In my view, if we can't get Bryce then we're better off trotting Mills out for another season. I just don't see Stroud/Levis as having significantly better potential than Mills.

I think they definitely have better potential than Mills, especially Levis. Not sure they reach it though.

I would try to get Trey Lance for cheapish, who still has some upside, roll with him this season and see if he can handle it. If he can't, draft a QB with our top pick next year.

Get Anderson and build the defense. We're better off having another 2 top ten picks next year.

wow, if the Texans thought Young was the only QB worth taking in the top 3...

then Caserio should be fired after the draft for not deactivating certain players to ensure a week 17 loss

Curious, why do you think Levis has more upside than mills does? Their college stats are very similar:

Mills (excluding the one game he played in 2018 where he had two pass attempts)
Y/G - 266
Y/A - 7.9
Adj Y/A - 7.9
TD/G - 1.38
INT/G - 0.6
Rating - 141.9

Levis
Y/G - 154
Y/A - 8.0
Adj Y/A - 7.7
TD/G - 1.2
INT/G - 0.65
Rating - 145.6

There's more track record of Levis, obviously, given Davis was in the midst of the COVID years in the PAC10. Also arguable that Levis had more talent around him at Penn State/Kentucky than Davis did at Stanford. But all in all, I'm not seeing a stark contrast in Mills v Levis based upon their existing body of work in college.

Levis has a stronger arm, quicker release, and is a much better athlete.

That game was so infuriating, not just because we won and lost the #1 pick, but because Lovie coached the game completely different than every other game the whole season. I didn't mind them attempting to win, they're competitors that want to compete, but to have a completely different coaching mindset of win at all costs in only that one game deserved to get Lovie fired all by itself.

You can't really focus on Levis stays unless you only look at 2021. He had multiple serious injuries in 2022 and should have probably sat out most of the season. If putting up video game stats in college was the measure of NFL success then Ohio St would have the last 6 NFL MVPs.

We don't need video game stats but we need some kind of performance.

Dude's already terrible stats are inflated against terrible competition. He only broke 200 yards against one team with a pulse in the 2021 season.

His average yds a game in 2021 against P5 opponents was 181 yards a game and that's including 372 against Tennessee. Throw out the high and low outliers and you get 168 yards a game. Or 6.7 yards per attempt (with or without outliers).

If you're going to be a top flight QB, you have to at least occasionally perform at that level.

I agree with you. It feels like a Trubisky situation.

Reading this article:

https://www.nfl.com/news/2023-nfl-draft-pro-execs-scouts-coaches-rank-and-evaluate-the-qb-class

I think it's a combination of a few things. First, he's run a Shanahan type system so he's an easier eval and more ready to play. Then the physical tools, and finally the S2 score (which NFL teams seem to weighing heavily).

There's quite a bit of speculation that Indy will take him, so maybe Houston grabs Wilson/Anderson and Indy protects us from ourselves.

Number of visits doesnt necessarily mean anything but that sure looks like Anderson or QB @ 2 and WR in the 1st 2-3 rounds.

Interior offensive line highly possible as well, guard or center. That's what I've been thinking they'll do in the second round.

Out of these players. Who would you draft at 2 this year?

Cam Newton

Khalid Mac

Dereck Carr

These are the ones most similar to the players that will be available at 2 this year. FYI, I got this from NFL articles, not my own thoughts.

That would be the most Texans thing to do if they draft Levis unless they are drafting him to trade him.

I think/hope it's a misdirect. I think we want Will Anderson or Tyree Wilson. I don't doubt that we like Levis, but not at #2. Lots of rumors that Indy will take Levis at #4, so if we can convince them to come up to #2, we can still get one of the two edge guys we really want.

Or we really do like Levis and we're hoping he'd slide far enough we could move up from #12 to get him (like Zierlein's mock draft had). That seems unlikely now with Indy supposedly favoring him.

I'm ready for Thursday.

Added bonus would be getting Indy's #4 & their 2nd rounder

Id really like to see us trade our late 3rd plus a conditional 2024 for Trey Lance and then spend our 2 1st rounders on defense.

Heard John Harris today, and he he doesn't like Levis. Almost a "looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane" attitude toward him. Thinks (hopes) its Anderson or Wilson at 2, then QB at 12. Agreed that Bryce is easily the best QB in the draft.

I don't think anyone knows WTF the Texans are gonna do.

Reading and listening to some draft chatter and some hear it'll be Levis, some hear Tyree Wilson, and some are thinking they'll trade down.

Regardless what the Texans do they're decision will have a pretty big impact on how the rest of the round shakes out and could cause quite a bit of shake ups one way or the other.
Max Power
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Just a few days until the draft and I have no idea what they're going to do at this point. I feel like the S2 test is a huge red flag on Stroud, and that stinks because I had gotten on board with taking him, now I'm not so sure. The PFF guys did a deep dive on edge rushers last week and they were unanimous that Anderson is the best edge rushing prospect, period. I don't think they should take Wilson at 2, Anderson to me is the smartest play they can make after Carolina takes Young. I just think there's too many question marks on the QBs after Young, I don't even know if I like them at 12. Unless there's a good trade opportunity I think they should take Anderson at 2, BPA at 12 and then look at what QBs are there at 33 or wait until the third round.
Snake Jazz

Feels like the Texans are really hoping that somebody comes over the top and makes an offer they can't refuse so they can trade down. If they get stuck at 2, they take either Anderson or Wilson.

Not sure how it will happen, but I strongly suspect the Texans will come out of this draft with either Levis or Hooker. I've accepted it.

I can hear him wheezing his smart ass response now...

'Well how would I know? There's only a couple people that know who they're gonna draft and I'm not on of em. They could go QB with Stroud or Levis or go DL with Anderson or Tyree. Hell they could even draft a punter at #2. I don't know. You'll know when I know.'
