Remote Work "Possibility"

I am currently in the interview process with a company that is headquartered in another state.

I have completed three interviews and the company is going to fly me out for a final in-person interview.

The job posting said it was in person. However, in one of my interviews a couple weeks ago, the hiring manager brought up the possibility of working remotely from my current state but said that he would have to discuss that internally. He also mentioned possibly working from their HQ for a set period of time during onboarding and then I could work remote.

I am having a hard time preparing/not knowing where the position will be located. Especially considering salary negotiations may take place at the on-site interview. (I would take significantly less money to not have to relocate).

Should I:
A). Email the recruiter and ask for clarification on where I would be located so that I know that going in.
B). Not bring the topic up until I receive an offer. Potentially leverage the job offer to work remote?

What do you think?

Would you consider the job if in office? If so, I would get the offer first, then, negotiate. If not, I would probably resolve that upfront.

Dude…go crush the interview, set the hook, and then tell them you can only work remote.

No sense in spoiling their feelings about your candidacy before hand. Get them bought in on you being the hire and then let the hiring mgr fight on your behalf.

If they have multiple locations and a HQ, they are professionals. They will have considered cost of living in different areas as well as cost of relocation. They will address it in the interview but will not require an immediate answer. If, for some absurd reason, they make you decide on the spot, walk away.

If they mention salary before addressing location, simply tell them that you need to know where you will be before you can perform a full analysis on any compensation offer.

I mean he's been expecting the job to be in person, so if remote is possible and desired let them come as it may.

whatever you do, don't tell them you will take less money to work remote. Get an offer first, then negotiate the remote vs onsite.

Never tell anyone you would take less money, for any reason

Thanks for all the feedback.

Latest Update
- I went to their HQ and had six (30-minute) interviews. I have now had nine interviews with this company.
- I was asked to move forward to the "final round" which is a case study presentation with two executives. I will need to make two decks to present.
- I was informed that I would need to move there for "at least a year"
- This is a tough opportunity to pass up as it would be a 50% raise.

What would you do?

Age? Single? Wife? Kids?

If young and single, you take the gig and figure out the rest.

move there for "at least a year" means its going to be there permanently more than likely. "At least a year" is a nice way of giving you hope. They don't care about your hopes and dreams after you accept. Expect for this never to be remote if you accept.

with all the RTO mandates that are happening, even if they say you will be remote, I wouldn't trust that it will happen.

I agree with the others. if you are willing and able to move and want the job then do it. but be prepared for it to be permanent in that location.

I hope the salary bump/role/locale is worth it because no way I am sitting through 9 interviews and two case study presentations.

Sorry for my ignorance as my industry isnt a "company guy" industry. Although I work for a world wide publicly traded company.

But what TH are these employees doing that move their revenue to facilitate 9 interviews and sit threw multiple 2- slide deck case study presentations for a new hire?

Maybe I don't get corporate America but sounds awful, and a waste of resources. HR is the worst industry of all time. Ever.

Edit to add: feels like they spend $50k to hire a guy getting a $50k pay bump. Seems like they have a lot of employees that produce minimal revenue per hour bc they are doing back office **** that isn't making the company money. I could be very wrong but every time I read some big corporation job interview situation i read this type of deal and I frankly don't understand it.

Maybe use the cancel button next time instead of post.

Otherwise no one knows what or if you are trying to communicate something.

I read it twice thinking I had missed something you had accidentally added to the original post.

I know how the site works…I posted and then thought better of it so had to remove it bc there isn't a delete option that I'm aware of
