Bla bla you and a few others with lots of socks/alts are suckup or working for a regime that is indefensible.
That, or you are 5 years old and know absolutely nothing that has gone in in that region for the last 47 years.

I dont need Trump or your lying ass with your marry band of IRGC supporters or apologist to tell the me history of that region. The Beirut bombing of the Marine barracks attack of 1983 and the 440 day hostage event of 1979 along with numerous terror attacks have me knowing all I need to know about the IRGC or anyone that defends them. They are evil and indefensible.

I could careless about your Trump card and BS. 1979 and 1983 were plenty for me. I hope we whack every single member of that organization then take the time to piss in the Ayatollah skull . Then justice will be served.

And for those who believe Iran will just go away if ignored, the latest Iranian armed forces appointments:
Quote:

Khamenei instructed (Brigadier General Ahmad) Vahidi who took command of the IRGC in March and was officially confirmed to the post on Monday to strengthen deterrence and readiness for "powerful offensive operations", projecting a more assertive military posture.
Top negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Vahidi had led the IRGC during the recent war and said the force should continue its path "by drawing on the guidance of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei," according to a statement reported by state media.
---
Ali Vaez, deputy program director for Middle East and North Africa at the International Crisis Group think tank, said the appointments "are as much about consolidating Mojtaba [Khamenei]'s authority as correcting the vulnerabilities exposed by two wars."

Sina Toossi, a senior non-resident fellow at the US-based Center for International Policy, said the language surrounding Vahidi's appointment was "particularly striking."
"Khamenei calls for 'maximum deterrence' but also explicitly instructs the IRGC to maintain readiness for 'powerful offensive operations against the enemy,' Toossi wrote on X. "Iranian commentary is already highlighting this as an unusually explicit articulation of offensive operations as part of the IRGC's mission."

Cole attack was carried out by radical Sunni's associated with Bin Laden and they got face planted for their trouble. I want to see the IRGC in its entity get face planted for 1979, 1983 and all the crap since. Radical Sunni, Shia who cares they are all nuts.

You are assuming that they are in a static situation, and they aren't. It's not like they are sitting on infinite reserves and can just do this forever. Iran is degrading their own internal situation more the longer this goes. It's a gamble on their part, but my guess is the administration is ok with the status quo because 1 month of the current state probably sets Iran back 6 months in recovery even if no regime change happens, which would be why Trump doesn't seem to be in a big hurry to wrap things up decisively. There's no way to tell if the Iranian gamble will pay off by allowing the IRGC to keep existing or not in the future, but to say Iran is winning anything at this point is pretty laughable.

Iran is winning the PR battle for a very small minority of misguided American hearts and minds.

Trump's credibility has no bearing on the fact that Iran has been and will continue to be an existential threat as long as the current regime is in power. I could catalog their list of terror plots by both their own operatives and their proxies over the past 40 years, but that would be both unnecessary and pedantic since the record is clear. The best domestic resource, IMHO, is the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point. I use this abstract quote from one of their research projects to identify the regime's goals:
" Over the past 40-plus years, the Islamic Republic of Iran has targeted dissidents, Western opponents, Israelis, and Jews in assassination plots, abduction plots, and surveillance operations that facilitate both. Iran has carried out such external operations around the world, in countries with both strong and weak law enforcement agencies, border crossings, and intelligence services. It has done so consistently over the years, including at times and in places where carrying out such operations could undermine key Iranian diplomatic efforts, such as negotiations over the country's nuclear program…"
https://ctc.westpoint.edu/trends-in-iranian-external-assassination-surveillance-and-abduction-plots/

IOW, this is a forever existential war, whatever the underlying entrenched grievances surrounding the US and British roles in overthrowing Iranian PM Mohamed Mossadegh in 1953. We fail to treat Iran as an existential threat at our peril.

That is just insane that you would post it with no shame. Well done

It's not insane: it is a rational response to their 40 plus year campaign of espionage and terrorism against Americans. Perhaps you have some factual basis to counter what I (or the West Point Counter-Terrorism Center) wrote. I would be happy to listen.

You don't think Iran's responses over the last five decades have anything to do with the US launching preemptive espionage and regime change campaigns against them with Israel in the co-pilot's seat? The US has been meddling in the ME for decades now and building out military bases all over the region, for resource control and to tilt the scales of global power.

We didnt like it when Russia, our adversary, was planning on putting missiles in Cuba or ginning up a communist movement within our borders. We almost went to nuclear war with them over it. Russia went to war with Ukraine to prevent them from joining NATO and to prevent having NATO weapons right on their doorstep. Iran has been fighting with Israel and the US in the region because we have weapons on their doorstep and have been inciting uprisings in the region for decades (see Arab Spring).

Bottom line is and history shows, no sovereign nation, whether you like them or not, likes having adversarial nation states meddling in their business or having weapons systems propped up all around them. The response to push back against these types of intrusions is obvious. Any capable nation would do the same.

