I've driven all the way through to Orlando before. I was much younger and didn't have kids back then though. I'm too old for that. We could have flown but I like driving down the coast and getting a little gambling in and the kids get to see some real beaches and eat some nice seafood. Hurricanes are always a possibility during this time but this is the first time a trip got affected. We've probably done this drive 10 times now.

I watch the Weather Channel a lot, especially during weather emergencies. Cantore and Steph were pretty chill this morning. I was expecting their usual fear porn but no. Some storm surges along the Gulf coast, localized flooding possible.

They seem to believe a dome of dry air to the north and east of the storm will add shear and steer it more offshore.

We'll see I guess, as the week progresses?

A storm coming in straight at Rockport like that will cause localized flooding but likely not catastrophic. TS Gilberto flooded our neighborhood a couple of years ago because it hit us straight on and simply pushed water into the neighborhood. My wife got stranded in the house for about 3 days while I was in Dallas for work. Water came up our street and stopped about 10 feet from driveway. Buddy two streets over had his entire first floor flooded and destroyed.

The hill country / Highland Lakes (especially Lake Travis) don't need anymore right now … hope it goes elsewhere.

If you have kids with you, Shaggy's in Biloxi is right on the beach and has good outdoor seating areas. McElroys is probably a little better food, but not as much outdoor seating and looks over the harbor instead of the beach. Better seafood (with higher prices) and not as great of a view, try Catch 110. All of those are easy to get to off of I-10 by heading down I-110 to Beach Blvd in Biloxi.

If you are going in October, be aware that Cruising the Coast ( Cruisin' The Coast | America's Largest Block Party ) is October 4-11 in Biloxi/Gulfport area. Great chance to see a huge variety of classic cars and hot rods, but hotel rooms can be pretty scarce and wait times at restaurants can get pretty long at peak meal times.

The Space City weather report, which is usually pretty accurate, said the odds are this thing will dissapate into a remnant low before it hits the Texas coast. Not even much rain expected.

After the past decade around these parts, I am more than happy to hear that forecast.

Cantore couldn't rent a trackhoe to dig a hole to stand in to make it appear he was shoulder deep in water while people walked behind him in ankle deep water. Though I think he was the one who pretended the wind was blowing him around.

Nevermind. Just saw that the original location burned and its successor has closed. It was good.

As of today Lake Amistad is 35% full. Medina Lake is 27% full. Choke Canyon is 8% full. Mathis is 33% full. Canyon Lake is 98% full.

its still not officially a named storm yet

Do we think taking I-10 to Florida is ok if leaving Wednesday? Maybe just bypass New Orleans through CorndogLand?

In general, San Antonio probably has very little impact on the springs feeding the Frio and Nueces. Ag use and development around Uvalde, Leakey, etc. probably has a much bigger influence.

Live on the scene in Cozumel, soon to depart for the Bahamas. Err, the Flemish Cap. Sunny days and no waves.

Hope it does nothing more than make some interesting beachcombing at my place on Bolivar. Should make some interesting riptides coming from that direction. I was there for Beryl, which happened to be way worse inland than it was at the coast.

True. If I recall the Edwards Aquifer Authority (or whatever it goes by today) only has control over withdrawals out to Medina county.

Former boss bought a big ranch out that way years back. Dug a massive pond and wanted a well drilled to fill it. So i had to go down that regulatory rabbit hole a bit.

Claudette in 1979 came ashore as a very weak tropical depression after weaking down from a tropical storm and proceeded to drop over 40" of rain in 24 hours near Alvin.

Me as well. I was in high school at the time. Water was 2+' deep over Highway 6 from the overpass at 288 all the way to I45 at Bayou Vista. It was worse than Harvey in some localized areas.

I am in Nola. This is a nothing burger. It will rain like it does most days.

Yeah, I'm taking 10 and driving through. Weather guys seems to think this is a weird storm. Almost no rain north of it. I'll probably drive through the eye at some point but should be fine.
