Josh Howerton is preparing to run for office. Big publicity push the last 6 months.

I don't see him running for office. He's making more of an impact doing what he's doing. Nothing he has said makes me believe he's preparing to run for office.

It's not what he said. It's the massive media blitz. Shawn Ryan and other podcasts. Big ramp up in social media.

His podcast videos started going viral on their own merit. A deep thinking pastor speaking in long form conversation and coming across as 100% authentic and genuine? His bread and butter is making connections and highlighting cool cross references in the bible that most have never heard about. Things a lot of preachers and scholars wouldn't ever notice.

There was a market void for that. Sean Ryan is going to have a lot of people on who start to blow up on social media, especially if they offer good commentary and insight on religion, politics, war etc.

I have followed the guy pretty closely and do not think this is all manufactured to pave the way to run for office but I could be wrong. I would LOVE for more people like him to run for office though, our country desperately needs that.

No one is "forcing Christianity," or largely campaigning for it to happen. The importance of the option to choose for yourself what to follow is actually one of the core tenets of Christianity itself. And the founding fathers were trying to get away from a state religion. They came from a time and society where moral duty (largely entwined with your stated religious beliefs) was very important.

That being said, even people like Richard Dawkins have admitted they want to live in a society that holds Christian values and principles, because the alternative is not good (which has been demonstrated numerous times throughout history). In his case, the point was that the alternative is Muslims take over, but even setting that aside, you can even see the results of an increasingly secularized society here, with the youngest generations having possibly the bleakest outlook on life on record, despite the best quality-of-life the world has ever seen. "Forced secularization" is also ideological and problematic.

You want us on that wall, haha.

Yeah, nobody is forcing the Ten Commandments in public schools. That would be crazy.

My parents grew up with 10 commandments in the class rooms and even class prayers, prayers before football games etc.

Give me more of that please....extra bonus that it makes the lunatic left screech and weep and gnash teeth.

Pretty sure our schools functioned MUCH better back then. Kids now are extremely dumb by comparison.

IT IS NOT ESTABLISHING A RELIGION. And there is no such thing as "separation of church and state"...that's liberal gibberish.

THIS. You could not pick a worse video to make any sort of anti-immigrant case. Although I'd bet most are 1st and 2nd gen. There were not many Indians here at all 3+ generations ago.

I believe there is a problem...we should be taking people from any country in slowly, and there should be a solid vetting process, I don't care what color you are or where you are from (no more Muslims though, not sorry). We should never be taking in huge blocks of foreigners with a completely different culture that can quickly take over and transform communities.

But these kids are actually making the opposite case those posting the video are trying to make. These are fully assimilated kids who are likely sitting in a fraternity or student org block and are acting EXACTLY how the Sigma Nu's a few section over are acting. THIS IS WHAT WE SHOULD WANT. Assimilation.

There was never a 'taking in huge blocks of foreigners". It's always been one application at a time.

The reason you are seeing a lot of Indians (and Chinese) is because of the high-tech jobs that is what's driving a big part of US and World economy. If you go to A&M Engineering Career Fair, you'll see that majority of the Graduate Student population are Indians or Chinese... and when they graduate, they are getting jobs here in the US and are great citizens by all means. I do get the sense that Indians are more passionate about sports (think cricket back home for them) and that's why it is no surprise to see these guys being passionate about college football.

That is forcing Christianity upon people, whether we have separation of church or state, unless you want other religions to share their tenets openly in schools.

And having the Ten Commandments posted in a classroom are not the reason for living in a better time. Good ole day syndrom can easily cause you to ignore the problems of their times.

Look at that photo and think about it a little longer. Saying they're all 2nd and 3rd generation makes it worse; they are clearly not integrated. The picture says it all, there are no white guys (nor black for that matter) in that group. They prefer their ingroup and don't hang out with other ethnicities. Sure looks likes they're replacing, not integrating.

And to your last point, when these intelligent, hard working Americans climb the ladder and wind up in a position to hire, who do you think they'll prefer? The data is very clear on this, Indians have a massive in-group bias when it comes to hiring. They're going to H1B another 20 of their own, even if they've never been to their homeland.

