Amazing we hit 10 wins and yet the season felt like we lost 10.

I would not want to see the Texans in the playoffs.

No pun intended, they are enough of a wild card beat anyone.

Texans go first….

I guess if it had been the Steelers then we would have rated a night game

I still think it gets Saturday afternoon regardless. The other AFC wild-card round game would have been Harbaugh-Harbaugh, plus the marquee QBs, so I bet it would have gotten the night slot.

8 playoff appearances, 8 Saturday afternoon games on wild card weekend.

Someone get Vernon Perry on a flight to be honorary defensive captain. Author of the greatest defensive NFL game in NFL history against the Chargers

The other game was Baltimore and whoever the WC would have been to match them. That game would have been the night game regardless.

Like it or not, Houston teams in the playoffs will get the early slots in every sport. The TV people know where the money is or isn't.

No Earl Campbell
No Dan Pastorini
No Kenny Burroughs

Vernon Perry: 4 INTS and a blocked FG in a 17-14 road win.

I used to have the game on VHS that I bought off eBay.

NBC shows the San Diego Chicken about 300 times.
You can briefly see Pastorini smoking a cigarette on the sideline.

Gifford NIelsen had thrown 65 passes as a professional before starting this game.

Houston is 3-0 all-time vs San Diego in the playoffs, also beating the then LA Chargers for the 1960 and 1961 AFL title games.

We're also coming full circle from the mysteriously cancelled 1995 preseason games vs the Chargers when Bud claimed the field wasn't good enough at the Doome and used it as part of his impetus to move the team.

I think it has more to do with the AFC always getting put on Saturday every year. There are plenty of smaller market teams with better time slots every year. Also if we start to be a perennial 1-2 seed every year, then we will start to get respected time slots.

So since the titans claim to also be the oilers does that mean they get credit/flak for the worst playoff collapse in history?

True… either way, they want to claim the oilers now, then they get their history as well. And they get the bad that comes with it.

It would be really great for a houston reporter to go to a post game press conference when the Titans wore the oiler jerseys and ask non stop questions about the continued failure of the franchise and the curse and trap them into confessing they aren't the oilers or ask them if they think it's pathetic that the highlight of their season is junior high razzing of a franchise that has lapped the field with them in the course of 1 season.

They do officially own everything associated with the oilers, the history, the colors, the hall of famers, etc.

You can't really blame the NFL on this one with how Houston performed against playoff teams this year and in prime time games. The NFL gave the team plenty of chances to earn a better game time but Houston didn't earn it. To the average NFL viewer Texans/Chargers is the least intriguing playoff game IMO. The Texans and the Rams are the only home teams that aren't favored this weekend. Houston on the season has a point differential of 0 while playing in the worst division in the NFL and 5 of their 10 wins were in the division. Rams somehow have a negative point differential and still won their division, they're also the only team in the playoffs to score fewer points this season than Houston.

Buffalo +157
Baltimore +157
Pittsburgh +33
Kansas City +59
Chargers + 101
Denver +114
Philadelphia +160
Washington +94
Detroit +222
Minnesota +100
Green Bay +122
Tampa Bay +117
LA Rams -19

Chargers losses this year:
@ Pittsburgh (20-10)
vs KC (17-10)
@ Arizona (17-15)
vs Baltimore (30-23)
@ KC (19-17)
vs TB (40-17)

Texans losses this year:
@ Minnesota (34-7)
@GB (24-22)
@ NY Jets (21-13)
vs Detroit (26-23)
vs Tennessee (32-27)
@ KC (27-19)
vs Baltimore (31-2)

It's hard to get excited about this matchup as a Texans fan, but I'd love to be proven wrong, even if it means going to KC next weekend.

Bill Simmons and Cousin Sal reading the board for their podcast last night, referring to the Saturday afternoon game as the Shaky Schaub Classic.

Also comparing the Patriots winning yesterday and then firing Jerod Mayo today to the Texans beating the Colts two years ago. Running with the joke of breaking news that the Patriots have completed a trade sending the #1 pick in every round of the 2025 draft for the #4 pick along with quarterback "Jack ****".

He was actually in discussions to be the new Sam Houston coach but he's done so well with Darnold that he's decided to stay in the NFL.

Should be in line for a good OC position this offseason.

Agree with this. The Texans and Chargers are easily the two franchises in the post-season with the least amount of national brand recognition and following. No reason to get anything other than the first playoff spot (or Monday).

I don't think the Texans do well this weekend. Experience matters and Harbaugh has a ton of it whereas DeMeco has less. Harbaugh also has a brother who dismantled the Texans a couple of weeks ago, I'm sure he'll get some tips.

I'm not so sure that his brother coaching a team in the playoffs in the same conference is gonna be giving Harbaugh any tips.

Digressing a bit here, but I was out of pocket yesterday and didn't get to follow during or after the game.

As much as the collapse against the Bills belongs to the Titans history, I wish it were that easy to purge from my own mind...I was only an 8th grader when it happened, but I'll be damned if it doesn't still sit in the back of my mind.

I'm convinced that the Oilers are still in Houston if just 1 of the 3 playoff losses from the '92-'94 seasons don't happen; they were all completely gut wrenching and demoralized the city/fanbase to the point that nobody cared enough to jump into the middle of Adams' BS and Bob Lanier's indifference.

You had the game in Denver won during the '92 season before letting Elways slip out of a sure 4th down sack and eventual loss.

You had ****ing Frank Reich in a game with no Jim Kelley and you're blowing them out at halftime...oof

The run ends in fantastic fashion as you have the best team of a great era where you win 11 games (I want to say that they were 1-4 before reeling off 11-straight) in a row, get the 2nd seed in the AFC only to lose at home to a retirement show of Joe Montana and Marcus Allen.

This allows Adams to dismantle the team under the cover of fan apathy, the turf BS in the preseason of '95, just a total ****show.

Honestly, if not for Fertitta owning the Rockets, it's the same sort of deal that an owner could've pulled with the Rockets after the continued gut punches of the Rockets vs. Warriors run. The fanbase is just now starting to come back around after being completely demoralized and then the Harden deal and the rebuild that was required.

And then he intercepted a Terry Bradshaw pass early in the game the next week against the Steelers, returning it for a touchdown.

I don't think I've seen anybody in the world pick the Texans Saturday. Let me remind everybody that last year the browns were rolling with the best defense in the nfl and Flacco balling like crazy, and the majority of the country picked them to make a run in the playoffs starting by beating us in Houston. We rolled them 45-14 after struggling some down the stretch of the season.

The chargers have 2 wins over a playoff team: Broncos (x2)
Their other quality win would be over the Bengals.
Record vs playoff: 2-5

The Texans beat Buffalo as their only W vs playoff team win.
Texans were 1-5

In summary neither team has proven they can beat good teams.

3-7 record in the playoffs in the nfl. One year in Houston, he was hurt and missed a playoff game the oilers lost and he lost his only playoff game with the Vikings. But he put up really good stats (like Dan fouts) with little playoff success. Being one of the early successful black qb helped as did his very successful stint in the cfl. And he was acquitted in a case where he was said to have beat up his then wife. In my opinion, the best qb Houston has had. I'm 63 so blanda before my time. But better than pastorini, schaub, watson, or any others from the late 60s on. Stroud may change that in the upcoming years.
