Piddington, population 350, is up in arms over a proposal to house 1,250 asylum seekers at a former military site.


This summer, the U.K. government decreed that Piddington's 350 inhabitants are set to get new neighbors: up to 1,250 male immigrants housed in a nearby disused military site, where they will live while their claims for asylum are processed. They will outnumber residents by nearly 4-to-1.
The plan has caused outrage and panic here, turning this bucolic corner of England into a test case for an English middle-class revolt over growing concerns about how the country manages tens of thousands of asylum seekers crossing its borders.

And let the games begin. What could go wrong with a young male from an uncivilized country with a view of the world 180 degrees different from the small population? If I had a wife or daughter, I would send them someplace else for safety reasons.

Asylum from what. Asylum from the hell hole they themselves have created? This comparison is analogous to malignant cells proliferating into healthy tissue regions in an attempt to evade their own pathological state.

These hypocritical people all voted for the exact folks pushing the unfettered immigration policies.

This is straight up case of NIMBY - cool everywhere else just not here.

The town actually voted today to separate from the UK over the issue - 90%+ voted leave.

Exactly.

They voted for this over and over again. Same thing Ceuta.

I have the almost no sympathy for.

As someone who used to live and serve in this part of the UK, I can tell you that like here in the US, city voters (mostly in and around London), overwhelm the votes of rural voters. I can guaran-damn-tee you that the good folks in Bicester, Banbury, and surrounding villages did not vote for this.
