Rare game is probably Wizards & Warriors.

I had thought about that, but seems way to cartoony for that. If it is, they better bring back Fabio for the cover!

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say a REAL sequal to perfect dark with alien time travel.

The covers were always super serious on that franchise, but the game itself was a bit cartoony.

Agree 100% with Fabio.

Had another thought regarding the comments about how the XBone isn't committed to games like PS4. What about the 300,000 servers they talked about? That right there could be a very big game changer in terms of being able to bring us a completely new type of game we have yet to see on a console. At the very least it's a guarantee of the highest possible commitment to online gaming... whether that be standard MP or adding new twists to "single player" games like we saw in Demon/Dark souls.

The two new "mystery buttons" have been named and explained:

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/05/24/microsoft-explains-xbox-one-controllers-new-buttons

Pretty funny... basically renaming the select and start buttons but it sounds like, in game at least, they will basically do the same thing as start/select before ( meaning there is no universal in game commands (likejavascriptocument.forms[0].submit(); the Xbox button in the middle), the buttons will be for whatever the dev wants them for).

Major Nelson has weighed in this afternoon with another statment on used/traded games:

quote:
Xbox One and used games

Over the past few days, we have been reading comments and message boards following the Xbox One announcement. There are a few questions regarding used games. I wanted to clarify and provide this official statement:

The ability to trade in and resell games is important to gamers and to Xbox. Xbox One is designed to support the trade in and resale of games. Reports about our policies for trade in and resale are inaccurate and incomplete. We will disclose more information in the near future.

The Xbox One will not require gamers to pay a fee to reactivate a used game, but it will require a regular online spot check to verify the authenticity of games being played, according to sources familiar with the system.

I am really glad that after JFF and our historic 11-2 season, our Battered Aggie Syndrome about the media (ESPN) being against us has shifted to Microsoft and the media(video game sites)

Hey wee, so what you're saying is, perhaps the media has been jumping to conclusions about something that hasn't been finalized. You don't say!

Oh, and I find it hilarious that everyone is screaming "OH NOES, XBOX ONE IS JUST A GLORIFIED CABLE BOX!!!" - Really? If you honestly believe that you have no business calling yourself a nerd.

I'll say it again... you only have to go back to the 90s when controlling a computer with your voice, facial recognition, motion control, etc. was something found in Sci-Fi movies.

MS introduces this and the media's reaction, "Pfft, what about used games!!!!! I don't want to be connected to the interenet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Seriously...

Microsoft introduced Motion Control

Wow, MS really sh*t the bed on this.

And will that thing even fit through the door? Holy f***.

Marsuvees, accuracy of Wii remote motion control vs the new Kinect. I'd go for the no tether option.

Barry, is it bigger than an apple tv? Yes

Is it out of the norm compared to cable boxes, audio receiver, disc players? No

It's both longer and wider than the fat Xbox 360. Christ.

You mean that video games journalists are more concerned about things that have a more direct impact upon video games? I don't even know what to say...

Oh and if anybody still fervently believes in the myth of a complete media conspiracy or bias against MS...[/url]

Pretty sure his point related to gaming and tech media which are typically laughable in their hyperbolic reactions

Actually I think the Kinect and what they are doing on the Xbox One is pretty cool. I even texted a friend about it, even though we both pretty much agreed on getting a PS4 unless Microsoft really wowed us. We both owned a 360 in the past but had moved on to the PS3 when there were exclusives we wanted to play that we couldn't get on the 360.

But to say that Microsoft is INTRODUCING motion control and camera for the first time in disingenuous.

Ironically I'm more excited about what the TV stuff could turn into over the games side.

The developers will be there, especially since porting from PC to ps4 to X1 and back again is going to be a relative cakewalk compared to last Gen.

If they nail the good functions from htpc and can get good content deals this could be very good.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Despite what some are saying, it's way too early to write off Microsoft. Guarantee they're going to introduce some exclusives at E3 and they've already got some big name developers on board.

I think the next few months are going to make it a tougher decision.

Comparing Wii motion control to Kinect is laughable. I own both, and speaking just from the perspective of dance games, they're much more fun on the Kinect where it cares about what your whole body is doing, not just your dominant arm.

Just to clarify, I wasn't implying that MS invented any of this or was the first person to do anything similar. But they are the first to fully integrate voice and motion control into actually controlling a "computer" system like we've seen in Sci Fi movies since the 80s.

The Wii had motion yes, but it was still a video game controller just like the PS move. The first Kinect was OK, but it was an add on. The Xbox One has motion and voice fully integrated and I think it's going to be fantastic. My kids will LOVE the Kinect games and I'm sure there will be some interesting tricks added to the hardcore games.

It's general system functionality is what has me excited though. Party at my place, "Xbox on... play music". Now, I'll just have to teach it to ignore my wife's commands of "xbox, turn that crap down!"

"Xbox on... play music"

They will still have a big problem in my mind.... the one of not being able to play music everywhere in the home a la sonos. I doubt they will be able to fix that w/o allowing multiple logins and to me is a big deal because I want to be able to play music in more areas than just where my tv's are.

But to take that a step further there have been some articles talking about integrating home automation into the xbox one (ms execs talked a bit about it last week). http://www.fastcodesign.com/1672641/microsofts-home-20-will-connect-xbox-one-to-the-internet-of-things

How cool would it be if home automation was integrated into kinect voice controls.

Thanks for that article finally a media reporter that thinks like I do! hahaha

His attitude about it is just as laughable as those who have already determined the demise of the X1 and Microsoft. It's way too early to determine a winner. Post-E3 will be an interesting time to see who's considered best.

The funniest thing I'm seeing now on the interwebs is that the tin foil hat crowd is out in full effect. Their cries of "New Kinect is an always on Internet Webcam where Microsoft is recording video of me constantly! George Orwell! 1984!! It can be hacked and someone can watch me while I sleep! I will not allow this intrusion in my house!" While I'm certain they're typing that on their iPad, iPhone, iWhatever or Laptop that has a constantly on webcam built in that's a lot easier to hack than the Xbox One.

Not that I agree with people that think Kinect is some sort of MS spying device or even particularly different than other devices we already, but what makes you so certain that it's anymore secure than a webcam on your computer? Sounds like they'll be using rather similar operating systems (the 3 OS is still crazy to me btw).

http://kotaku.com/xbox-ones-kinect-can-turn-off-microsoft-says-noting-510100564

Comments in this article are full of the tin foil hats that I mentioned earlier.

Seems now Microsoft failed in their conference because they didn't explain that the kinect and xbox one have a power button and demonstrate how to use it. :rolleyessmiley:

Some of my favorites:

quote:

-If the Kinect could be turned off to begin with why did they not think to mention that during the press conference could have saved them a little bit of headache. Come on Microsoft get your act together, I really want to like your new console but you are just making it so darn hard to.
-Response -- Because there's a million other details they could have also mentioned if they wanted the conference to never end. It was the people with tin foil hats that brought up the concern.
-Response -- Yeah there are a million other details but when they where talking about the new Kinect it would have taken no time at all so say it can be turned off. Also you do not have to be tinfoil hat wearer to not like the idea of an always on webcam.

quote:
If I get an X1 and can't turn the Kinect off until I want to use it, It's going to be wrapped in thick soundproofing foam and a blanket, then stuffed into a box and put behind the TV.

And I will just never use it.
