No sympathy. The Detriot offense admits that they heard the official only announce 70 as eligible and then threw the pass to 68 anyway. What did they think would happen?

I agree that mistakes were made, but this one wasn't all on the refs. #70 is the one who ran on the field and raised his hand at the ref to declare himself (just like the above video said they are taught). If #58 was also supposed to be eligible, he certainly wasn't making any hand gestures towards the ref.

I think the whole controversy would have been avoided if they had simply called "illegal formation" instead of "illegal touching". #70 did report and once he was covered up after the shift, it was a foul. As the ref said in the post game interview, there were 2 fouls on the play. If they would have simply announced the illegal formation penalty instead, there would be no controversy.

Detroit botched it and the referees caught it (unlike Micah's multiple choke holds).

And let us all not forget, the ONLY reason Detroit had a chance was because the Refs completely botched the "tripping" call.

I couldn't see it clearly in real time, but I've seen some people show video of it after the fact. LOL, Hutchinson was the one that stuck his foot out trying to trip Pollard and they called the penalty on us!?!?! For Real Refs!!!!

The Cowboys... who apparently can't run the ball... ran right down their throat and were set up for a 2nd and about 2 or 3 until that phantom call. The game was OVER if the refs don't make that call.

The Lions weren't screwed out of anything!

And just for fun, here's this again:

NFL issued a video to teams today explaining the check in rule and used the Dallas-Detroit game as an example. Very clear and shows how Detroit screwed the pooch.

This 100% confirms the refs handled the play correctly. But all the talking heads will still choose to ignore the facts.

It made me happy to see Skipper of all people to be part of this for the Lions and to see him go ballistic. Dude's a petulant child.

Any word on Washington "resting" people for the finale?

I personally don't feel like they'd have a chance in hell at beating Dallas anyway, but right now they are currently sitting pretty with the #2 pick in the draft. You gotta think the GM is yelling for them to lose this game.

I heard they're gonna start the same QB we faced on thanksgiving

Sounds like the Rams are benching everyone worthwhile this weekend, so now by far the most likely matchup in the WC round. Which is unfortunate because they're probably the third best team in the NFC right now, playing better than the Lions overall.

Yea facing Stafford/ Kupp/ Nacua and Kyren Williams is not ideal. Going to have to shut their run game down and get after Stafford like last time.

They're starting Sam Howell who is supposedly easy to rattle or get to turn the ball over. I personally like having no big time scary QB in the division, but that might be subject to change if the commanders have the #2 pick.

Should we be afraid if the commanders draft Penix?

Nah they will probably Draft Caleb Williams and be stuck in mediocrity for the next few years. If they, and Chicago (#1 pick) are smart, they both trade down a few picks, get more draft capital, and draft their next stud OL. You can have Peyton manning under center, if he doesn't have time to throw it won't matter

Caleb Williams is going first overall. You just can't pass up on a physical talent like that. I don't see Washington grabbing a QB this year unless it's later in the first or second. They need to improve in a ton of areas, and Williams is the only guy who's truly a top top pick at the QB spot. Maye has all the physical tools, but I think he's still got a decent amount of developing to do; Penix on the other hand is perhaps the most pro ready guy, but his age and double knee surgeries will keep him from being drafted top five or maybe even top ten. Then you have Daniels, Nix etc. who had really brutal starts to their careers but put it all together at the very end, and they feel like guys who could go mid to late first or even second.

Really interesting. Right now if they tank their last game, their likely opponent would be Dallas, a team that beat the dog S* out of them the first time. Why would they not try and secure the #6 seed and play Detroit instead?

In the end... yeah... it will be completely typical that we have to play a QB that can beat you on any given Sunday vs. Jordan Love and the Packers.

Whatever! I suppose if we are who we hope we are, we will beat Washington comfortably in 2 days and have no problem beating any 2 teams at home and getting to the NFC Championship.

Here's my take on the playoffs typically:

Control what you can control and play the next team up. We can only control if we beat Washington or not, so let's worry about that. If we play the Rams so be it. IF it's the Bucs, Saints, whomever, bring them on.

I completely agree........ BUUUUUTTTTTTT....... a lot of us have lived through an almost 30 year drought! I'm usually one of the more optimistic fans during the season. However, I start to pucker a bit as the playoffs approach.

I just want to win and I want the easiest path possible. I'll take the worst team, the team whose QB just went down, all of the above. Just win!
All I do is Nguyen

Hey I hate playoff time too, I've lived through the drought too, but I guess it's the old football coach in me whenever I say that. If we got to the super bowl but had to play the Commanders, panthers, and giants to get there all at home, I would absolutely take it. No matter that the pundits say.

Where's everyone at on Dak's extension (making him the highest paid QB or in the vicinity) given the following scenarios:

Let's preface by saying I have no idea who the cowboys could or might play.

