So the Texans went from trying to replicate the Patriots to trying to replicate the 49ers.

Texans with a new GM after April……
Bilbo sticking his neck out here...from the sunglasses emoji, do you think this is a good thing?

I've got mixed feelings about Caserio. I think he handled the Watson mess about as well as it could have been handled, and for the most part I have liked his drafts (even for Stingley and Green, who have been letdowns thus far). He cleaned up the disaster O'Brien/Easterby left behind and did a fantastic job in free agency this year.

But, the coaching hires have been bizarre until the DeMeco hire. Culley and then openly flirting with McCown? While I don't think you purposefully try to lose, it is borderline malpractice that he didn't shut down Cooks, Tunsil and any other valuable player for that last game. Brandin Cooks has been the worst thing he has done as a GM. Dramatically overpayed him, then didn't move him at the trade deadline, but you leave him on the field for the final game of the season so he can ruin the first pick overall, then move him for a ham sandwich that you almost certainly could have gotten before the deadline? And again, if all of our eggs are in the Bryce Young basket, then he needed to do whatever he could to get that pick...some might disagree with me here...it would have been questioned to trade up one spot, but if you needed one guy, it was stupid to sit around and hope he is there at 2.

In all, though, I think the positives outweigh the negatives. I think he is a middle of the pack GM. You can do better. You can also do worse.

Bilbo, anything you can add?

Probably good, if true. I've come to the conclusion that most of the success of the Patriots dynasty is due to the greatness of Tom Brady. Pretty much every coach or GM who has come from New England has had little success, and even the hoodie has looked pretty bad since Brady took his talents to Florida.

49ers have built a very talented roster and have had very well-designed and effective systems on both sides of the ball. I think there is a real good chance that if he had not gotten injured, Mr. Irrelevant might have led them to a title last season. The only dumb thing the Niners have done in recent years was trading up for Trey Lance.

NFL is a league of copycats and retreads.

Chosing to copy the 49ers isn't a bad thing.

Caserio is holding a presser Monday at 1130. I feel like if he was leaving, there's be a statement released before a media event.

This. If there's anything that's been proven it's the the Patriots weren't able to be replicated, though a nice goal in theory, it was too unique IMO for any team to truly be able to replicate.

I think there are teams that make way more sense as a goal to replicate, SF is one of them. SF is successful independent of an elite QB. Trying to replicate a team like KC wouldn't make any sense just on the Mahomes factor alone.

As long as the Texans are replicating the Texans it is a step in the right direction.

It's the GM equivalent of letting the fired head coach still coach in the last game and cost you the #1 pick.
Um, Newsflash, friend, the #2 pick is EXACTLY THE SAME THING as the #1 pick.
to this day that post from Bilbo is still the dumbest thing I've ever read. anywhere. complete and utter incompetency from the Texans staff knowing that is their mentality. PLEASE bring in new leadership from the top down

He may get pissy with me asking, but what has Bilbao done to prove he's really an insider? Most stuff he posts I see from twitter or sports radio. I'm not necessarily doubting him, but ambers basically said what the Texans insiders have in media for a while now

What post are you referencing?

To Texan Aggie, no offense to you but I could care less who you think I am, what I do or what info I provide. I don't lose sleep over it. What bothers me is some of you think I can predict the future with what I say. I just relay the the ups and downs of info I know and it constantly changes.

With that being said, there will be an organizational restructure after the draft. What that entails? It's constantly changing.

**** brick (Easterby) role hasn't been filled. Who will fill it?

Caserio family is unhappy in Houston and the wizard Bill has been behind the scenes pressing Caserio to come back to NE. Caserio is torn but I can say this unequivocally, he isn't as happy as when he took the job. To complicate the matters, DeMeco and Caserio relationship has been tested as we get closer to the draft. Hence, rumors start flying.

There is an energy in the building that hasn't been here since Gary took the job. DeMeco has the players. Caserio responsibilities have slightly changed since DeMeco was hired.

Tommy Boy needs to make sure DeMeco has the support of Caserio. If not, we have been down this road before and the logical result would be to bring in a new GM. Gris has a good feel on the situation as well.

That's the best way I can sum it.

