the perfect six buck stick, but not afraid to splurge when the situation calls.

Don't worry about the Cains. As time goes on, you will appreciate a bolder flavor/buzz stick for the occasion.
