If he tries to stand with the Iranian civilians, the Left would paint him as sympathizing with Trump.

A good point that doesn't get talked about enough.

The Democrats have let their Trump hatred control them to such crazy lengths, that they can't even acknowledge basic human decency if that means being on the same side as Trump. They literally have to oppose him on everything. If Trump came out and said he loved puppies, they would have to oppose puppies.

There was a time in this country post-WWII where both sides could agree on basic human rights - even if we didn't agree on whether to take military action.

If 9/11 happened in today's America, I think an alarming number of politicians wouldn't even be willing to denounce The Taliban or al-Qaeda - much less support going after them.

Our sellout legacy media brainwashing.

Who I will add spent more time on algae in a pool than the mowing down of 50,000 Iranians or even the genocide of 50,000 Chrisitians in North Africa by islam.

If so behind closed doors he has a different opinion. Can't let the infidels know about the internal fight.

I'm not sure I would call it a non-answer - he's clearly a non-interventionist. Basically it sounds like he believes freedom cannot be given, it must be earned. I've seen conservatives on this forum say the very same thing.

Now he may be a hypocrite as well and believe we should intervene elsewhere, I don't know. If he is it wouldn't surprise me. Regardless, I'd still never vote for him if given the chance.

Today's America was unfortunately shaped by 9/11. It almost seemed to be the catalyst to bringing in a president with the name Barack Hussein Obama into the White House and the 3rd world into the country.

He simply could not condemn the regime. That was the ask. It wasn't to launch a ground invasion.

He simply could not bring himself to condemn the regime and that is very telling.

I know someone who is a native Iranian that moved to the US in the 70's and became a US citizen, but still has family and friends back in Iran.

He's also a liberal Democrat.

He contradicts himself constantly. He hated the regime, but hated that Trump first promised the Iranians to take it out, and then didn't. But then when Trump did, he wasn't happy about it either, because he's become so brainwashed by the dems and libs here that everything Trump does is bad, even if it's something he wants done. So he finds fault with the how, or the when, or the why.

It's crazy to watch.

You can condemn a person or organization and still not support toppling their associated government by force.

I think the kid should have asked a follow up question: "We can agree to disagree on intervening, but will you publicly condemn the actions of the current Iran regime?"

As was pointed out earlier, El-Sayed is a Sunni, so privately he opposes Shia rule in Iran. But he isn't stupid and won't say anything controversial in public.

I guess I mean he used a lot of words, danced around the topic, and never actually answered the question. Straight out of the democrats playbook.

My answer had I been the other guy on stage would have been this. First of all I am sorry for the horrors your family and countless other families have endured because of that man. I am happy that he is dead and burning in hell. My only wish is that we had another president years ago with big enough balls to have done what needed to be done. Then I would have looked at el-sayed and said that's how you amswer the question.

What's so controversial about El-Coward condemning Iran slaughtering her own citizens?

It's not about feelings. It's about having a backbone to speak the truth. More commie appeasement doesn't get you anywhere. At the very least, it's important to let Iranians know that American leaders do not support their current government.
