Yeah I have to hope that as the game gets out of Beta there are more players because it sucks to be a Lvl IV BB or DD and have level VI ships floating around.

Had a fun game last night on that level with like the ring of islands that almost looks like an eye. We had a cruiser blitz to capture B in the middle of the circle. I headed that way seeing he would provide a nice distraction. He was quickly wiped out by BB outside his range. I was able to sink the enemy DD with a good torp spread though while I finished the capture. Problem was everyone could see me due to the DD and I high tailed it out of there while being pummeled. I had like 250 health left before I got behind an island. Pretty damn close. I turned back toward everyone as they were circling the islands. I put a guess on a cruiser coming around and island and devastating strike with my torps took him out in one spread. Our carrier wasn't paying attention and got isolated behind the enemy. I headed that direction and sunk one of the BBs attacking it in a single spread which was awesome. A cruiser got close enough to spot me though and I was dead soon after. We did end up winning that match and felt cool to deal so much damage with like no health left.

Matchmaker usually tries to put you in a match with ships within 2 tiers of where you are though occasionally you get a 3 tier difference. I have seen some pretty horrible examples of match maker. Yesterday I played a game on my North Carolina (Tier 8 bb) and we had a tier 8 carrier. The other team had two tier 4 carriers. It made no sense whatsoever. Obviously they had their squadrons shredded. It generally does ok but definitely needs some tweaking so stuff like that doesn't happen.

We downloaded something but it wasn't the patch yet as far as I can tell. They're supposed to do some testing for it this weekend. Not sure when it's going to be implemented. A new feature will be ranked battles only for tiers 6 and 7. So get your ships up and we can pwn some bastages!

It's the patch but not the active patch. They'll do some kind of alpha live test of the rank battle system ( 900 things wrong, and they're adding ****.... smh), and see how mad people are at the bb gun buff etc.

These ranked battles....... yay for 14 Cleveland battles...

I think ranked battles will include one cv and 2 bb's. The rest may be clevelands. Does anyone else use an nvidia gpu? I keep adding this game to the control panel and every time I restrat it drops it and I have to do it again.

THANK GOD! My grind through the Pensacola is finished! Guns so far are glorious improvement over the Pensacola, but need the range mod desperately to be competitive. Which I don't have enough XP for yet.....

Edit: So looking through my three or four games I've done in the New Orleans, repair bills if you sink are in the 100k range. It's very easy to end up running a deficit if you have a bad round.

I feel like I've angered the soup Nazi today. No wins for you! Massively unbalanced CV games against me with some awesomely amazing ridiculousness like having torps dropped on me literally through an island. I may have to uninstall for a while.

Yeah, it's pretty rough sometimes. I recently started playing the Kawachi so I can eventually unlock the ijn carriers. Almost every map has been 3-5 range, with a few 3-6 thrown in. I still don't think I've gotten a win with the x2 bonus.

Bad part is, they're going to Uber need cv's, and kill them off. The average cv player is barely able to have a decent game.

They really just need to make sure each team has 1-2 carriers every match, or none. One team having one is extremely rough for the team without one.

Good New Mexico game from today. Would've been better but a friendly dd smoke screened two Murmansks that were broadside to me at 6km out so I couldn't fire at them...

Has anyone played destroyers past tier 6 for either country? I'm curious how boring is it with torpedo reload times over a minute, some reaching 1.5 to 2 mins? That has me considering a shift in focus to cruisers or carriers more.

I haven't, but I haven't played them past tier 3 either. Based on playing against higher tier dd's, they seem to operate more as area denial ships. I will not go into or near an area with islands or straights on my bb if I know there is a dd floating nearby. Imo, good cruiser players tend to make or break games in higher tiers. CVs are important but a well timed AA ability and escorted bb's and CVs can neutralize a torp drop or a bb getting ganged up on. Thats usually how I die on my bb. Several cruisers or bb's and a CV will gang up on me and of course I'm unescorted because god knows what our cruisers are doing... Thats assuming there is CV balance between the teams. If not thats a different story.

The highest I have gotten to is tier 5 on the IJN and USN DD (sold all my USN DD's) line. At tier 8 on the USN cruisers, DD's aren't really as much of a threat. To be effective, the enemy DD's have to get a good bit closer to actually be effective as most ships can avoid them for the most part. When you have torpedoes in the water for about a minute, you can see them coming from a ways off. That is unless you have two DD's working together, then they can be quite deadly.

I remember seeing a youtube video that mentioned that rudder shift times for every ship in the game were being tested, but that the DD lines don't benefit from a change as much. Which to me means that for the most part, torp sniping will go by the way side for most DD players and they will actually have to get into the fight or spot.

Knife_Party is right about the higher tiers though. Most of the time DD's act as more of an area of denial force than anything else. I have a higher chance of getting my ship sunk by plane launched torps than getting hit by DD launched torps. You will find yourself at the higher tiers in CA's and BB's lobbing shots further than you do at tier 5 and below as the shells fired travel in much more of an arc than at the lower tiers. You can see this in the Phoenix especially where the arcs of the shells are much more flat.

