Exactly. Which is why I'd rather go with monster which tests better. Just look at the data.

Yep. Some 1s are definitely higher quality than others.

You really don't want those to spill out from a leaky connection. The zeros that they come with are unusually toxic.

Now officially a stupid thread and we know who made it stupid.

Actually, spice, if an HDMI connection doesn't function correctly you will have a blocky picture and/or the sound will cut out. Even then it is working intermittently. That's the thing with digital connections. They are either on or off. Signal:noise ratio doesn't matter nearly as much.

To clarify, a 1' HDMI cable and a 30' HDMI cable will both transmit the same quality of picture... So will a 100' cable as long as there is still a distinct difference between signal and noise. At some point the capacitance in the cable will completely filter the signal.

TR - I said earlier "if an HDMI cable does not function correctly, the image and/or audio will suffer"

So yes I agree with you. When the signal is corrupted the picture will be visibly degraded.

I think what folks are trying to point out is that issue may actually be with the HDMI connector on either the TV or the cable box.

Always a possibility, but as I mentioned previously, a direct run from the cable box to the TV, using a non-MP cable, works fine. I didn't test a direct run with an MP cable because I'm fed up with this project. I already have HDMI cables that will work, so I'm sending everything back.

yeah, I get it...it's just that you seem like you don't really want to DIY this. I am not going to insult your intelligence and suggest that you don't know how to verify something works, and then replace various parts with known working items until you find the culprit.

It just seems like you don't want to do that...so you would have been better served to just pay the electrician to do the job and be responsible for making it work.

I actually DID want to DIY this, but since the electrician was already there to install a new outlet for the TV, I went ahead and let him run the HDMI too. I know it's a simple install, but he was already there.

As far as verifying each component, I see your point but I've already had to do two orders from MP for what I consider a "basic setup" and it didn't work after using their instructions. I don't think I need to spend any more time testing 1 cable at a time.

The cable that feeds from the wall had come loose to where the coupling was loose and causes the little pin to receed and not make a good connection. This might have affected it. also, the cable box got replaced. It might have been something with the cable box.

I knew that going into it but I was using brand new cables and wall plates. I wrapped the HDMI connections in electrical tape, per the electrician's suggestion, for extra security. However, the tape did not actually touch the gold ends of the cables and connectors.

Sounds like you've got some bad links in your chain. I'll go a head and justify my lazy approach at using a single cable.

Lucky for you, blue and orange both sell HDMI wall plates and cables, so, if you felt so inclined, could replace the MP wall plates with another brand and see if that solves your problems.

Yep, you win this one. I will be going with the "lazy approach" now. I will check out blue and orange too, depending on what I need now.

The issue that you have with 'intermittant' video not working isn't with the HDMI cable. It is the HDCP (Handshake) that the two devices are having. I would turn off 'AnyNet' or any services such as that. Another fix is putting a HDMI switch or matrix in between the connections and that essentially spoofs the EDID between the devices.

BigPete is a troll. He must have the first generation Beats headphones made by Monster too.

I have the beats pill.

I'm no troll. I just got all my monster stuff while I worked there for dirt cheap.

Just following up here...

It turns out that the HDMI issue was with the TV/cable box, not the products from MP:

I'm still going to return everything to MP, except the wall mount (which is awesome by the way). MP issued RMAs for everything, I just have to pay the shipping.

I will revisit them in the future, should I need any electronics accessories. In fact, they had a 10' component cable that I was looking for, but I needed to install it before this weekend so I used Amazon Prime instead.
