Thoughts on South Carolina? Saw lots of Trump flags in public spaces last time there.

Ennis, Montana. Pretty sure if you outted yourself as a lib or Muslim in that down you may not be heard from again.

America.

Wyoming and Idaho are little *****es on weed so they are out for this hippie lettuce conservative.

Cody, Wyoming.

Indiana is a pretty conservative state with low taxes and cost of living. It's cold a lot of the year, but I also hate the heat. The downside is the "Mexican" food here sucks.

Just don't live in any of the big cities or in the valley, the rest of the state is very conservative.
I know Zephyr and Blanket aren't, but is Early a big city now?

Just a heads up: urban core Florida is totally blue.

All urban cores are blue. You might be able to find 1-2 exceptions at most.

Agree with others on Eastern Tennessee. That was top 2 on our list before deciding to go elsewhere. Still a pretty easy flight back to DFW where family and friends are.

It lost out only because we don't know it as well (that could have been easily solved), but we wanted to move faster than that would take. And we are just sick of humidity.

I've been in Ca since '79 exc for my years at A&M. It started deteriorating fast since the early-mid 90's (eg since Rodney king)…I'm staying as long as I can. Just can't quit the weather. No bugs, no humidity. Windows and doors open 24-7 almost year around.

I get it. If you can afford to buffer yourself from the rest of the idiocy, that's hard to beat.

EAST Tennessee.

We've been here since 2009.

Case in point. Last night on the local news they showed the inmates in the county jail in Scott County getting baptized. Given the slant in the news, even here locally, that was a surprise.

Several of our neighbors are from points elsewhere. All of them said they'll never leave this area.

Edit: And when I say East Tennessee, I'm saying east of exit 338 on I-40, which is where you switch to the Eastern Time Zone.

It's worse than what you're imagining. The only respite is driving to Indy to the closest Chuy's

Eastern Wa, Eastern Oregon, and Northern California (inland ofcourse) are the most conservative places I've ever been. Especially NorCal up to around Grants Pass, OR. Worked for several years in that area and loved the people. Beautiful country

Our 16yo is vetoing us looking in Big Sky in favor of the Madison River valley or Paradise Valley spot along the Yellowstone.

Says he doesn't want to be near any other people. Boy makes me proud.

My youngest daughter and her husband live in Missoula right now...the Austin of the north.

But, he's from Polson (right at the south end of Flathead Lake), so they're looking for some land up in that area. He works remotely right now so it would work great for them.

Absolutely beautiful in that area.

HOWEVER...it gets cold as **** and snows. Those are 2 things I don't do.

I have an old friend who lives outside of Stevensville, 30 miles south of Missoula. He and his wife moved there from Austin, TX 15 years ago. He loves the countryside and weather (he's from northern Indiana) but said he has not had much luck making friends with the locals. His version is they were very friendly at first when he moved up there and had money to spend buying appliances and so forth. I think that people can be very provincial in small communities. My solution was to join the volunteer fire department in rural East Texas 31 years ago.

Wait...so:

1) It's cold a lot of the year
2) It's hot (as someone living in TX...BWAJAJAJAJA)
3) ****ty "Mexican" food.

Sounds like ****ing paradise...

Good thing for my daughter is that her husband is a local...

Well, if he'd only listened to your advice 31 years ago...

Living in TX for most of my life, I'm just used to it now...but, then, I live on N Padre Island now...

My plan is to buy a place in Sint Maarten and spend half the year there.

Funny thing is that it will be winter when I'm there.

I'll still be in TX for summer...

Good friends have had it with Blue Colorado, and are scouting for their retirement location. They are considering South Dakota, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho and Montana. They love winter/snow etc. so northern locations is required. Makes me sad because the Colorado I grew up in was awesome

Nebraska blows like the wind. As with a lot of those states, their allegiance blows with the winds of farm subsidies. Both sides know this and fundraise, purchase votes accordingly.

Crop dust them all until they finally pick a side. No more Missouri Compromise *****

Not many rural areas anywhere in the U.S. where you won't be surrounded by hard conservatives. There are places in every state (a majority of every state actually) that the day to day living is the best there is anywhere in the world. You just have to put up with the insane state laws that the loons in the urban areas of every state get implemented.
