Are any of them fishable?

Are there any wade spots in decent enough shape to fish right now?

The jettys should be good for redfish and sheepshead. The drum will be showing in a few months.

Wading has been good in Seabrook. The coves in West Bay are about ready as well. If we avoid a major freeze, this spring should be epic!

I know of a few places that I'd like to try, I'm more worried about ability to get there.

The dike is closed.

figured that.

Which jetty is going to be easiest to get to(I've been told how to get onto them before but have forgotten). Mainly spoons and live/dead bait off the jettis or are they hitting soft plastics and cranks again?

If there's no big time freeze the specks should go ballistic ....

The South jetty is a little easier to get to. If you are serious about catching reds, throw cut mullet. To get to the S. Jetty, go all the way through Galveston and make a left at the seawall. Go to the end of the seawall and make a right. Pay to get into the park and veer to your left, you can't miss it.

Does anyone know if Skyline Drive is open all the way to the floodgates? There have been quite a few reds caught in there (Moses Lake).

I don't know if the general public can get back on Bolivar yet but there is good fishing this year in the Bolivar Pocket whichis the water on the NE (beach side) of the north jetty.

I've never fished the South Jetty, I think MouthBQ98 fishes there fairly often though.

The Surfside and Quintana Jetties are usually pretty good and Surfside is very accessible and easy to fish from.

As for the Texas City Dike, I don't like to fish there simply due to the amount of crime, vehicle break-ins, and riff-raff around there. Not to be racist but a game warden could sit out there and write 100 tickets a day to the Asians and Mexicans that fish there for undersized fish &/or being over the bag limits. I'm reluctant to fish there due to the amount of crime and it's a shame because there's good water there.

Skyline is open according to several blogs I frequent. I am supposed to go fishing down there in a few days off Mosquito Island, so I will check and see. The deep holes in Moses are hot spots this time of year.

As for the dike, I have fished there for 15 years and have never had a problem with break-ins or crime. Im not saying it doesnt happen, but it is not that bad. Hell, I have had my truck broken into in front of Landry's on the Seawall, but that doesn't mean I wont go back there. The same theory about writing tickets can be applied to a lot of other water too.

Bolivar is open, as well as the ferry to galveston. Bolivar is pretty messed up and is years away from even being cleaned up much less rebuilt. all the piers are gone, but couldn't see the dikes due to pretty heavy fog when we drove through there last saturday. the dike in south galveston looked accessible. there's a small dike on the north end of the island that was open as well.

Ag of 08, are you leaving from CS? If so, I might be interested, assuming I am in town. I dont do much saltwater fishing, but would love to reel in something big.

You can wade along skyline Dr off the rocks near Tx City. I haven't been to east beach since Ike to look at the jetties, but I hear they were pretty wrecked up, and wading was never really good there to begin with because of rip currents.

You want to catch something BIG? Wait about a month, then go fish off east beach in the ship channel. Heavy gear, a whole fresh crab for bait on a big circle hook as deep as you can cast into the channel..

30-50lb black drum.

Drum that big are a blast. When there mouth is big enough to put your leg in.

I also want to go balloon fishing for sharks sometime....

Get a kayak, and go with us next summer off the beachfront. 5-7 foot blacktips and bullsharks, and some bullreds and jackfish at times. Hell, last year I caught a ling, and saw a tarpon, too.

I'm not to enthralled with the idea of a kayak. I can see myself getting in a world of trouble with no motor....

We fish in groups, paired off so we can assist if someone gets a big one... Life jacket, safety gear, etc..

Mouth any good back water flats fishing around galveston? I have a 9wt flyrod I want to take down there. I am going to get a yak and rig it out and get a map of the area, any specific places you like?

mouth, I'm more worried about swinging out into a current and being up a fast creek with no paddle.

I'm sorely tempted though, it could be great fun.
