Hollywood is more about culture shaping than entertainment. It's been this way for going on 20 years now.

I'm more rankled by the lack of creativity. Somewhere someone thought it was still edgy to cast her in this in what has been a guy's part. (If the rumor is true.)

Even Reddit thinks this is a horrible move.

What a bad idea.

The only thing that can save this movie now is an over_ed thread saying it will fail at the box office.

Remember, evil can only destroy. It can not create. I recently saw a great interview with the Cambridge Literary professor Malcolm Guite where he described the postmodern trend of "deconstructing" everything and it is done to the point where all original meaning is stripped from the story. I'll add the link to that interview later but I highly recommend it. Guite is a modern day bard, one of the best story tellers you will ever hear.

Well, Jesus was a guy.

What is bothering to me is that those who are making the "Jesus is a lion, so why cant it be voice by a female" argument are missing two things:

First, Jesus is referred to as the Lion of Judah in the bible, so Lewis's portrayal has biblical basis.

And second, Lewis's series is set in Narnia, a non-earlh location where animals speak. In other words, the whole series is allegory. Now, one could argue that once you have entered the realm of allegory, what's one more change? But, this is C. S. Lewis's allegory. NOT Greta Gerwig's. If Gerwig want to tell a story with a female Jesus, she should make up her own story rather than twisting Lewis's.

I loved the early films. I won't watch this one.

And as amazing an actress as Meryl is- and she's second to none- this isn't the same as taking liberties like in the Odyssey; this is something else.

I wouldn't say malevolent, but definitely just wrong.

This becomes the White Witch in Narnia... I just can't. Also effs with the timeline of the Pevensies kids as they interact with Digory and Polly in The Last Battle. Math now puts them like 80's or 90's kids instead of WWII.

Yes. They know Aslan is analogous to Christ. That's the whole point. Their objective is to destroy a Western classic by subverting its Christian foundation. Turning the character meant to represent Christ into a female is one of the best ways to do that.

I've loved it. I read the forward where Guite recommends reading it out loud as if you were telling the tale. I felt weird doing it but I was amazed at how much more the story came to life. I'm really looking forward to the next one, already have it pre-ordered. I hope you enjoy it as much as did. It really is a beautiful book.

Yes. I also order Paul's book based on a true story which I'm a third of the way through and has been quite insightful. A really good read for anyone who wants to understand why the struggles of university / high school kids are what they are. Hopefully to help equip you to discuss in positive ways to bring people hope and purpose that they are missing.
