Intuit is laying off about 17% of its workforce, or about 3,000 employees worldwide, to streamline operations and sharpen focus on its key bets including its AI efforts, according to an internal memo seen by Reuters on Wednesday.

The company has signed multi-year deals with AI startups Anthropic and OpenAI to integrate their AI models into its software, and add Intuit's personalized tax, finance, accounting and marketing capabilities into Claude and ChatGPT.

Ha. ChatGPT announced their new personal financial management software a couple of days as part of their Pro plan and said they are doing it by partnering with Intuit. My very first thought was Intuit basically let the barbarians in the gates.

Aah, i initially misread what you typed.

Was working with Intuit this year, and the absence of AI in the platform was super annoying. Their help sucks, AI built into the platform would be very helpful

You are correct, they might have let the barbarians in.

Just saw this. How sad. People are suffering. I consider myself lucky that my period of having kids was done in the 00's when corps were not this evil and heartless. I know how painful it is because I got laid off 2 months after my first child's birth and my wife wasn't working then so we had no income and a new baby and I did not have much money saved up (I was clueless about finances). I am generally a trusting and naive person. I used to believe the world was a good place. Until I saw how stupid I was and now I see the world in its naked evil glory. It is sad that many people still trust corporations and governments and expect these entities to take care of them if they work hard enough. Those days are long gone, if they ever existed.

I want to build my wealth to a certain level when I can feel 100% safe. Then I will begin to reach out to Americans who are in the situation of this woman below and help them one to one. It pained me a lot to read a post from someone on Linkedin that he was sleeping in his car after he lost his job and his house. Dude had worked in Google and other places. This shouldn't happen in America, we are fast becoming a 3rd world country.

I work in data center engineering for Meta, I was not laid off today though many on my team were. My last RIF went like this:

We get an email. It says "we are having a RIF today. If you get a meeting notice for 10am, you have been RIFed. Attend the meeting to hear the specifics."

My manager had no idea it was happening and we lost one person on our team.

I've probably missed it, but I assume Google is laying off/transferring search employees to ai?

If ad revenue is your cash cow and people don't google but go to AI, SEO seems to be semi-obsolete unless you can put ads in AI with the answers to questions.

Just wondering out loud how orgs that capture individual data deal with a shift to AI. Not just that FB is grandmothers, but what compelling content is there that you can't populate in AI instead?

Zuck pays his engineers very well, which is why people (mainly H1Bs) go and stay there as they are okay with abuse. Americans will not.

I predict this company will go out of business in a few years. His last chance is to strike gold in AI (whatever that means).

Lol at the number of advertisements they're squeezing everywhere on the platforms. Ever few posts is sponsored content. If you're scrolling the shorts, there's an ad interested into each one or at the end of each one. If you want to watch it again it's go back to share it with a friend, you must wait for the ad to end.

I figure customers will tolerate a certain amount of ads, but at a point customers will become tired of them at every turn. I'm certainly getting to that point that I'm sick of it

Meanwhile their algorithm is really lacking. There's less and less of what I want to see and more and more of what I do not.

Thanks for the advice but I already know that no one owes me anything. Learned that lesson a long time ago (read above). That is why I managed to single-handedly accumulate a good net worth legally. I am good. But I cannot say the same for my fellow citizens.

I am bitter not for myself but for my fellow citizens.

I definitely do think the government owes people something. A government is for the people. Corporations, well, it is not as simple. Corporations cannot just take from society and not give back. If they cannot give back, then can very well move to Sudan and exploit the Africans there.

For what it's worth, I think the only group completely untouchable during a downsizing are those on military leave.

I worked for Circle M during 9/11, and a major layoff was announced right before it happened. When the axe fell, it wound up being much deeper than expected. A couple of people in the reserves had already been called up, and supposedly some spots had been retained specifically for them when they returned.

AI is just pushed by CEOs because there is nothing in tech to excite the masses. Like we had websites, then ecommerce, then mobile, this or that. No one knows what AI will do. I am sure even Starbucks and Sherwin Williams Paints will soon announce their own LLMs to juice up their stock. Such is the illiteracy.

People are fearful because they think they will lose their jobs.

After 5 years,we will see not much different but CEOs would have done the damage to their companies in the name of AI and would have made off with the loot from getting fired and their parachutes.

It's the other way actually.

Boomers want AI. Boomers are also clueless about AI. Contradictory? No, because Boomers are retired/retiring and just want a cash cow for their investments. AI is the new shiny toy that boosts 401ks and IRAs. Boomers don't care about the job market. The would be okay if AI got everyone fired. To justify it, Boomers gaslight young kids that they are lazy and stupid and so it was well deserved that AI took their jobs.

Younger gens care about their job prospects. They feel AI is taking it away. So many of them hate AI and I don't blame them.

Summary
  • Boomers - Love AI as it makes them money.
  • Young 'uns - Hate AI as it keeps them unemployed or gets them fired.

Wow as an evil boomer I have to say this is some jacked up posting. Yep, them boomers they are all the SAME.
Lol.

People that partake in the generation blame game are losers in life. And that goes for Boomers that blame the young-uns.

Blamers are pathetic losers looking to scapegoat for their failures.

I have a coworker that frequently uses AI to generate certain things. He gets off to a quick start with a preliminary deliverable, but then he spends a lot of time either verifying things or tailoring it to a specific project. His efficiency gain seem marginal.
