At the time, Migration Minister Elma Saiz said Spain needed to add as many as 300,000 taxpaying foreign workers per year to sustain its state benefits, including for pensions, health care and unemployment.

Spain needs what essentially amounts to slave labor to pay for its bennies. They also want to grant amnesty which I presume would come with voting rights. So, permanent power for the socialist part. Oh. And the now legal illegals would get to travel all over the eu too.

A Moroccan criminal who has just illegally entered Ceuta admits that he was expelled from the Netherlands to avoid serving a 5-year sentence and had his Spanish passport taken away.

Additionally, he says he has hepatitis C.

Criminals and the sick are coming.

That's confusing. So the Netherlands expelled him rather than wanting to jail him? I mean, I would do the same thing and think that's smart so just clarifying.

Spanish courts have ruled that those illegal immigrants arriving "by sea" cannot immediately be returned across the border in contrast to those arriving by land. Moroccans can swim to the Spanish enclave off Morocco known as Ceuta as seen in the videos . Local authorities want a state of emergency with police and army reinforcements brought in.

It's a ridiculous ruling, but there it is.

I appreciate them making a statement, but the damage is already done.

Unless they demand Spain provide proof that they deported X amount of Moroccans, back to their country, to lift the restriction...this is just for show.

To be accurate, I think they've only suggested it so far but haven't actually done it. Will take some legal votes and decisions to do that I'm sure.

Hope they do though.

The EU has built itself a fortress of laws/legalese/process that make dismantling it to any real degree nearly impossible. The EC/parliament itself is governed by an absolutely enormous set of rules/laws that make our CFR look like a small set of cliff notes, and the parliament itself has over 750 members.

Relations with the UK are...not great right now. I think the MI5 roles in Russiagate, the 'very fine conversation' impeachment, and other acts of subterfuge in our politics (including Labour sending over folks to campaign for Kamala) he is quite aware of at present.

More tariffs on the UK/EU coming?

He's 100% correct. It's just not accepted by the left. They'll mock him for it.

Oh Pedro and the EU aristocrats rose up in anger about the 'bigoted/hateful/illegal' response of the Italians, because questioning military age moslem migrant waves invading Europe is a far greater evil vs. the actual invasion.

Spoiler; nothing will be done and it is all getting swept into the memory hole/under the rug in Brussels and their affiliated propaganda outlets.

I could see it happening. After all, it just took rumors of some youtube videos in Romania to pull that off. The French and Germans alike are also working to just ban the far right candidates/parties too.

Europe writ large is weak because they have deliberately over time chosen to be weak, led by weaklings toward insanity. The Ceuta Clownshow:
Quote:

Many have seen in these remarkable events a deliberate weaponisation of mass migration by state actors to punish or pressure Spain for whatever reason. That the Rabat government might have initially tolerated the crossings is the scenario with the most precedent, but for me these speculations mostly miss the point. The most obtrusive factor here is just the incredible weakness of EU border security, which our leaders have happily outsourced to neighbouring third countries like Morocco, in the process ceding these countries incredible leverage. Thus all it takes to overrun ancient Spanish territory in North Africa is a diffuse social media propaganda campaign, limited cooperation from organised smuggler networks and the momentary inattention of Moroccan border police. Europe stands at the mercy of whatever random geopolitical upset, third-world economic malaise or passing confusion can summon the hordes.

The reason this post is so late, is that I just hate repeating myself. As the same things happen over and over again, I have to fight ever harder to find an original perspective. I read my older posts on the migration problem now with some faint embarrassment, because I think the standard explanations I once entertained for this strange and unprecedented phenomenon are at best minor footnotes to a problem that can best be explained by some combination of inattention, disinterest and weakness. The migrants aren't really a great labour force; they remain overwhelmingly on the dole and unemployed. The humanitarian thesis feels increasingly post hoc to me a story we started telling ourselves when the migration was already happening and we needed somehow to feel good about it. And some parties on the left may once have hoped that the migrants would form a favourable client class to cement their political dominance, but on the electoral front migration has served only to fuel the rise of the populist right.

Mostly these insane things happen because we're weak, and our leaders have lost interest in basic state functions like border security. They've moved on to more interesting and exotic projects weird social engineering projects to stamp out whatever they imagine "the right" to be, weird energy projects to phase out fossil fuel combustion, weird governance projects to relocate responsibility over many aspects of the economy and daily life to unelected managers and technocrats. Mass migration is in nobody's interest but it keeps happening because the flabby and distracted states of Europe can't be arsed to stop it.

Well, they already tried to ban Le Pen and are still trying. Won't surprise me at all if they ratchet that up to keep the "far right" out of office.

Macron had to engineer an arrangement amongst the left wing groups last time around to keep them in office.

The left: you have to kill Democracy in order to save it.

Ireland is a far left wing country now. That's really all that is required to hate the Jews at this point.

I think that there is some confusion between "hating the Far Right" and "hating democratic accountability." You can make a pretty strong argument that the right/left debate is largely irrelevant. The real debate feels like a choice between a "self-perpetuating bureaucratic elite" and power outside of the heritage lines of that system.

Put another way, if you believed that your grandfather had supported Hitler, would you hesitate in endorsing democracy?

To be born European is to carry a political heritage that is more complex than anything that we bear, as Americans.
