Have you ever hired someone, or better yet tried to fire someone in Germany? It is comical.

My previous employer had a factory in Germany with its own union. Not only was it impossible to fire somebody the union had the power to decide what parts would or would not be made at other factories if the German factory had made the part number at any time in the history of the German factory. Even if the part was made prior to the current companies ownership of the factory.

Or in other words, if the German factory had made part X, They could stop any other factory in the company from making the same part if they wanted. It was insane. A group of factory workers deciding what other factories could or could not make.

Which of course meant nothing new ever got made in Germany. Too risky to allow the German union to have power over the future of the item.

Should have happened in 1989.

One of the biggest concerns is sensitive data sharing with countries that are becoming more "diverse" and as common alignment is changing. Not even to mention control over nuclear weapons.

A new pact needs to be written to reflect the current reality of the world. Defense has to be tied to trade as well.

One of the major reason Putin is in Ukraine is because no definitive action was taken when he took the Crimea. With all of the protests, budget issues, demographic issue and growing civil unrest Europe is going to be in for a very difficult time and we should not be involved in their wars. Again.

No way in hell we should be involved because the other reality is that we will not have the fortitude to do what needs to be done to win. We had to get nasty in WWII to win that. This country is not built or prepared to fight a war like that again.

Correct.
Further they have been warned for decades and snubbed the US under the assumption the USA will bail them out after they screw themselves. Which is happening now across multiple issues. They are not "allies" they are competitors and are using every angle they can to find an advantage. The post-WWII order is decaying rapidly and former agreements are fraying quickly.

I spent a summer studying in Germany back in grad school. What most people don't realize is how ingrained the unions are in the private world there. Unlike the BoD at companies here in America, German BoD's are required to have union representation. In addition, the government itself is extremely pro-union so you have company management having to fight two fronts: against its own board and the federal government. Thus, this is why German companies can't fire anyone and can no longer compete effectively.

Go read up on VW travails this year. TBF, a lot of their troubles were of their own making from a management standpoint. Massive, bloated company with no vision or strategic direction. The current CEO came up with plan that would require thousands of layoffs and for them to start selling off brands and other non-core business units. VW owns an absurd number of brands with massive duplication and redundancy throughout the organization.

His Hail Mary a few weeks ago was to try and end around of his own company and to go directly to the shareholders to try and effect the changes they needed but somewhat miraculously he got the unions to agree to some of his demands at the last minute. The threat of China bankrupting the largest company in Germany proved to be enough to scare even the unions to play ball.

I would say you are technically correct but at the same time they also performed some miracles when I worked with them.

Germans seem to become target locked on a few things they find important at the possible expense of everything else. As long as they are excited about the right things they are excellent.

A German engineer at my former employer would tell stories about his brilliant friend that worked at Mercedes. Smartest automotive engineer out there apparently. So of course Merc put him in charge of door handles because during a wreck you don't want the occupants thrown out of the car due to a failure. Sure I guess, but the amount of technical data he shared on how much thought they put into their door handles compared to other companies was just a tad insane.

When I studied in Germany back in 2003, we toured the Schott Glass factory in Germany. Back then they had no concept of OSHA. Maybe they still don't. I literally watched a guy use his hand as his protection as he leaned in looking inside some machine process as molten glass was pouring out of another machine about 3 inches from his face. His bare hand was his shield against that. Zero protective equipment being worn.

There was a wheelbarrow in the corner full of empty beer bottles because they drank on the job.

Absolutely nuts.

Boy, the Euro's clearly hate independent media. Long article, worth the read imho. Excerpt:
Quote:

Having quietly killed free speech in Europe, several European governments are now zeroing in on independent media and journalists to end the free flow of information.

Banning independent media outlets and journalists directly would not work: it would just give the game away. Instead, softer, more indirect ways to get rid of alternative and independent media have been devised.

