His wife's post. Prayers to his family and for his soul. How awful.

I don't mean this negative at all just trying to get my mind jogged here…. Was he the one that wrote the book about success or whatever that someone on texags left the hilarious review on Amazon?

Also was he fired as team president or did he quit?

Yes to the first question.

Unsure about the second.

He "resigned". Rumor was he didn't like the direction of the team.

Then he was the Dynamo CEO for a cup of coffee.

He was set to join the faculty at Rice and teach a class.

As someone who struggles with mental health it's always tough to hear about anyone succumbing to suicide, especially anyone with a family they're leaving behind. Personal and professional success do not make one immune to depression. Most people suffer in silence, which is when they need to be talking the most.

Initially it was that he was taking a position with Rice, they have since updated it.

I've known 3 people who killed themselves. Two I knew only professionally, the third was one of my best friends as an adult. He's been gone for 13 years. He never got to meet my kids, he never saw his own daughter graduate from high school, there are so many times when I would have given anything to talk to him because he always helped me see the brighter times ahead.

It takes 3 seconds to call someone on the phone or stop them in passing and ask how they're doing. If you see someone you think might be in pain, you gotta let them know you're there for them. It might not help, but the guilt of not checking on them, which i've carried a long time, will eat you up. take that time to try and keep them from making the wrong decision permanently.

Sad news, seems to be a lot more frequent post Covid. One of my friends lost his wife at the end of 2020 when she lost her battle with depression. Took everyone by surprise, as we all thought she was handling it well.

Everyone should take a little time every day to help as many people as they can realize that the world isn't as dark as they think it is.

HA, that is no lie. Can't wait for Tunsil to get into the lineup.

So weird to feel excited about this team's future.

Feeling more and more confident on the 5-7 wins this year. And if Greene gets his **** together, there might be an extra win here and ther as the offense could be actually…good

Yeah, he's like Foster in the slicing running style. But more of an angry version of Foster, cause Foster never liked contact, which Pierce seems to have no issues with.

Watching the defensive units so far I think this year they're still gonna be bad, but going to be able to cause some havoc here and there.

Gauging the personnel and the presason so far, I would say that the positions end up:
Defensive Line - decent to average this year
LBers - bad to "oh look, that guy plays football in the NFL"
DBs - below average to might be close to good

If Mills does hit for us, we can continue to go BPA next year with both 1st round picks and then start filling in more talent on defense.

But watching this game, we have a good scouting department!

I heard on a Dallas sports station today that, after the Tyron Smith injury, the Cowboys should offer a second round pick for Tunsil. Are the Texans even considering trading him?

That may be the case, if I am the Texans, nothing but a 1st…

No, they had chances before the last draft and pretty much said they weren't trading him. Even if they were open, i can't believe they would trade away one of the better LTs in the league for just a second at this point in the season.

Ok, after the game last night you can officially call me cautiously optimistic about the future of this team.

Going back to where I think the different positions could end up being graded out at:
QB - below average to above average
RB - average to maybe might be good
TE - incomplete to maybe we should trade for someone
WR - average to good (interesting to see how good everyone looks when Cooks get into the lineup)
OL - SHOCKINGLY above average to good (if everyone stays healthy, they could be one of the better lines by the end of the year....which is crazy to say, but yeah, I'm gonna say it)
DL - decent to average
LB - still thinking bad to "hey, I play in the NFL, no really"
DBs - below average to might be good (depending on how quickly the rookies mature)

Barring any critical injuries I think we'll be at the top of my win guess and starting to think they are sitting at 7 wins +/- 2 games due to luck

I got to watch some of the game last night and while some of it was fun it's still tough to put myself in the optimistic category. I still have no idea what Mills is going to be this season. I do really like that the o-line and running game will be improved, which gives certainly gives Mills more of an opportunity to show us what he might be. I do think the offense improves overall just because defenses will have to respect Pierce, that fact alone gives the offense a dimension it didn't have last season.

What I'm most interested to see and what I think determines where this team finishes up is the defense. A lot of young guys are going to be getting on the field. I'm hopeful a coach like Smith really gets the most out of them and if Stingley and Pitre both hit...then things get interesting quickly IMO. If we have young guys in the secondary taking away the main weapons for QB's in our division then they could be fun to watch.

My gut feeling looking at the schedule right now is 6-11.
In games 1-6 they can win 2 games.
In games 7-12 they could win 2-3 games.
In game 13-17 they could win a couple.

I think the Vegas line for this season is 4.5, I think the over is very reasonable, though I'm not a gambler.

I will admit to being a Mills apologist, but I can't help but think the hand-wringing by local media regarding Mills is a bit overblown. I've seen some things from Mills in preseason that I think will translate better to the regular season. He hasn't looked like a franchise QB in preseason, but he certainly looks a lot more comfortable running the offense.

I think getting the real OL out there should greatly benefit him. Right now, if he doesn't get rid of the ball in rhythm, the play is basically dead because of pressure.

So far the draft picks have looked worthy. Even Kenyon had a decent game. Not consistent yet but he had some good plays.
IrishAg
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'll reserve judgement on Mills since not only will the oline be better, but Cooks coming back upgrades the entire WR group. On a few throws last night, it looked like Mills expected WRs to be in a different spot, which could be on Mills or could be just that in practice he gets Cooks on a few of those routes who can cover ground better.

Mills needs to get more reps and keep going. He's capable of making all the throws but is inconsistent at times. Has a chance to be a solid pro if he can keep from injury.

All the doom and gloom on the radio is just garbage time filler since the team is relatively boring to talk about and everyone has a take on the QB. I'm not worried. Would be great to be a sneaky surprise team this year but really top 10 pick is optimal.

Only true must win is the Browns game. For obvious reasons.

Agreed on Mills.

Still hoping the Browns implode and we have a top 5-10 pick form them. I could see the Texans having the same or better record going into our matchup in week 13. At that point you have to wonder if they trot out a rusty Watson or just close up shop.
