The sheriff of Marion County (where I went to high school) just tore into a reporter for asking a question about a politically charged incident in another county that certainly had nothing to do with the child sex sting they were there for.

I really don't understand what the reporter was thinking in this instance.

Over the past decade or so, I have really gotten sick of journalists framing themselves as some brand of heroes of democracy. They remind me of the San Francisco Prius drivers on South Park.

There's lots of great things about living in central Florida, and the fact that we have no shortage of colorful sheriff's is one of them.

The reporter seems to be confused or incompetent. The wrongful arrest of Lindsey Isaacs was by the Florida Highway Patrol. As far as I can tell, the Marion County Sheriff's department had nothing to do with it.

Back around 2000 I worked as a sports editor on a college newspaper back home while rehabbing after a car accident on Hwy 6. We had to take classes on journalism as part of the deal and I was genuinely horrified by the split of people who thought journalists should do the news straight or be activist journalists. It was me on the straight journalist side and the other dozen odd people in the class on the activist side. I knew that wouldn't end well so none of this surprises me.

I like to think that one day, Sheriffs Grady, Billy, Gator, etc, will come to America's rescue at the head of a column of Florida Men. Much like Gandalf, Eomer, and the Rohirrim at Helm's Deep.

That movie All the President's Men ruined journalism.

More like the hero worship of Woodward and Bernstein that came from their Watergate reporting

Before that, reporters reported. After, they crusaded.

Wasn't one of them later caught outright lying about an ex CIA director?

Totally unrelated to what was being discussed there, and it was FHP that screwed up and not this sheriff's office. But the Lindsey Isaacs case was a particularly egregious case of bad police work.

The Florida AG and the FHP director, who are working to resolve the Isaacs case, were both at the press conference. That's why the reporter asked about the other case, but just like the FHP investigation this was bad reporting.

Yeah, they were both there, but the Marion County Sheriff was the one at the podium for a press conference dealing with work his office had done. He was right to be pissed.

This is the way we need to talk to dems and the MSM. They deserve zero respect. Zero!

Not confused at all. The reporter doesn't give a rip about what the press conference is about. He cares about creating controversy and getting a gotcha moment.

The only reason W&B got any story at all was because one swamp rat Mark Felt was pissed off after being passed up for a promotion. In short, they just got lucky. There was no in-depth investigation by them

Lest we forget Cronkite was also secretly submarining public sentiment on Vietnam before Watergate happened

Your response is the closet to what I was thinking. People need to quit automatically thinking these jackals in the Enemedia are "reporters". They're not! The vast majority of "reporters" in this country are there to help the Communist Party in this country, aka the Democrat Party, to sew confusion, dissent, discontent and general mayhem to help their comrades take this country apart at the seams. What happened at this press conference happens on a daily basis in this country, naturally some locations are worse than others, but as everyone can see this time it happened in Florida, a big time red state.
