This. He's been the QB for 8 years and hasn't delivered in the playoffs.
100% this. You don't all the sudden become a clutch QB overnight. There is absolutely no reason to pay him at this point for performances like this afternoon.

Matt Stafford might disagree.

Matt Stafford never had the teams in Detroit that Dak has had in Dallas.

I think we can all agree that Dak just ain't an elite QB, despite being paid like one. It's happened too many times now.

I just think the front office is going to have to get comfortable taking chances. Don't be content winning 10-11 games a year and wetting yourself in the playoffs. Go take a swing and try something different. TRY to find the right coach. TRY to find a next tier QB.

Tom Brady lost a Super Bowl against the eagles when his defense didn't force a single punt. For those of you wanting to move on from Dak, who are you getting? Half the leaguebis desperate to land a functional QB.

ooo that's a good take. One I don't consider enough.

Convivence and familiarity are a thing though. I could make way more if I moved back to a big city, but I traded that for a small company and remote work.

I know it's all relative, but how much is enough? 30m a year and 50m a year? I make peanuts compared to anyone in the NFL, but my house is as big as i need it.. at some point, you're good and you're just taking care of your kid's kids.

Dak had this team, with this defense. And they were straight up trash today. If you want to talk about regular season MVPs not showing up in the playoffs, its on the other side of the ball this year.

I fail to see the relevance in your Tom Brady story, but at least half the league knows what htey are after... They realize they don't have what it takes tow in a super bowl and they're searching... We're in purgatory trying to decide if we have it or if we dont... and 100% of the time if you're wondering if your guy is the guy then he isn't the guy.

The Texans ain't wondering tonight if they got the QB... It doesn't take long if you're the guy.

The relevance is sometimes it doesn't matter who the QB is. I think Daks play was responsible for maybe 20% of today's result. So isn't really a smart move to go with Trey Lance next year? Dak has at least shown to be a high end starting QB. There's dozens of guys getting playing time in this league who haven't.
Woods Ag

ah, gotcha. I hold Dak much more responsible, but that's opinion.

I don't want Trey Lance for sure...

Really, I think it's a quesiton on what's a successful season? Is 10+ wins and a playoff appearance better than a possible 7-10 bc you're searching for the right QB.
Tksymm7

Obviously not Lance. He's a back up QB through and through, but go out and do something. Make a trade, try and move up, etc etc. TRY and find a solution to your complete ineptitude in the playoffs for 30 years.

LOL at comparing Brady to Dak in any way. I've been the biggest Dak supporter, and Romo before him. At some point you have to realize he is who he is. You dont extend his contract, and you prepare to move on and find the QB that will get it done. Crippling your payroll to pay Daks new contract is now going to get you to a superbowl.

I don't have Dak hate...

Are you ready to give Dak 50-70m a year over the course of his next contract? Look at the salary cap and realize what that means.

I've watched almost all of Dak's games. I attended his very first game. I love this team only second to the Aggies.

Did you watch KC this year? They won 11 games with no wide receivers, awful tackles, and a quickly aging TE. That team was carried by a great offensive play caller and phenom QB. Do you think Dak is ready to be that guy? Because paying him that contract means that what you got.

They have Patrick Mahomes, Chris Jones, Travis Kelce, and 3 interior offensive linemen that make money. The rest are drafted guys on new deals. Can Dak win with that? He can't even do it with what we have now... We will lose talent to pay him the next contract.
This is the crux of the issue

These 2 teams scared me much more than Green Bay did. But Green Bay has that Shanahan offense and if the QB is performing it's really hard to stop.

He didn't compare Dak to Brady. He pointed out that even the best NFL QB of all time couldn't win with a defense that couldn't get a punt. Dak didn't let Green Bay score 48 points.

That's the real question. A lot of smart people would argue that you should stick with a formula that puts you in the mix year after year. That was Parcells philosophy. That's the Steelers philosophy.

Has there ever been a situation where a team moved on from an all pro QB who wasn't old? Does anyone think the Cowboys are the team to go against the grain in this case?

It would already be a huge deal to fire the HC who has just won 12 games for 3 years straight. That's never happened. And Jerry got tons of criticism for firing Gailey after 2 10 win seasons.

Dak deserves some blame. But so does every other player. Ceedee had some bad drops in the first half, and the defense speaks for itself. All of it can be attributed to coaching. Mccarthy's teams are soft and undisciplined

I'm thinking.. Here's my rebuttal:

McVay and the Rams went to the Super Bowl with Jared Goff, paid him a huge contract and then traded him when McVay realized he wasn't going to be able to win the big game with Jared Goff. He basically made the decision that if I have to pay a QB, I might as well go get the old dude that has the talent to execute rather than pay this guy who I know can't do it.

The Eagles and Carson Wentz. He was having an MVP season before getting hurt and Foles won that Super Bowl but that was a very talented team. They paid Wentz despite reports that he wasn't great in the locker room and it was pretty quickly apparent he wasn't the dude. They cut him, right? They were seen at the worst roster in football and that GM turned them into a Super Bowl team in 2-3 years?

The Eagles got a 2nd for Wentz. Then they got very lucky getting Jalen in the 2nd round. The draft is such a crap shoot. I'd actually be fine with a lopsided Dak trade. It just seems unlikely to me. The Jones family is still tramatized by the years between Aikman and Romo.