In Germany a draft bill has been put on the table that will, if all 16 federal states pass it, require big tech platforms to manipulate the algorithms in such a way that at least 20% of algorithmic recommendations for content must come from media outlets approved by German authorities. The point, we are told, is "diversity" because nothing quite screams "diversity" like state-approved media.

Germany's state-funded broadcasters, such as ARD, ZDF and Deutschland Radio, are automatically qualified, whereas "private outlets would have to apply to Germany's 14 regional media authorities, which decide who receives it," accordingto the news website Brussels Signal.

According to ReMix, "The proposed measure is already being slammed as a state-mandated propaganda effort that would force German citizens to view content friendly to the ruling establishment parties."
Germany, in short, is introducing a system that will effectively ban independent journalism by using a state-imposed algorithm to force its extinction, while giving priority to state-approved content from corporate legacy media, which by virtue of its size and funding already plays an outsized role.

That is not all. Germany is reportedly planning to empower regional media authorities to conduct "indiscriminate mass surveillance" of online media, podcasts, and videos using tools such as AI, even when no complaint has been lodged. The aim, according to German news website Nius:
Quote:

"The new law would empower media authorities to automatically monitor new media on platforms like YouTube, X, and Instagram and to penalize alleged violations of journalistic standards. This would effectively elevate one authority to a media control body -- a move that would open the floodgates to political censorship. In the past, state media authorities have repeatedly taken action against media outlets they deemed undesirable.

We have an entire military organization devoted to protecting Western Europe from being conquered by a country that no longer exists while the EU implements everything we set up that military organization to prevent.

And now, after 12 years of open border policies, the European Commission has announced that Spain/Italy/Greece/Cyprus (I guess France isn't having a tough time) may export the invaders to eastern europe.

Quote:

The size of the Solidarity Pool was decided today but the information about it is being kept secret for now.

6 countries were classified as facing a "significant migratory situation" and will be allowed to request from exemptions of receiving quota migrants. Those 6 countries are:

Poland
Czechia
Croatia
Austria
Bulgaria
Estonia

To receive an exemption, the country's request has to pass a QMV vote (Qualified Majority Voting) in the Council of the European Union.

Countries which are forced to take part in the Solidarity Pool will either have to take in the number of quota migrants assigned to them by the EU, pay EUR 21 000 for every quota migrant they refuse to receive or send significant resources to help the 4 countries under migratory pressure to handle the situation.

Two countries have refused to take part in the entire new migrant relocation system and its fines. Those two countries are:

Hungary
Slovakia

Poles//Czechs/Austrians are about to get so culturally enriched.

Justice Minister advances work toward banning AfD.

Leftist trans/gay shooter in Poland now being used by Tusk post-mortem to blame conservatives (gee, that sure sounds familiar).

But reality;
Quote:

Update to today's terrorist attack in Poland.

The shooter has been identified as Micha Oksiski from Ostrowiec.

An additional victim of the nass shooting has died, bringing the death toll to six and the reported number of injured to an additional 16 people.

Kamil Kosin was one of the responding policemen and is the policeman in the video that was posted this afternoon. He sustained three gunshot wounds from an automatic weapon.

Despite being shot, Kosin still neutralized the attacker. The attacker had an automatic weapon, a helmet, and a vest.

The parents and sister of Oksiski were found dead in the apartment where the shooter lived with them.

Oksiski's social media posts are inconsistent. They seem to have included anti-Catholic and pro-Communist posts, as well as manga and anim type posts, as well as Falanga imagery.

He allegedly attended the 2020 pro-abortion protests in Poland, the "All-Poland Women's Strike."

In one of the images pulled from his Facebook account before it was deleted his caption was, "A photo bathed in the red light of communism-simply delightful."

Kana Zero, a Polish news channel interviewed a couple of people who knew the killer from school and alleged that he had worn all kinds of masks, dressed strangely, and painted his nails black.

Reports about the shooter and the victims are prelimary at the moment, as the story continues to evolve with updates.
