How long do you want to ignore this user?
We're looking to move away from AT&T and save some money on our cell bill.

What's the feedback on some of the MVNO's out there --- Mint, PureTalk, Patriot, etc? Seems that could be the way to go, if nothing else than to get away from the Big 3.

We only use about 15 GB /month between wife and I. Both phones paid off. Bill is $113/month cellular only.

Thanks!

We switched from AT&T to Mint, did the introductory unlimited data for $15/month to try things out. Haven't really noticed any downgrade in service.

Just renewed at 15gb/$20/month plan and paid upfront for a year. That's the "catch" you pay upfront.

Had to unlock my wife's phone, which was an easy form request on AT&T's website. She got a new SIM card and I did an eSIM. Very easy to do with instructions from Mint.

Thanks ATL... good to know. I should have also mentioned... we are looking for new phones on sign up with new plan. That could be limitation with the sub-providers.

We've had Verizon since 2011.

We switched from AT&T to Pure Talk a few years ago. We don't use that much data each month, but they offer higher plans than the $20/line plans we have for my wife, daughter and I.

My Tracfone plan is around $200 a year for one phone, but it doesn't include much data. I think maybe 12 GB for the year.

Yeah, wanting a deal on a phone will be an issue with the cheaper providers. Unless you don't mind an older version phone, maybe.

If you have xfinity WiFi at home their mobile plan is probably one of the better ones out there. It's cheap and they offer deals on new phones. But have to have their home internet.

Next option would probably be t-mobile.

I think I heard an ad on Clay & Buck yesterday for straight talk wireless saying you could get a new iPhone 14 with qualifying purchase whatever that means. Might check it out.

Use Cricket and it's fine. Paying like $150 inc taxes for 4 lines, unlimited data. We also got 3 free phones when I recently signed up for a family plan. Phones were mid-range (Moto G Power or something), but good enough for my kids.

We have used Mint for our personal lines for years (back when they were called Mint Sim...before Mint Mobile).

They have been great. Nothing negative I can think of at all.

(this is for teenagers who use a crap-ton of data)

Was with Mint for a bit, but was having service issues in my rural area because they use T-Mobile towers.

Made the switch to US Mobile and couldn't be happier. If you have a newer 5G phone, they use Verizon. Older 4G phones are on T-Mobile. Great Customer Service. Plan rates are very affordable. You can pay a year in advance for the best rates.

Switched to T-Mobile through Costco about a year and a half ago after hating my Consumer Cellular service and previously being on AT&T.

The initial setup was a PITA as we were porting over phone lines from different carriers onto a single family plan.
Ever since then, it has been great. Use the in-flight wifi benefit all the time, and it's nice getting the Netflix discount, free Apple TV+, and T-Mobile Tuesday deals.

I was at the MLB All Star Game and they had the T-Mobile 'magenta carpet' there. Expedited entry and $20 food and beverage credit at the game just for being a T-Mobile customer.
I've gotten no less than $150 over the last year and a half in addition make-goods after having customer service struggles in getting my Costco gift cards.

They are a step above the rest tbh.

If you consider them, ask the T-mobile rep you're working with that you'd like to use one of their "Insider's Discount codes". If they have any left, this gives you another 20% off every month, for as long as you're a customer.

Ok, I'm done

How are the speeds on MVNO? I assume they throttle them when there is congestion and give their own customers faster and more reliable speeds. For instance, if Mint uses Verizon towers I would assume Verizon would prioritize Verizon customers over Mint. I feel like when I had cricket I was always getting slower speeds and bad connections in crowded areas.

What always makes these decisions tough is you really need test those services throughout your house, your workplace, and the various places you frequently travel.

I had T-Mobile, and the reception was great for me. My co-worker switched to TMo, and lives about 1.5 miles from me, and has a terrible experience.

Now I'm on Xfinity/comcast since that is who we have our internet through. We'll switch.

It's a PITA, but switching will get you the best deals.

Yeah we tried t-mobile and the service at our house wasn't great. May have tried a booster or something but the deal breaker is my wifes, who works from home, work vpn would not work with it. It'd drop connection about 2 minutes after connecting every time. Looked it up and seemed fairly common without an easy solution

Cricket Wireless. 4 lines unlimited everything....$100 all-in per month.

Can't beat it IMO... unless of course your in an area where AT&T is weak. They also offer some pretty good promotions occasionally throughout the year on phones upon sign up.
