When I went to Europe for the first time in 1999, you could see a slight difference in living standards, but you could say, "they have smaller cars and homes, but the parks and trains are wonderful."

I'm all for getting a better deal with Canada, but Trump has gone about it in a way that seems highly unlikely to achieve the desired result. Of course he didn't meet with Trump. Carney was using Trump as his foil. It would have been stupid to do that. What needed to happen was for Trump to just keep quiet for a little while, then the Liberals would have been out, and the Conservatives, who depend on Western Canada for support, would have been in.

It was a classic own goal by Trump. Carney's only card is playing the Trump card, and Donald just keeps making that a winning play. Thanks to term limits, Trump won't be around long enough for the chickens to come home to roost, but then again, Trump never likes playing the long game.

Enlightening when even Biden's guy was advising him to meet with Trump. I did not know this. I was actually in the camp that thought Trump owned goal that election back then, but it looks like Pollywoo **** the bed first.

Below the surface US and Canada are in disagreement with rooting out Chinese influence in the hemisphere, Canada paying it's share to NATO, securing the US/Canada border, etc. There is way more to this spat than trade.
