Wouldn't it have more sense to do that as a part of the Watson trade? I don't understand trying that now, especially if Mills is getting a chance to start for the whole season.

I just read that the Texans are going to explore the Baker Mayfield trade market. That can't be true can it?

Can you share with the class where you read this?

Yes. I was confused as to why they didn't make Cleveland include Mayfield in the first place.

I know nothing about it, but I'm guessing Cleveland was overvaluing Baker at the time of the trade. We probably excluded him to get the best draft package for Watson. Now that nobody is willing to give up anything of value for Baker, maybe we are good giving up a 5th round pick for him. Just my guess.

Wow, I gotta believe the only way we would explore that would be getting him on the cheap, like just keeping him on the last year of his contract for a 7th next year or something like that. Doubt we would give him an extension, but just a 1 year chance to see if he could do something way above and beyond Mills.

As far as why not part of the Watson trade, it's mainly because the Browns over valued Mayfield a lot. I think they thought they could get a 1st or a 2nd rounder for him. This is probably only even thought about because Houston sees that they might get him dirt cheap.

I don't know if we should or not.

I don't think the Texans would be GIVING a pick to get Mayfield. This would have to be like when we dumped Brock with Cleveland for a 2nd round pick. Make them give us their 2nd this year.

Take the 2nd round pick off Brocks head, staple it to Bakers and send him this way

Baker didn't play well with all that talent around him. What could he possibly do in Houston?

As far as the draft goes. I overal liked the picks. However i hate the thought of taking some guy #3 that is has question marks. it wouldn't shock me if Stingley isn't regarded as one of the best corners in the league in a couple years. Green seemed a bit high. But i didn't hate the pick. Metchie was a high risk/high reward pick. If he comes back healthy and doesn't drop passes he is a 1st round talent.

Maybe, but with other options on the table I think they could have leveraged him into the deal. Cleveland desperately needed Watson.

Is this doable anymore? I don't know the specifics, but I seem to recall it was through some loophole that we were essentially able to trade away Brock's contract and the Brown's "bought" our second round pick.

I believe that loophole was closed by the league shortly thereafter.
Texan_Aggie

I think it's still doable. We'd essentially trade a pick (probably 6/7 round) and get Baker and a 2/3 round pick in return.

We could cut Baker and eat the money, then Baker signs wherever.

Don't get it twisted - Baker won't play for the Texans.

IB4....HES NOT ON OUR TEAM ANYMORE!!!

I don't remember a suspension not being appealable. Could there be a history here that Azz chin knew about and moved him for whatever they could get?

I know I am reaching here, but this seems out of character.

https://sports.yahoo.com/arizona-cardinals-wide-receiver-deandre-hopkins-suspended-6-games-for-violating-ped-policy-200436156.html

The Arizona Cardinals will be without DeAndre Hopkins to start the season this fall.

The NFL suspended Hopkins for six games on Monday for violating its performance enhancing drugs policy, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Though the specifics surrounding the PED policy violation aren't known, the suspension is reportedly final without any chance to appeal.

Conditional 7th round pick. I'd rather have them stock my machines with soda.

So we traded someone and things ended amicably? Does not compute, I'm used to things blowing up and getting ugly.

Conditional pick gets better if Lonnie does well. Better than cutting him. Now let's take Baker Mayfield and a browns 2nd round pick for David Johnson. We add another draft pick and both players get cut and become
Free agents.

This isn't true. It was his roommate at the combine. It hasn't stopped me from calling him Doo Doo Hopkins...buts that's definitely not accurate.

somebody has to say it...

the Hopkins trade is aging better than expected.

he was great his first year in Arizona. But last year he was hurt and missed 7 games.

And now he's going to miss 6 games in 2022

And yet still one of worst trades ever

Someone getting hurt does not excise the absolute idiocy of that deal.

False

It was never trading Hop that was bad. It was the absolute dog shlt return they got for him.

This doesn't change the fact that BoB traded him for David Johnson and some lotto ticket draft picks.

Was it the pick they got in return for Hopkins they flipped to get Cooks?

Yeah, it was the 2nd round pick they got for Hopkins.

They traded Hopkins and a 4th in 2020 to Arizona for David Johnsons' contract, a 2nd they used to get Cooks, and a 2021 4th.

Right after that the Vikings traded Diggs (who wasn't as highly though of at the time) for the Bills' 2020 first, fifth and sixth-round picks; 2021 fourth-round pick

The Vikings turned that 1st rounder into Justin Jefferson

the pick they got for Hopkins was used to take Ross Blacklock.

That's right, forgot we had two 2nd rounders that year after the Hopkins trade and the original one went to the Rams for Cooks.

People had strong suspicion that Hopkins wouldn't age well even before the trade. Still doesn't excuse the awful return they got.