Caserio schedule news conference is his standard news conference before the draft so I wouldn't read too much into it.

I think he's referring to the string of posts you made on January 8th, starting with

You are mad because they won?

followed by

Calm down. They will get who they want

followed by

This butt hurt about one or two is dumb.

followed by the immortal

No I see a fan base that wants to ***** and complain about everything. There is not a difference between 1 and 2. To ask these guys to go out and lose a game after seeing what happened to Hamlin is dumb.

These guys put it on the line every week.

Yes Cal sucks too.

Again the trolls will ***** and complain and others will follow.

At the end of the day, I don't want my team packing it in.

then when I questioned why you thought #1 and #2 were the same thing, you came back with

Be mad.

It's your given right.

Let me know how you support this team outside this thread.

I responded by mentioning that I had season tickets for 9 years, watched every game for 18 seasons, and had my family volunteer at the Food Bank for Huddle Against Hunger

You never responded to that after calling me out.

Then you did some sort of bizarro pivot about the guy who got hurt for the Bills, which had nothing to do with anything we were talking about.

To me and after seeing the medical emergency in the Bills game, I look at this game differently. I appreciate these players more. For that, I am not sorry.

Then "there's no difference between #1 and #2" became a very popular thing to say on thread, which you mysteriously stopped posting on for 21 straight days until the day Demeco got hired.

So that's probably what he was referring to.

I posted back in November, I believe after Thanksgiving, about it's time for DeMeco to come home.

That was the first day DeMeco became a legit and favorite candidate to be the Texans coach. No one else was even discussing DeMeco at that time.

Correct me if I am wrong.

I really don't understand why so many people get upset trying to figure out if Bilbo works for the Texans or not. It doesn't really matter, this is the internet, take everything with a grain of salt and just enjoy that there are people here who actually want to engage in football conversation about the team.

Overall, I just appreciate everyone who contributes with actual football discussion on this thread, even when I might disagree with them.

I dont care if he works there or not. I do care that he spent a few hours on the last day of the regular season mocking other posters and then vanished for a few weeks, popped back up like nothing happened, and even when directly confronted chooses to ignore what is asked of him. We all want the team to do well, but we can all do that within the framework of mutual respect.

I prefer it over here to the Aggie fb board because the interactions and insights are much more thoughtful and positive for the most part. I just don't care to put myself through the perpetual misery that everyone shares over there. The spring game is going on and for a large portion of the posters over there I'm sure the season is already over. Even when things are going bad for the Texans it still feels like people can be objective and laugh about it as well. No one is having a contest to see who's the most miserable. Here it's ok to celebrate small victories, over there nothing is good enough. I would hope this board continues to be the better of the two.

Agree completely, and I just really want to avoid this thread, and any others we create, to devolve to the level a lot of the other threads have become on the main boards. I enjoy the discussions here and even the dissenting opinions, it's plain good conversation.

I agree this board is one of the best Texans related forums. Max, Irish and others offering interesting info and speculation during this period of misinformation. If Nick is departing after the draft I hope Demeco gets the final say on each pick and trade up or down decision since it is obviously his team now.

I will be very happy with the draft if the Texans get Young or Stroud, Achane or Gibbs, a highly rated center and a bunch of defensive players in whatever order they come. If they roll the dice on neither QB I hope they acquire at least 1 more 1 for 2024 draft and get one of the later round QBs.

Not trying to be an ass but on the Monday following the last game of the year my wife had a double mastectomy for breast cancer followed by recovery and then a full reconstruction of both breasts.

I also have two kids so I was pretty much pushed to my limits mentally and physically.

Things are almost back to normal and why the increase in posts.

I'd say after dealing with all that you're allowed to be an ass during an internet debate about professional football. A few years ago my wife had surgery to remove a brain tumor. This was at the height of Covid so I couldn't even be in the hospital while it was going on. Our 4 year has no understanding what's going on. I'm worried about whether the surgery goes well, what if she dies, what if she comes out compromised? I doubt I'd show much restraint if I felt cross about anything while that was going on in our lives. I was on edge all the time, I'm sure you had a similar experience.

Happy to hear it sounds like things are headed in the right direction.