Do you see large groups of white people together and say...Man, those guys clearly aren't integrated?

In a matter of a few short years they have transformed entire areas of some of our major cities. I am not "anti-Indian", although the unassimilated ones do not impress me at all. But you cannot tell me that we have taken them in at comparable rates to other immigrant groups, even the chinese. No effing way. Their population in Texas has DOUBLED since 2010. DOUBLED.

They talk like them, have the same interests, behave the same way, etc. heir families have been here for 25-50 years in most cases. A minority are actively practicing Hindus or Muslims, and statistically there are nearly as many practicing Catholics among them. A majority are irreligious/indifferent just like a majority of American kids that age of all races. The majority of them have never even visited India or Asia.

Those kids are Americans, and more importantly they are smart Americans who will be highly productive citizens and will commit near zero violent crimes in their lives. You can make the point about limiting future immigration without using the ideal type of immigrant story as your example.

The same folks bagging on Harvard for discriminating against Asians are the same folks complaining about all the brown American citizens in that photo that probably outcompeted them to get in.

Having Ten Commandments posted in a class room or a court room isn't "forcing Christianity". Well, you should really be calling it "forcing Judaism" but whatevs. Just like having "God" in the pledge of Allegiance isn't "forcing religion".

My only point was that they kicked out asses by just about every education metric, and were taught how to actually THINK, to a much greater degree than today;s dumbed down kids. Ten commendments in classroom and occasional prayers did not hurt anything.

1. You have no metric to determine that.
2. When you exclude one religious text and pick the one that should be in the room, it's forcing it.

Now, most kids don't really care and we use it as a great conversation tool but it's silly to think that posting them is going to do anything substantial.

In the past, the Italians and Irish were certainly treated and viewed 100x worse than indians are right now. Met with infinitely more hostility and discrimination.

That being said, our church took in a bunch of Ukrainians during the beginning of the conflict and they seem to assimilate very well naturally. They cede to our culture for sure, and are grateful to be here. I am guessing their prevailing culture must be more similar to ours than the culture of India...which almost could not be more diferent. They are also Christian, which helps. Christians from Europe, Nigeria, India, anywhere really...assimilate the absolute best.

Really the only whites that I do not see assimilating are the godless white liberal freaks. The absolute worst demographic in the US, imho.

The other thread devolved into people claiming people of Indian descent can't be Americans based on the term's being coined at a time when the US population was 90% white compared to under 60% now and then multiple variations of gatekeeping the racial purity of the word "American". It wasn't a reasoned argument on the legitimacy of more regulated immigration policy, it was people piling on about what they don't like about certain types of other people.

This is an abject lie, and the fact that you ended up admitting that the term "American" has two senses of the word after every one of your very bad objections were clearly answered should make you ashamed to post this.

We don't notice large groups of white immigrants because most just see white people. So my point stands. These kids were just assumed to be immigrants and therefore the poster decided they aren't assimilating because they are hanging out together. I bet Ukrainians tend to work and hang out with other Ukrainians because they are of similar heritage, while also assimilating.

It's like the people who had the Italian and Irish flags at the 9/11 memorials last week. They are Americans, who most likely have never been to Ireland or Italy, who choose to identify as Italian and American or some sort of hybrid. They've assimilated but they still have holdovers from "the old country". But if you are brown, that old flag tends to piss people off.

These kids hanging out in a group doesn't have anything to do with assimilation or not.

One of the founding principles of America is freedom of religion. Not forced Christianity. That's why many people left Europe to come to America many of them believed in a form of Christianity that was heretical to society at large.

Today many people twist Christianity into something that is racist. It's called white Christian nationalism. We don't need any more of that. We're all full. We got plenty.
The Fed was disallowed from establishing a Federal religion, but the original states were all Christian, most with State churches and religious tests for office holders.

People who established America didn't want a religious free for all: a dominant portion of them wanted the freedom to form and secure THEIR Christian society.

You're trying to argue a population level question with facts about a handful of individuals. That's anecdotal evidence, not evidence about the trend.

