Yes you can't afford housing, yes you can't afford gas, yes we're still importing foreigners to keep your wages down, yes we're still spending the value of your dollar away like a teenage girl with daddy's credit card, yes we're still launching wars with no real plan despite running on peace, but have you checked out the GDP??

Shutup and vote Republican like a good boy.

Now tell us in detail the Democrat plans to fix that. Raise taxes? Wide open borders?

*crickets*

Never claimed Democrats are the answer either. Its almost like its possible to criticize one political party without endorsing the other or something. "B-but muh Democrats" is not an acceptable excuse for Republicans' behavior.

Point to remember, democrats only model for affordability is subsidizing, which always ends up doing the exact opposite. They are and never will be yhe party of affordability.

Correct, but it is also purposeful. By getting more people subsidized, they create a permanent underclass enslaved to them to keep those subsidies. As an example: see the broohaha when Republicans let the "temporary" Covid subsidies fade. Lots of "conservatives" were all up in arms about it and want them back. How? Vote Dem.

$2 a gallon. $3 a gallon. $4 a gallon. Makes no difference for folks voting Republican. Just a wedge issue for the LOLPoors.

Guys/gals/whatever Talarico considers your gender, the question in my mind is just what is the state of the 'affordability' discussion? There are obviously a lot of opinions. I just think the economy is doing great and that inflation is much lower than it once was, despite energy (gas) being higher than I'd like to see.

I just don't think this is right;

Seems like a great way to alienate an increasing number of Americans struggling due to the cost of living that the Republicans pretend not to notice.

It's a gaslight (very punny) designed to try and help the Dems in the midterms.

Evidence: When you ask if people have changed their behavior, put their kids up for adoption, decreased their N/A beer intake due to high gas prices, their response is that you don't care about the lowly poor people who are BENEATH you.

Have a heart man!

Consumer spending just hit its first decline in 9 months. It's not the end all be all, but its noteworthy.

We're a nation, not an economic zone. What good is a GDP when the average American gets beat down by incompetent governance? I don't believe the economy is doing great at all despite what cooked up numbers the govt releases.

"The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command." G.O.

The Soviets could have only hoped to gaslight as well as the uniparty is doing.

"Pull yourself up by your bootstraps, you loser." A government that loves its people does not ridicule them.

Underlying analysis shows that was due in part to online retailers bringing sales forward with their prime days, christmas in july, etc. Also previous months spending driven by OBBB tax refunds. Only a modest pullback in retail energy.

Hardly evidence of a struggle.

Retail sales falling 0.6 percent in July amid 'high' gas prices I don't think is a real bell weather (caution, very fake news source).

I just see inflationary spending doing it's thing.

No one in their right mind would think 'hey, we need Democrats to reign in this spending/inflation, before Republicans make it a real problem.' Open borders/medicare for all is not a panacea to discretionary nor non-discretionary spending going through the roof, let alone the cost of servicing the debt.

Have any democrats even talked about favoring cutting spending?

So you want the government to bail you out versus grabbing the bootstraps. Got it.

And you think a uniparty is the problem?

Biden's strategy of telling people how great things are didn't work.

Trump's strategy of telling people how great things are isn't going to work either.

People don't care about macroeconomic indicators and statistics.

The cost of food is up. The cost of gas is up. The cost of health insurance is up. The cost of rent is up.

etc.,etc, etc..

The cost of everything that hits the wallet and matters to voters is up.

Trump's tariffs and inability to close out the war with Iran and get energy costs down are going to be the Republican's downfall this November.

Who said anything about a bail out? I'd be happy with them simply not overspending on wars, foreign aid, and entitlements, or maybe not intentionally reducing the value of the dollar. Radical ****ing ideas, I know.

Also, you miss my point. My point is that a government that cares about the people don't gaslight them into thinking it's the individual's fault or ridicule them. The maybe got a willing army of paid propagandists and useful idiots to carry the water. Then you have your Internet tough guys that are thriving and don't know what people are talking about. It's just so weird how people will defend the system that is ****ing them.

I do fine - for now. But there are real Americans that are suffering. It's not virtue to mock them or pull the wool over their eyes.

ETA: the United States Federal government has abandoned Americans. And if you question it, you are weak or don't support our "allies".

Mocking who? Who are these real Americans that are suffering? Its a simple question I have asked several times now.

I am curious as to how the US federal government has failed Americans. If anything, its the state and local governments on down to the school boards who are failing the people the most. You are not fixing things from the top down and thats part of the problem.

And don't conflate the conflict in Iran into this thread. It can be easily debated that the spend there is worth it for our longterm security and prosperity and that deferring or refusing action is somehow cheaper in the long term. It is not. Quite the opposite in fact.

It is objectively hilarious that the same people here who moaned about Dems not giving a damn about the cost of living are now defending Republicans not giving a damn about the cost of living. No wonder the Uniparty has had power for as long as it has with voters like these.

we, voters, put a republican president, congress, senate, with a conservative supreme court in 2024.

the stars were aligned for a lot of winning. if you honestly feel like the past two years were what you expected, then I would like to partake in whatever you're drinking.

  • deportations are lower than Obama's presidency, on track for 2/3 less deportations than Obama's presidency.
  • DOGE was killed within 6 months.
  • we don't have any Epstein arrests and half of the files remain closed.
  • 55 republicans voted against prevention of SNAP on sugar heavy products.
  • over 120,000 flock cameras have been installed.
  • vehicles being produced now must have cameras inside the cabin to "prevent impaired driving".
  • plans for 1,500 "data centers" that will consume an immeasurable amount of power.
  • no exit plan in a war that about 80% of American's do not want to be apart of.
  • rising gas prices due to said war.
  • 70% of farmers cannot afford fertilizer this year due to further complications of the straight being closed. I'm concerned of what happens to food prices after this summers yields are smaller.
  • 40 trillion in debt
I don't know how you think the midterms are going to go to the republicans. our government gives and gives and gives to other countries while we drive to work with higher gas prices, pass illegals selling flowers next to homeless on our streets, and work hard to fill 401k accounts with futures uncertain due to the amount of federal debt this country has.

I personally feel bamboozled and will not vote for another person that accepts foreign influence pac money.

Your first sentence sounds like "Let them eat cake." You must be so removed from your fellow citizens.

How has it failed? See the Jonatron's post.

I don't recall using the word "Iran". My point goes for Ukraine, Iran and anywhere else.

The affordability crisis is the result of government spending. "

"Inflation is always and everywhere a monetary phenomenon, in the sense that it is and can be produced by a more rapid increase in the quantity of money than in output"…. Milton Friedman

The insane gov spending during Covid resulted in goods costing about 25% more today. That particular spending accelerated the affordability problem. But the problem was always coming because gov overspending never stops.

The only way out of the collapse of the dollar, that can see, is for our economy to outgrow the debt. Trump bringing in 18 trillion in investment will help a lot, AI should help a lot and so should Elon Musk's Optimus robots as well as other robots. I just hope these positives save us before "our" federal government destroys us.

One other note…. If democrats take control of government they will destroy America on purpose and rule over the ashes. Open borders, defunding the police, raising taxes on the productive, weaponizing government against half the population are tools to destroy America!

It's all such a disaster. President Massie would have kicked the Jews out, made a deal with Iran, arrested Trump for Epsteins birthday card, and paid the debt off in 60 days.

Cut government spending, cut 12 regulations for every one added - particularly in construction, and eliminated the Dept of Education.
