There's now way they would keep Tua and DeShaun together. You don't pay a guy $19 million as a signing bonus, let him play a few games, and then make him your backup.

Just realized the Texans' season opener is against Jacksonville. I highly recommend taking a late flyer on Trevor Lawrence in your FFL draft for his inevitable 450-yard, 5-touchdown performance coming in 2 weeks.

About an hour later another report "Deshaun wants to play for Miami but would approve a trade to Carolina"

Sounds like nobody really knows anything and this is just a media war driven by Deshaun/Texans camps. Makes no sense to trade him right now given other teams would want contingencies against the draft picks which could significantly decrease due to legal or trading team performance. I'd bet nothing happens until the end of the season and Deshaun is a healthy scratch most sundays.

Probably the best pash rusher this team had.

Omenihu has looked the best this preseason.

Texans save about $1.4M in cap space by trading and pick up a 6th.

So basically we traded McKinney and a 7th for 2 6th round picks and cap savings. Not a bad way to shed cap and get something in return because I think this defense will be bad with or without McKinney/Lawson.

Omenihu will be back to his normal (meaning jag) form in the regular season.

yeah so far Caserio is a good fit. He seems to have taken control of the personnel side of things well. Let's see how the rest of the year shakes out. I like the idea of stacking a lot of draft capital in the later rounds. These are easily swappable for 2-3 round picks when teams lose out on their guy and the draft rolls on.

I appreciate that he has an eye on the future. Let's hope that eye gets a king's ransom for Watson soon.

Why is Brandin Cooks still on the roster? He's a free agent after the 22 season. He's only 28, and stayed healthy last year.

Lawson was a casserio screw up. Got it wrong. But small in the grand scheme of things.

I hate BOB with the heat of 1,000 suns but he would cut guys pretty quickly if they got on his bad side. And Lawson wasn't some huge investment that someone would feel obligated to keep.

Caserio's job is to make the team better, not recognize his mistakes faster. So far, I don't think he's done anything to make this team better in the near or long term. However, I will admit that this is likely a wasted year so there may not be many opportunities to improve the team right now and that is just going to have to wait. But other than pure hope, he hasn't done anything to elevate him beyond "wait and see" just yet.

That is an excellent analysis. I agree, he hasn't done anything that we can look to that would make you feel great about the future, however I do believe he is moving in the right direction. That said, the draft for him next year is huge, what he gets in the Watson trade, and in FA next year, that will be the sign if he was the right hire.

Looking at our roster I think hanging onto him for now makes sense. Regardless of who plays QB his year they need someone reliable and experienced. His cap number ($5.5MM) is also something that other teams aren't likely interested in right now, but if there's a team in contention that needs a WR later it has a better opportunity to bear fruit.

I think the estate sale of BoB regime players has made for a better long term. He has done a good job churning the roster and setting the team up to not have old expensive players on it tied for many years.

Agree that the draft next year will be a big litmus test for Caserio. That said, it's still 2-3 years out from there to judge whether those picks amounted to anything.

Certainly a reasonable opinion and you may be right. But the way I see it is the team is no better set up for the future than it was before he arrived. And it doesn't take the ghost of Vince Lombardi to cut overpaid veterans on a terrible team that's 3 years from competing for anything.

I'm repeating myself but the biggest decision he's had to date was our 3rd round pick and I think he royally botched it. No way Mills can perform well enough on this terrible team to prevent them from drafting a QB next year. Which means, if I'm right, that he wasted his most valuable asset to date.
