Did the N64 really struggle that much relative to the Sega Saturn?

Not a bad curse to be associated with. 2/3 of these consoles have been very successful. The Saturn release will go down as one of, if not the worst console releases of all time.
Definitely not all failures, but major disappointments for sure. All made big mistakes that lost them large chunks of market share.
N64 Fail: You could write a book about this. NES and SNES were clear cut world #1 consoles. SNES was suppose to get a CD drive to compete with Genesis CD. SONY was suppose to make this add on... deal went south. Nintendo introduces N64 that still uses cartridges and Sony decides to make its own device called Playstation.
Saturn Fail: Sega was a successful #2 with the Master System and Genesis. Enter Sony and Sega is immediately #3. Saturn didn't have the AAA franchises like Nintendo and it wasn't as powerful as the the N64 or Playstation.
PS3 Fail: PS2 was the best selling console of all time. PS3 was a good console, but still lost TONS of it's market share to the 360... specifically in the US where the 360 has outsold it by millions. An E3 press conference so bad it went viral with multiple remixes, high release price, laughable online compared to 360. In the end Sony ironed most of it out, but the damage was done.
