I don't know, but do you want to loan me some extra cash

Sweet rifle, too bad they put rife production on hold indefinitely....not that I could afford one.

Most estimates I've seen range from 1500-3000 rounds.

.308 is estimated to last 5000-10000 rds. Whether this makes a difference or not depends on how much you shoot that particular rifle.

I did not know that ursusguy.

Several factors in the life of a barrel......the quality, how much it is shot, the intensity of the ammunition and the care it receives during it's life. Too much care and it can be ruined cleaning.

I bet there is not any decent manufacturer that puts a rifle on the market that they don't believe you will get in excess of 1000 rounds out of it under reasonable treatment.

1000 rounds is a lot of shooting........

Life is also determined by what you expect from the barrel. Long range shooters who expect .5MOA and shoot very often are going to can a barrel when groups start opening up slightly. A hunter who shoots his box of ammo before deer season will never wear out a barrel (and won't be that good at shooting). Most of us lie somewhere in between, I simply thought it was something worth mentioning. When you talk about taking longer range shots the shooter's ability is going to be much more important than the cartridge he's using. Estimating range and wind come with practice, and that means time at the range, preferably in position you would encounter in the field.

1000 rounds is all relative. For a pistol, AR, or AK shooter it might be 2 or 3 trips to the range. Others may take a lifetime. I don't see 100 rounds with a bolt action gun to be unreasonable for a day at the range, especially if you reload.

I assumed the above was his purpose....not a handgun....not an AR.....not bench shooting and if so 1000 rounds is probably a lifetime of shooting and 1000 is a minimum.

I don't recall a 12 gauge feeling that particularly punishing compared to a large caliber rifle center fire rifle.

I guarantee you that you can shoot out a 308 barrel just a quick as you think you can shoot out a 7mag barrel.

As stated above, there are too many variables to make that statement.

If you push the envelope with any round you will wash the barrel. (basically destroy the throat). That's the area that gets "shot out", not the actual rifled barrel itself.

If you reload and shoot moderate loads with the 7mag, the barrel will last several life times. Same goes for the 308. But if you load hot rounds for the 308, you will be looking for a new barrel in a relatively short time period, just as you will with the 7mag.