Scenario 1:
- We make or win the Super Bowl (easy)

Scenario 2:
- We win the first round much like we did against Tampa last year
- We play a hard fought game against the 49ers and lose.

Scenario 3:
- We win the first round
- We play and lose a hard fought game against the Eagles.

Scenario 4:
- We win first round
- Get smoked by 49ers or Eagles but not Dak's fault

Scenario 5:
- We win first round
- Dak falls apart against the 49ers/Eagles.

Scenario 6:
- We get spanked in the 1st round. Blowout or close, idc.

Scenario 5 - I am taking an ass whippin by the Eagles much worse than the 49ers at this point.

You have to extend him. He is a top 3 QB this year, if not higher. You simply don't let guys like that walk.

Not extending Dak means going from good to suck. You go from "can we get over the playoff hump?" to "will we ever make the playoffs again?" He has flaws (almost all of them do), but you have to do it. It's more about structuring it as best you can
Woods Ag

I am a hard yes in the first 3 scenarios.
4th Scenario - Yes because we're stuck
5th Scenario - Ugh!!!!!! He can't get us over the hump.
6th Scenario - I'm going to be sick...

Dak and Parsons are staying at all costs and the bottom of the roster will be made up of kids and vagabonds.

Yeah, as for 5 & 6...

I think tons depends on what he game looks like. I mean, let's face it...SF is a better team than Dallas. Period. They have better players and a better coach so if we go there in the NFC championship game and get beat, so be it.

As it relates to Dak, the QB position tends to magnify your weaknesses, esp against teams that are better than you. I can see a scenario where Dak is pressing because he knows he has to make some big plays for them to have a chance. In that scenario, if Dak has some bad throws, tons of folks are going to want to lay the blame soley at his feet and not ackowledge that we would have needed Dak to basically play perfect and out of his mind to beat someone like SF on the road.

I guess we have to let it play out, but Dak has played two top playoff teams the last two weeks and led drives to take the lead late in the 4th in both of those games making some incredible throws. It seems to me those games, while technically not playoff games, are still big games against very good teams. I think the narrative that he doesn't play well in big games is just nonsense.
Woods Ag
How long do you want to ignore this user?

I don't think its nonsense, but I think he may be growing out of it. I'm hopeful anyways.

Agree with you on the QB pressing comments. Completely depends on how the game is going on whether its at his feet or he's just trying to carry the weight of the team on his shoulders.

Likely not gonna happen, but sure would be nice if Dak would take a team friendly deal to allow us to keep Parsons and Lamb while maintaining a competitive roster.

That's why I bring it up. We saw last time he doesn't want a team friendly deal. He wants the monies..

It's not a question of want or don't want him. It's a question of "do you want him at a record setting or near record setting 4/5 year deal?" That's a question if we cant win in the playoffs BECAUSE of him.

I like the team building and salary cap aspect of football. How do you keep your best guys and fill the rest with competent people that can do their job and help the team win under the salary cap. Straight up, I'm keeping CD. Didn't feel that way at the beginning of the year but he's raised his game to a new level. I'll trade Parsons before I don't pay CD.

Isn't there a little bad blood/hurt feelings from the last contract negotiation? I think they're going for all they can get this time.

In 2020 the cowboys used a franchise tag on Dak and then he got hurt. He signed a $160MM contract the following year but surely the injury limited his bargaining power.

Letting Dak walk isn't really an option so I expect the cowboys are going to shell out to keep him.

I would expect an extension that keeps him at his current salary for the next two years and then the last 3 will be at an astronomical figure something like $70m/yr. Crazy to say, but $40m per year is now only tied for 10th in the league with Daniel Jones and Stafford.

So a 5yr extension worth $280 - 290m is my guess. That's a $56-58m per year average which will put him 1st in the NFL. It's team friendly in the fact that it'll allow us some wiggle room to resign Lamb and Parsons.

And then 2 years from now when he's making $70m/year he'll probably still be top5 paid so it would also eliminate the risk of a holdout while still allowing some even further contract maneuvering by adding some ghost years or whatever they call them.

If 5 years is too long then maybe something like a 4yr extension for $220m for an average of $55m matching Burrow's deal with $180m guaranteed or something to that affect.

Thoughts?

There's a reason why a lot of people feel this is the year we better get it done. Daks deal pales in comparison to the next one he's gonna get and Micah / CD are still on their original deals.

Here's hoping!

This is why I have been so disappointed in the 2023 draft class. Overshown was looking like a potential starter before the injury but the others haven't shown that they are pushing for a larger role. We have done really well over the last 5 or 6 years so hopefully 2023 was just a one time anomaly. We need to develop 2-3 starters out of every draft to keep the talent level where we need it as we are certainly not going to be able to re-sign all of our FAs.