@Knife_Party, I felt the wrath of a Colorado and North Carolina last night.... One volley from a NC took away over 3/4's of my health in my New Orleans....

Heck yeah. When I have the opportunity to put my front forward and close with a cruiser I can make life very tough for him. That's why it's equally important to stick near a good bb as a cruiser. If he sees a bb near you he can take some shots on him and distract him, or even better, try to get a flanking position that either forces the bb to expose his side to the cruiser or retreat. If you can coordinate it that's actually a good strategy against a bb. Spread wide but close (10-15km or less) so he's exposed against at least one enemy. I feel like cruiser life is pretty hectic. You've got all these people around you and any of them can pen you. You have to hope that only one bb is firing at you at most, otherwise during the juking your broadside is bound to come open against someone you didn't see.

Played again for the first time in a while. Fi ally unlocked the south Carolina and got my first taste of BB action. It's pretty fun....but I find I either play like a god or play like doodoo. One match I only got 3 hits in before I ate 6 torps that came out of a smoke screen that I was nearly in. The very next match got in like 50 plus hits and sank 4 ships including 2 other BBs. It's equally rewarding and frustrating.

I've lurked in the WoW forums for a bit and saw all the complaints and thoughts. The overwhelming sense I am getting is...

CV torps are murderous and need to be fixed...and that DDs are pretty much worthless in the late tiers.

So with that I think I will be sticking with the cruiser line for now. I don't play much...maybe an hour session every other day. Trying to keep myself from getting to heavy into this game like I did world of tanks and war thunder. Trying to think of it as a light time waster. Fingers crossed!

I'm at the Mahan (Tier 7 US DD) right now. Though I am only stock, I actually like it a little bit more than the Farragut. 5 guns stock at least makes it competitive against other DD's. And at least one of the higher tier maps is ok for 4.5km torps (which I can't wait to get rid of). I mainly play as a DD hunter and switch to whittling away BBs with fire when the DDs are dead. I dont really notice the torp reload, because its no often i have a chance to use them. That will change when my range increases, though.

I play a lvl V Japanese destroyer and have a lot of fun with it. 3 launchers are a big improvement. Thinking of getting the upgrade so torps have a 10km range. For the most part I agree with what was said above. My main goal is to get out front and spot/cause cruisers and battleships to have to dodge my torps and become less effective in shooting my cruisers and battleships. If the region I head towards has an opening to sneak through to get behind their group or if after a few are destroyed, I'll make a run to get behind them. That way I can sneak in on BBs and carriers much easier and knock them out. Cruisers are much harder with their maneuverability to take out so I have to get much closer to give them less time to adjust which is risky or ambush them using islands. A 2 minute load time for torpedoes seems a bit much. I was pretty upset when I realized the load times got longer for each destroyer. To me, that doesn't seem in line with what is realistic but I guess I understand it to some degree to avoid spamming them but still a torpedo is a torpedo and shouldn't require longer load times. It makes it almost not worth going up levels some times because your advantage of higher level ship is offset by everyone else being higher level as well.

I did just unlock my first carrier. It was pretty fun but a little slow going. Torps were pretty weak, would take 3 broad sides of a BB to sink it. Hopefully gets better as we get up.

Once you get 3 dive bomber squadrons and 3 torp plane squadrons its pretty much lolbyebye to any ship thats somewhat separated from the pack.

CV torps from a knowledgeable player that manually drops the torps are extremely deadly because they 1) drop closer and 2) have much tighter spreads. If a CV driver wants you dead, you're toast. I'm not to the higher tiers for DD's yet, but I still get hit with them every once in awhile in my New Orleans and Cleveland (sometimes get pulled into tier 7 and 8 matches). I think good DD drivers know their craft well and are still effective. I think most of what you see is the people who like to shoot from 10+ km and get sinks/hits, sniping from beyond spotting range. With the alert range being increased for torps (IIRC) most people that don't have tunnel vision can maneuver to avoid the ships.

The overpowering nature of CV's at higher tiers is really felt when a team gets two CV's. I've seen an IJN carrier pretty much carry a team, several times. Two IJN CV's on one team pretty much seals victory for that team, unless that team is so disastrously bad and end up being sunk one at a time. It becomes quite cumbersome having to watch not only for DD torps, but also having to look for torp squadrons as well and trying to preemptively evade them.

What carrier has 3 of each? I just bought the Independence, base load is 1 fighter/1 torp/1 dive.


thaed, the Minekaze is so much fun. The Tier 6, Mutsuki, is less so b/c it only has 2 torpedo launchers (3 in each) and takes a full minute to reload.

Plane launched torps do less damage. Personally I think that it's fine as they are damage wise in relation to the other lines. Most CV players sit at the edge of the map the majority of the time, so them not getting kills all the time from plane launch torps doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I think it's the tier 9 and 10 CVs. May only be the IJN ones that have 3 of each. At some point they all get multiple squadrons of bombers and torp plane.
