Pretty clear no one else valued Levis that high. We made the same read everyone else did

Cool that Stroud and Richardson are so close in the draft and playing in the same division. Their names will be linked for a good long while.

I don't disagree. Just imagine if I came at 8 am and said "OMG the Texans could believe they got their franchise QB and defensive capitan that DeMeco will lead. It's the best thing anyone externals could have hoped for"

You'd be excited.

I'm starting to think some of you guys would complain if the Texans drafted Jerry Rice and Lawrence Taylor.

The Texans were thinking about drafting those guys? Clown organization. Those guys are like 60… they should be getting young guys and rebuilding. These old over the hill vets don't help and I'm not sure why Caserio can't see this!

When you play on a team with more talent than all but 2 other college programs and can sleepwalk through 90% of your games, no you don't meet the standard.

Hell, even Burrow had a down LSU program for one year and then they immediately fell back when he left.

Ohio St's record would have been identical with McCord at QB.

Seems like an overpay on the picks, but the number of picks we have softens that blow. No 2nd this year and no 3rd next, but enough flexibility to move into a round if needed.

I guess we will see on Stroud. Not going to pretend to understand the cognitive test thing. His game against UGA was one of the best QB performances I saw last year.

Will Anderson is a great get at 3.

Just saw a tweet that the #1 traded for 2024 is the Texans own pick (not the Browns).

So, start winning guys.

Will Anderson at 3 is a great get, not sure I understand the trade up to. 2.5.

Caserio better not bet on his way out, otherwise we are wet at bar at No 32-28 for the next few years

How many current D-linemen in the league would you have been OK with the Texans trading those picks for? Bosa? Garrett? Who else?

I'm not sold on Stroud, but I think he has just as much of a chance to be the best QB in this class than any other player. But now you're just cherry picking from your list. You can give me hypothetical examples and I can reply in kind with counter points that are all hypothetical on why he hit 5 of the 6 things you listed. I can also counter point the LSU example since they lost a ton of talent and coaches. But it's your opinion, so I don't need to change your mind.

My point was, if you want someone, you take him irregardless of the trends from other previous players in the program. If you only look at trends and let that dictate your decisions, you're bound to miss someone good. Is this a case of that? I don't know, but we'll find out relatively soon.

No one is sold on stroud. It's like jumping the heffer on a Friday night… could be fun and also could be a lot more than you hoped for

Just curious

If that test score was not known. What would be your thoughts on Stroud.

About the same for me, I think he has a higher upside than Young and is the best pure passer in the draft. I actually feel more comfortable taking him than Young.

Still iffy on him even without the test score. Dude is certainly capable of some great games but to me never seemed more than adequate. IMO Anderson was the no brainer at 2. QB could have been had without giving up the farm. I still say Hooker will be every bit as good as Stroud will. Except now I hope I'm wrong

I'm really hoping we can get Jonathon Mingo in the 3rd are jump up into the 2nd if another run starts. I think he's one of the steals in this draft.

At least tanking won't be an option for them this season.

Depends on the next run, but Marvin Mims, Cedric Tillman (another steal), Mingo, Xavier Hutchinson, and maybe Kayshon Boutte (crazy to think how much he's fallen) could be available in that 3rd to 4th round range. But some may slide up depending on a run.

Ah forgot about Boutte. Talent is there. And yes I love mingo.

Yup, I would be happy if we could snap Tillman or Mingo, but Boutte or Hutchinson in the 4th would be good too.

Let's be realistic on the trade for Will Anderson. We get him plus pick 105 near the top of round 4. We gave up 12 which would have been Van Ness since he went 13 to GB. Let's see who ArIzona picks at 33 or a player we wanted right after that. Then our pick at 105 goes on our side.

You typically downgrade future picks by 1 round so the 24 picks are like a 2nd and 4th this year. So we traded the equivalent of 2 s year for moving up from 12 to 3. We likely got a more valuable 4 than we gave up.

Also, the whole CJ smoke screen worked so well most people bought it. A few weeks ago, everyone assumed Carolina traded up for CJ since Bryce is a tiny man. Those 2 are clearly better than AR, the colts new project and Levis who is still waiting to be drafted. At one point LeviS topped Mel Kipers draft lol.

Bama has 3 NFL HOF QB's. Ohio St has Mike Tomczak & Brian Hoyer as their best ever. Tech is a poor comparison as they aren't a historically "stacked" program. Still, Mahomes is a great example of the type of college player that does well in the NFL.

By and large QB's from stacked programs wash out in the NFL. They aren't challenged much in college & most were challenged even less in high school. When they suddenly can't out talent opponents and their team can't just show up and win 90% of their games on Sundays. It is too much of a shock for them.

If you want a good NFL QB go draft a guy that has the arm talent, played on a team that took some lumps, led some upsets or played better teams tough, played 25+ games, took some beatings and made his team better.

And Pitt has Marino and Vtech has Vick. Bama having Staar, Stabler and Namath all from over 30 plus years ago doesn't mean a damn thing to right now. That narrative is played the F out.

Hell, Purdue has the most I think. By that theory just draft whoever the hell is coming out from Purdue.

Bama also had Mccaron, Croyle, Jay Barker, Mike Shula and Richard Todd. All of Bamas great NFL QB's had one thing in common, they had great players around them for a few years and great Coaches, it's not rocket science.

And guess who had the biggest influence of Texans drafting CJ, Jerrod Johnson who coached and apparently they're pretty close.

This draft feels to me like Cal wanted a QB and DeMeco wanted "his guy" on defense, and Nick had to make it happen. Let's hope they're right but these are big bets
Cynic
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think Nick got what he wanted. This wasn't forced, the Texans decided to go for a home run and got two top guys. It might not work out but it's not like being conservative and keeping the picks was a sure thing either.

It's a good move from a PR perspective, the Texans are way more interesting going into this season than last.
