Let me be on record saying I would pass on Jeanty and get a RB later due to other holes, but I also want to say Jeanty is BY FAR the best RB in this class and is MORE than worthy of the pick at 12.

In fact, I actually think it will be a moot point because I think someone else takes him before 12.

Everything I've read from draft talkers put him right up there with the best RBs taken in the draft the last decade. One even put him on equal footing with Barkley. The dude is really good.

Jeanty is right there with Zeke, Saquon, and Bijan in terms of perception/projection as an NFL back. Unfortunately for him, his draft position will definitely be hurt by the depth in the draft this year.

I also think teams have figured out that the way to get better is to draft the high value positions while you suck and then draft a QB after you have built a solid foundational team. That has hurt the RB in general.

I wouldn't be mad if the cowboys took Jeanty. I think he'd make us better next year. It's just made extremely complicated by the fact that you could upgrade the position by taking a guy in the 3rd round this year. It would all depend on who is available at 12 and who they don't take, if they take Jeanty. I wouldn't pass on Kelvin Banks or Tet if they were there.

This is a good sign. If this is the guy, they are clearly moving to a run and play action based offense.

heard a draft guy say it was the best running back draft, depth-wise in recent memory.

I can't tell you how many draft boards I've seen where exactly one RB is taken in the first round, which is not exactly the smartest place for him (Jeanty) to go…almost always is Dallas drafting him in these mocks. It's like the draft predictors know what a dumbass Jones is as a GM.

You can bag on Jerry and the cowboys about a lot things over the past decade, but drafting in the 1st round is not one of them.

2015Byron Jones
2016-Zeke
2017Taco Charlton
2018Leighton Vander Esch
2019No pick
2020CeeDee Lamb
2021Micah Parsons
2022Tyler Smith
2023Mazi Smith
2024Tyler Guyton

That's the last decade of first round picks.

If they land Adams, I think Brian S is kinda quietly putting together a really good staff.

Missing on two of those isn't too bad. I am not going to count LVE because it was injury related but when he was on the field he was a wrecking ball.
No matter what!

All of those have been hits at the very least if not superstars. The only two busts...Taco and Mazi, and I don't think Mazi is a bust, he's just not been a first round pick.

5 "we'd definitely make that pick again, he was great" out of 10 is an very high hit rate.

Man, I know we do it every fall for the cowboys and Aggies but I'm ready to get hurt again.

Scotty has put together a darn good staff.

As much as I like Jeanty, if you tell me I can have Ngegka or Berden then this guy in the 2nd, I'm very happy.

Never turn down a difference maker. Zeke was absolutely a beast and steal on his rookie contract. If only that was the whole story.

I think are worst position to fix is DT, but I have absolutely no faith in our scouting department when it comes to the D line. So I'd stay away from D line early but use a lot of middle and late picks on that and sign a lot of UDFA. Go the shotgun, high quantity approach and hopefully we can get a few solid players

Both Ohio State RBs and the Iowa RB will have multiple 1,000 yard seasons in the NFL. Pick one of those after the 1st round.

Yeah I really like what they've done around BS. Still hate how we got here, but the refocus on the o line and getting Eberflus (who's been a HC before) seem like really good hires and areas of focus. Also, it seems like BS has gotten to pick his own guys he's wanted.

I'm still chuckling at the fact that we are already using BS for the coach. That's could be very appropriate if the season goes south.

Wonder if you could get Wilson for a 3rd? Then trade down a bit, collect more picks and grab a RB and just take BPA

Amari Cooper just went for a 3rd and a 6th-7th swap.

If the Wilson stuff is true, how is he not getting a 1st?
Macarthur

Yeah, maybe. I'd offer a 2nd to see if they bite.

Then maybe trade down in the first and replace that pick?

At that point just go all in on offense for a first time offensive-HC and take Jeanty, if he's there. Your offensive skill group would be right there with Philly for best in the league.

Man, Jeanty, Wilson, CD and Ferg would be tasty.

Also, this guy coming from AZ really likes to use multiple TEs. Schoonmaker actually got better as the season went along. I think he and Ferg are going to be a really good tandem next season at TE.

Cowboys aren't going to trade for Wilson. Too expensive for them when they have to re-sign him to a big money deal.

I think it's interesting that some of the same people that are beating the drum for Jeanty at 12 were the same people that loved taking Zeke at 4 but then also denounced his $90 million contract. Like do we not think that will happen again?

In what world does that work out best for the cowboys? Taking a RB in the first is a fools errand and I fully expect the boys do just that
Tksymm7

On one hand I applaud Nico Harrison and Mavs ownership for having some standards and sticking with them, but on the other you just traded your superstar that you drafted and gave the keys to the kingdom. I'll be honest too, I've never been the biggest Luka fan.

All that can be true, but they still got fleeced. The more I think about it, the worse the trade is. This team was in the Finals last season.
Tksymm7

I do think they should've gotten a little more, but the Mavs clearly didn't and don't want to "tank". They want to win now and make a run at this thing, so that means they didn't want a plethora of picks, they wanted a player of a similar caliber in return. Luka is more or less a top 5 player in the league, so you are going to want more or less a top 5 player in the league. That immediately limits who you can do business with by 95% (making a number up but you get my point). So now you're trading with maybe three teams in the league with a player that can be somewhat divisive. Should the Mavs have gotten another first closer to this current year and draft, yes, but I'm not sure what else people are looking for.

Couple of things.

First, in the past, the RB position had been devalued. The positions value is coming back. Running the football is making a comeback in the league.

Second, while you can find good running backs everywhere, there is still a place in the game for elite difference makers at the position, see S Barkley.

And lastly, you are equating "all of the first round" as the same thing. They are the same. Zeke was taken top 5. The cowboys pick 12. Also, if you are using that same criteria then you are saying if S Barkley is sitting at pick 32 in the first round you just can't take him because you can't take a RB in the first. You see how foolish that sounds?

If the cowboys would've passed on zeke, and instead targeted Henry in the 2nd round, we could've taken Ramsey or tunsil. Imagine how much better shape the cowboys would be in if we drafted and re-signed those guys instead of drafting and re-signing zeke? The first round rb is never worth it when similar (sometimes better) talent can be had in the 2nd round. Especially when you look at the rb position as a one contract position generally.

So S Barkley can't be drafted at 32 but he's a great pick at 33?
