Texas? Maybe in rural areas and some suburban counties.
Tennessee? Maybe the most conservative state currently.
Georgia? Mostly conservative outside the Fulton Co hellhole.
Alabama? Vying for most conservative state.
Florida? RD has completely flipped this large state to conservatism.

Most seem like they're in the south. The south might be the only way to save the republic.

We live in Texas and always will. But if we had to move my wife would most likely pick Tennessee and I would pick Florida. We like the beach too much so I think I'd be able to persuade her to pick Florida.

I'm not going to be able to stack Pennsylvania up against several of the states in this thread in terms of food, cool cities, scenery, etc. We will lose badly, I get it. We can argue weather another time. (I personally prefer 30 degrees over 90 degrees any day, plenty of rain, and no tornadoes or hail...but to each his own.)

But the thread is about conservative states. Once you get outside of the heart of Philly, Pitts, and Bucks County, PA is really conservative. My county in the northeast corner was almost 70% Trump this time around. We are in the northeast, butted up against NJ and NY, with the rest of mostly commie New England a few hours away, but PA is far more like Texas than NJ or NY.

We get the people who fled NJ and NY for far better taxes, guns, and freedom from regulations. You know, good normal people.

You get Fetterman to start cancelling out Collins and Murkowski and get a couple other meat heads to do the same and we can talk PA.

Speaking of the Quaker State, I learned looking up Nixon for another thread that he was a Quaker Shaker.

The answer to your question is West Texas. Texas is a conservative state, property taxes aren't through the roof here like the urban metropolitan areas, and the people are down to earth, Christian folk.

But, we're full, you can't move here

It is insane how conservative Texas is outside the urban areas. And many other states. Like 97+ percent in every election. Thank God for rural America. Otherwise the great gift would be a complete septic tank by now.

My county is usually 80% or better Republican in elections

Outside of the island I live on, I would strongly consider St. John, USVI. A worldwide architect of swimming pools and water features once told me that St. John was his first choice to build a retirement home, and I can understand why……..very limited rainfall, lovely beaches, rugged terrain, and protected by the U.S.

Living in TX for most of my life, I'm just used to it now...but, then, I live on N Padre Island now...

My plan is to buy a place in Sint Maarten and spend half the year there.

Haha. West Texas is too big to be full of people. Now you are going to get a stampede of refugees from Houston and Dallas. They cannot move to East Texas because it is a medical desert with only two hospitals.

If I didn't live in East Tennessee and water weren't an issue, I'd live in the mountains of West Texas near Fort Davis. Beautiful area, and few annoying people there. Far away from annoying people. Lots of snakes. Not too hot. Gets snow in the winter. Perfect.

My great granddad was Texan, worked in oil fields building Texas oil industry, granddad is lifelong Texan (Aggie), dad lifelong Texan, me and my kids are Texan..
BUT - This "property tax" crap makes me feel more like a renter than a Texan. How can I have pride in "my" little corner of Texas when every year the county sends me the rent bill? May as well rename this place to "Taxes"

Same for us. We live in Meeker on the western slope and dont really have a lot of impact from the Polis crazies. Life is simple out here with so much to do. Red town, red county, lots of church activity and good people.

If I had my pick it would be Idaho. For those that are wanting to go to Montana or Idaho, make sure you are prepared for harsh winters. They are no joke.

Fully agreed, I just got back from five years in Eugene, OR. In town everyone was nuts, but you get just a little further away and the people were cool and even had big Trump signs on their fences year round.

Too bad the entire state is run by the voters in Portland and Eugene.

Another reason we are moving out of state. About to save $20k+ per year on property taxes and insurance.

I'm retired and wife has a small business so cutting our annual housing expense is the biggest impact we can make to the budget.

We paid over $5000 in taxes each year on $135,000 house in Leander in 2011. The house wasn't anything special.

Taxes on that place now would probably be over $15,000.

I pay roughly $1000 per year in taxes on a home over three times the value of that previous home in East Tennessee.

Property taxes in Texas are nuts.

Our next house is valued $300k higher than current house and the taxes are going to be at least $12.5k lower.

Property taxes in Texas are off the rails but a victim of our own success plus property taxes being your primary means of funding everything.

However, like I've said before though, this wasn't much of an issue for us when we were dual income, but now that we are very low one income then housing costs matter. Being a retiree in Texas is bottom half of the country from a purely financial standpoint. There are other valid factors that can partially offset that - politics being one of those and point of this thread.