The photo isn't itself the evidence of the trend, it is being used as a symbol of that trend. If you want to say, hey, that's unfair to these kids - cool. Ok. I agree.

But that still leaves the point, that there has been a massive demographic shift in this state. Arguing about the immigration status of the particular kids in the photo doesn't address whether a broader claim is true. This kind of argument is a category error.

In my Sunday School class, we NEVER discuss politics because there are a few Democrats and it would go off the rail quickly. Likewise, I do not need to discuss my religion in a secular, political venue. I just don't want mass migrations of heathens who will not assimilate in America and that sentiment is correct even without religious validation.

Replied to you because the problem with this whole thing is people getting the vapors over some kids in a photo (the particular) when the issue is at the demographic level (universal).

You could be 100% wrong about the photo (all immigrants who hate America and have no desire to assimilate) or 100% right (5th gen kids who love the USA and football) and it. doesn't. matter.

Healthy things grow. Growth doesn't always indicate health (see cancers and weeds), but God multiplies the talents of faithful/successful practitioner of the great commission.

All this talk of large groups of people with similar interests sitting together at football games makes me wonder why there is no one complaining about group ticket pull at Texas A&M.

Shhhhhh,...

Replied to you because the problem with this whole thing is people getting the vapors over some kids in a photo (the particular) when the issue is at the demographic level (universal).

You could be 100% wrong about the photo (all immigrants who hate America and have no desire to assimilate) or 100% right (5th gen kids who love the USA and football) and it. doesn't. matter.

I think the picture shows that they have assimilated.

Also, what does assimilation actually mean?

Even when you have been told that this argument is pointless, you insist on having it? OK, sure, for the sake of discussion lets say that somehow going to a football game is sufficient evidence for complete and total assimilation.

The demographics of the state have collapsed to where less than 25% of high schoolers are white. This is a threefold reduction in the past 50 years. This is the problem Bo French was referring to.

OMG ... people say that all the time!

1. I was talking about the poster that I replied to.

2. If you look at one group and say they aren't integrated because they are homogeneous, do you do the same with all groups or is it just one?

Impossible to know...we never see large groups of white immigrant groups here. Where are they? Can you point me in the right direction?

We don't notice large groups of white immigrants because most just see white people.

WRONG WRONG WRONG...there are NO large groups of white immigrants or first gen white kids lol. Although we should be taking in as many as we can from South Africa imo...they would assimilate much better/faster/naturally culturally that Haitians, Somolians, Indians, Pakis etc.

So what percentage of the kids in that picture are immigrants? Citizens?

How many of the white kids in that picture are immigrants? Citizens?

In the UT video thay are probably all 1st and 2nd gen. The Indian imigrants are likely completely oblivious that there is a football game going on.

Again, I am proud of how well those students seem to have assimilated. You could take any chunk of white kids from that stadium, and there are probably very very few (maybe zero) first generation Americans.

I am just arguing your notion that there are white immgrants or first gen citizens that we envcounter on a routine basis. They are sprinkled few and far between. TONS of Indian and other immigrants and first gens in my suburb of houston though.

That's why I send my kids to private school. I'm not dealing with public bs.

According to liberals, and the vast majority of every other racial group, literally only whites are not allowed to be concerned about being replaced or swallowed up or wiped out. It's noble for every other color of person to have these concerns though.

You don't want INFINITY chinese/indians/somolians/albanians...you must be a hyper-racist.

Yawn.

There is some truth to this. Originally, some of the first inhabitants wanted to lord over their fellow men using the same kinds of religious cudgels they had escaped from. But THEY wanted to be the ones wielding the cudgels.

A story as old as time. No freedom. Just exchange of the levers of power and tyranny from one group to another.

However America did progress to the idea that there would be freedom of religion, and there would not be a national creed. And many of the founders, by today's standards, were irreligious. See Thomas Jefferson.

Again? You have not said that you are proud of how well they've assimilated on this thread, unless I just missed it.

I never made the argument about white immigrants. I simply stated that a group of brown-skinned people haning out together is not evidence that they have resisted assimilation.

I disagree, they're all likely second and third gen. When I was in college, some 25 years ago, there were already large Asian and Indian frats.
