Downloaded the game on our computers and going to start playing when my son comes home from school today. Anyone have any beginner tips? Also, do you have links to good how-to videos that are appropriate for kids?

The hand cannon is pretty good too. It has zero bullet drop.

Ninja has some tips that he gives out every now and then. I would say first thing learn how to quickly build up defensive positions, because having the higher ground and knowing how to use it is more important than having good aim imo, at least while you're still learning. Are you using a keyboard and mouse or a controller? I use a controller when I play on my PC just because I'm more used to the way it handles.

Thats good to know as I was a horrible aim at Halo and that reference should tell you how long its been since I've really played shooters. I'm not expecting to be good and I'm pretty sure my son will be way better than me!
We'll start with mouse and keyboard. This is my biggest concern for him as Marvel Heroes is the only game he's ever played using m/k. If he likes the gsme, I'll get a controller. Any (inexpensive) suggestions on controllers?

So a friend walked home with my son and I told them they could play once and then sent them outside. My daughter watched them and jumped on the computer when they left. I have learned she won't listen to teaching, so I only told her how to walk and shoot. She played around the first game figuring it out and then got 2nd place in her second game! She played a few more times and did well everytime.
My son finally got to play and he's too aggressive right now to finish high, but he's discovered way more than I have and is teaching me how to play.

I took a week off, and now it seams like I can't even buy a kill.
I seriously just came up behind someone and hit them with the legendary hand cannon, then a sniper killed them before I got my second shot off...
Edit: Finally got 2 kills before dying in a fight I should have won. Sniped the guy twice so I decided to rush him. He built up and I lost the build war.

Some of these people are insanely good at building! I doubt I'll ever have enough time to practice to get that proficient.
I found my first ever legendary weapon which also happened to be my first rocket launcher and of course I died ten seconds later! I got 3rd and watched my killer battle with the eventual #2. The way he/she could build that fast looked like an unbelievable Pixar movie. I'm glad I stuck around to watch.

Start matchmaking at the same time. If you're not in the same game, quit and try again.
So I toyed around with this game, and I've watched a few videos.
Not trying to be a debbie downer, just looking for answers that tell me why my first impressions are wrong. It seems very repetitive and very level based (meaning if you just jump in as a new player, even if you are good at aim and tactics, you have no chance because you don't have all the cool stuff those that have been playing longer have). It also seems that inevitably the final players always end up just standing at the tops of their towers trying to snipe or missile the other one. The problem I have with that is, regardless of how diverse the landscape is, the ending battles always seem to take place on similar setups, that being generic towers and walls that you hide behind or on.

All of the cosmetic items are for looks only. As you level up, or if you purchase items, it does not give you an in-game advantage. Everyone starts on a level playing field every match. The weapons are randomly cycled around the map, but some places have more chests, etc. than others.
Building absolutely helps. I still need to get better in this department. However, the endings vary depending on the circumstances. Someone may build a large fort, and then the circle moves away from them and they have to abandon their fort. Or the final circle may be in Wailing Woods where your vision is limited and that changes your approach. However, rockets definitely give you an advantage.

1. What is the purpose of seasons in Fortnite? How do they work?
2. Do the purchases from one season carry over to the next? Can you use a season 3 skin in season 4?
3. I am leveling up in the game, but what's the benefit if we're all on the same level in each game?
4. What are the hot air balloons for in the game?

In regards to an earlier post, every match starts the same. Everyone starts from scratch regardless of what skin you have. The trick is to loot quickly, kill others and steal their loot/upgrade, gather materials, and build. Every game evolves differently and ends differently. However, generally speaking, the player who does all of the above the best will win regardless of what skin they are using.
And sometimes you can make your own luck playing smart even if your not the most skilled. I got a solo victory this weekend after watching the the 2 best players go off on a building battle. After one died, I shot down the fort causing the other to die from fall damage. Then it was a matter of clearing up the last player.
I'm totally hyped about season 4. Vbucks ready to cash in and earned enough in save the world to also get the new "tidy" emote!! (Got to keep up with Drake!)

Logged on briefly via iOS while waiting at my daughter's bus stop this morning. Dusty Depot is now Dusty Divot. I'm anxious to run around the map and see if their are any other areas that show new damage from the meteor strikes.
Haven't played it yet but seen a few streams, and I am SUPER bummed out about the "hop rocks". Might as well have called them "Halo Rocks" because it makes the game look and play just like Halo. Can't wait to hear what the pro players think of it. Just fundamentally changes the game play.
No more 50 v 50 sucks. I liked that mode the best.
I don't mind it since it doesn't appear to be an item you can carry in your inventory and use later (not that I would carry the item in place of a weapon, shield, bandages, etc. anyways) and it only lasts for a short period of time.dtkprowler said:
