Awwww man time to break it out again

Got a PS4 for Christmas so bought this gem for $28. Rough game but I'm improving. Can get to the werewolves on the bridge before dying now. Hooray?

quote:I finished the entire DLC on the day it came out...took that week off for Thanksgiving. The boss battles were some of the best from soft has created. well, besides living failures.quote:There is that door from the house leading up to the bridge...Just sayin...

I finished up the DLC over the weekend. Man, that is some good stuff. That said....Im ready for Dark Souls III.
As great as Bloodborne is, I prefer the slower gameplay of Dark Souls...Feels more strategic.
quote:Yeah, I really liked the bosses as well. (Didn't like the first one though...I much more prefer more "humanish" bosses).quote:I finished the entire DLC on the day it came out...took that week off for Thanksgiving. Funny, cause I much prefer the faster combat of Bloodborne. I went back and got the platinum trophy for Dark Souls to prep myself for Dark Souls 3, and the entire time I played with a character with 0 poise and Dark Wood Grain Ring. But I do agree, Dark Souls does feel more strategic. Bloodborne does have more of a glass cannon mentality. But I really like that mentality.

Im glad both games exist and hope they continue with both ideas (whether they call it "Souls" or "Bloodborne" or not).
To me, the Souls games feel deeper and richer. That's certainly true for the character builds.
Also, I think I have never quite forgiven Bloodborne for the story and world. I originally thought we were getting Edgar Allen Poe gothic horror with a very human story . . . instead we got . . . well. . . I wont spoil it.
I came around eventually, but I remember distinctly in the Forbidden Woods and seeing some type of enemies for the first time and thought "oh you are kidding...really? This is where we are going... ugh...."
quote:Oh don't get me wrong...the design and execution of the Lovecraft themes were outstanding in every way. It was my own expectation that got in the way. I wanted more Cainhurst and Central Yharnam...less "Nightmares." I did eventually come around on it, but I had to work to get there.
Souls is definitely much deeper, the amount of variety in characters, weapons, world, etc is unmatched. And at this point I don't think it's much of a spoiler to say the story goes full Lovecraft. From Soft definitely likes putting fantasy elements in their games at this point. Without it you wouldn't get some of the more disturbing bosses in Bloodborne, thus lowering its variety lower. I for one loved the story, especially after catching up on the lore afterwards and after what the Old Hunters revealed. But I'll admit, the love the lore and story in Dark Souls so much more.
quote:I would find what weapon you think you are interested in. (If you are going strength, looks like its LHB for you). Then min/max your build to that weapon. If Im not mistaken, LHB scales "S" with strength, (double check that), so you would pour points into strength (no more than 50). Find out the min. requirements for both arcane and dex to wield the weapon and just hit those requirements.
I've been putting all my levels into health and strength, with the occasional point in endurance and maybe a few in skill if I find a weapon that I want to use but my skill is just below the requirement.
Am I doing it right? Is there any point to the other attributes?
quote:Possibly, yeah. But the game is very very very vague throughout.
I defeated Vicar Amelia last night, watched the cutscene, and have very little idea what is actually going on in the game.
If I go reading about lore and such, are there any huge spoilers I'll come across? I'd really like to know what is going on.....
quote:
Since you beat Vicar Amelia, the next few locations are when the game goes from uneasy to full out disturbing.
quote:Please continue to post impressions as you make your way further.

It wasn't full-on disturbing already???
quote:oh my dear friend....you have no idea what you're in for.

quote:That's probably right, but I don't think Dark Souls 2 is THAT much lower. (though it is lower).
Bloodborne is good stuff, especially the expansion. Still falls slightly below Dark Souls 1, due to the lack of depth as has been mentioned already. While I love all the Souls games, if I had to rank them from best to worst, it would be...
1. Dark Souls
2. Demon's Souls / Bloodborne
.
.
.
.
3. Dark Souls 2
quote:Took me three deaths to learn that.
I guess it would help if the game told you that weapons need to go in slot 2 to work.
quote:
Im about ready to give up on this game and cut my losses. 4 hours in and I cant even get past the bridge with the two wolves. Plus, the checkpoint is miles away and every enemy is repawned. This is unreal how ****ing hard this is.
quote:
OOOOH! Now I do. What a shortcut.
quote:Also, from that little house that leads up to the bridge...you can lure them...run back into the house...and they can't come in the door.

quote:To follow up on this, one of the bigger changes in Bloodborne from Dark Souls is that most enemies can absorb your blood echoes. You can tell if one has them by their glowing eyes. If so, you can only get them back if you kill it.quote:
Yea but I dont see that it helps. Also Im not getting most of blood echos back. Mabe one out of 10 deaths are they there.
You can only retrieve your blood echoes if you get back to your corpse without dying - if you die again before you retrieve, they disappear. That's why you're only seeing them occasionally - you're dying before you get back to the original corpse.
