Aslan is meant to be Christ in the world of Narnia. So having him be voiced by a female makes no sense unless you're just trying to tear down another classic.Look Streep is a great actress but this is stupid casting and confirms I don’t wanna watch Gerwig’s Narnia projects. Just strikes me as someone who doesn’t care about the source material and is doing whatever she wants with the stories https://t.co/fM0bAKOWni

You still think in terms of churches and arguments. That is why you fail. The churches can be left standing. What must be spoiled is the literature that taught the young to love the Enemy before they could define Him.
Narnia is one of the more irritating of… https://t.co/OWTiQbCOsr pic.twitter.com/RJtTmserjy
Remember, evil can only destroy. It can not create. I recently saw a great interview with the Cambridge Literary professor Malcolm Guite where he described the postmodern trend of "deconstructing" everything and it is done to the point where all original meaning is stripped from the story. I'll add the link to that interview later but I highly recommend it. Guite is a modern day bard, one of the best story tellers you will ever hear.
Edit to add interview at part of conversion where literary postmodernism is discussed:

I'm more rankled by the lack of creativity. Somewhere someone thought it was still edgy to cast her in this in what has been a guy's part. (If the rumor is true.)

Anytime they replace a male character with a female there is always an agenda behind it.

I'm still pissed from when they made Jesus a Lion.

It also makes no sense because Aslan is a freaking LION, not a lioness.

They also moved the timeline from early-1900s to 1950s and claimed it an ode to Bowie.
Screen grabs are out there. Jadis costume looks like an 80s techno robot. What a bummer.

I can't wait for the AI rips with them replacing Aslan's voice with Miranda Priestly's lines from The Devil Wears Prada. Can you imagine a lion yawning and saying
"Is there a reason my coffee isn't here? Has she died or something?"

Hollywood is more about culture shaping than entertainment. It's been this way for going on 20 years now.

Looks like she's holding a Harry Potter wand. Is that the aesthetic they are trying to do here?
When I hear ode to Bowie I hear Labyrinth with Harry Potter influence.

I grew up on this ***** The books, PBS and BBC editions.
She doesn't have powers on Earth. It's a crux of the book. Grr. Visually, ahh, timeline, ahhhh, canon, ahhhhh.

I've loved it. I read the forward where Guite recommends reading it out loud as if you were telling the tale. I felt weird doing it but I was amazed at how much more the story came to life. I'm really looking forward to the next one, already have it pre-ordered. I hope you enjoy it as much as did. It really is a beautiful book.