Take that hatred for Israel away and Iran is still a threat. Iran is a Twelver Shiite entity. That is not something which Americans can easily translate because its roots are in the caliphate succession crisis after the Rashidun.
Fast forward to 2026: the recent military appointments and return to the old guard represent a hardening of Iran's ruling class, which, following the Khomeinist tradition, sees the ruling government having a divine mandate. Their thinking about what justice looks like is very different than what we westerners think of as just or fair. Hence, the regime would defend at least the intent to enforce religious law by beating (and ultimately killing) a teenage girl for not wearing prescribed modest attire.
Against such an enemy I don't employ the American ideal of justice or fairness because it is perceived as weakness by the old guard now in charge. So arguments about national sovereignty may be fodder for a class in international law, but the basis in reality is not convincing since almost no Middle Eastern nation abides by it in practice. Iran's Twelver Shia ideology, enshrined in their constitution, trumps all other considerations for compromise, mercy or policy modification.
I find your Israel reference to be non-persuasive. The Iranians have made no secret that eliminating Israel is one of their ultimate objectives. Believe their words; the Israelis do and are acting accordingly.

I am going to call this one dubious at best. Sure the judge may have seen evidence of Iranian involvement but if there was real hard core intelligence evidence it would have come out before Trump highlighted it on Feb 28.

For example, if there was a connection do you really think Cheney, Bush, Bolton, Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, Obama, Trump in his first term when he killed Solomani, etc would just ignore it? HIGHLY unlikely.

It doesn't pass the smell test for me. Call me cynical....

Link, because I can't imagine Iran driving us out of the gulf. At best we left, but I'd imagine Trump or Hegseth or someone would've mentioned that very big piece of our situation.

I can't believe that either it was a post on x from some Iranian government figure. But I know for a fact Iranian fishing boats were everywhere in the gulf yesterday and last night. Not sure how they know vetted to be fishing boats and not laying mines.

They are for sure lying about blockade because Iranian flagged vessels are everywhere in the gulf so maybe we aren't in Persian gulf anymore maybe the blockade it's at the entry way into the gulf. But if that's the case that means they have control over the strait.

The blockade has never been in the heart of the strait. It goes from the easternmost point of the Omani coastline over to the Iran/Pakistan border. It is against shipping into and out of the Gulf of Oman to/from the Arabian Sea.

Macroeconomics and U.S. Hegemony don't really care about your feelings for Israel, Zionism, or Jews.

The Eastern Hemisphere is roughly 85% of the world population. Making our hemisphere 15% of the world population.

If the U.S. stopped doing any business outside of the U.S., our economy would shrink between 30-50%.

Let's just say for the sake of argument, that number was made up by someone that wants to "control" you and us as a country. Even a 10% reduction in our economy would be devastating.

I've developed a big enough posting record around here that I'm firmly established in the 1) Govt is too big 2) We can't fight forever wars 3) Military Industrial Complex needs to be reigned in 4)I'm not a neocon by the real definition of the word and not the recently made up definitions

Having said that, at this point, because of the mismanagement and excess of the democrats and republicans since the launching of the New Deal and Great Society policies of the 1935-1965 era and all subsequent failures to rein in the U.S. federal government. There is only one option for the U.S. the prevent complete collapse. That is to maintain world hegemony.

American first should not mean (inside american borders only). Americans make a lot of money from the world
Economy. Including the eastern hemisphere. Including the Middle East. Approx 1 million Americans work in the Middle East. And that is not just military or military contractors. The majority of that number is corporate economy activity.

There are alot of white collar and blue collar Americans working in the Middle East for companies making a lot of money for Americans stateside. Many of those company make a lot of money for share holders. Not just hedge fund managers. They make money for millions of Americans 401Ks and retirement investments.

Thousands of US companies are invested to the tune of a trillion dollars and more in economies around the world.

If you want to see what happened to American Energy companies kicked out of communist dictator countries of South America, that is what will happen in the Middle East.

China and Russia have been working overtime in the last 40 year to gain control over the entire ME. China making the push over the last 15. The axis they have created in Iran, Iraq, and Syria. The only thing keeping Turkey somewhat in check is their membership in NATO.

If these economic and defensive alliances are further solidified and they break the will of the other ME countries to stop being close business and military partners with the U.S. The US economy will be in a world of hurt.

Anyone that is truly America First and American first. You do not want to cheer for the fall of the U.S. as the world hegemony. Our economic future will look similar to Britain's current state if this happens. It would likely take longer than 100 years but it would most certainly go in that direction.

Our way of life and current economic prosperity, which is very very high from top to bottom by every single measure by historical standards. Could it and should it be better than it is? Absolutely! Have American politicians sold out American workers and farmers and producers? Absolutely! Do we need to reshore an even bigger manufacturing base? Absolutely!

But doing all of that should be for the purpose of offering our own goods and services globally. We will absolutely get shut down by China if they are the gatekeepers of economies outside the one in their borders. We know this because they already do it inside their borders. They will do it in every country they control. You can count on it.

Iran is a major piece on Chinas board. We can't allow them complete control of that country or its neighbors.

Trump and his team have done a terrible job executing this action on Iran. There is much to be critical of and there is now a higher risk that the U.S. loses hegemony in the region because of the last 6 months. Americans should not be cheering on further failure but a turn around of the situation.

My only comment (other than agreeing on this 99.999999%) is on the MIC part.

I don't think it's as bad as it's made out to be. I DO love how the horseshoe closes on the issue, though. You've got the entire left that hates it, and then a portion of the right that does too. I find that interesting. Although, I think the majority on the right lean mostly towards the isolationist part of the right...

Hegemony or late stage empire?

ETA: its interest that the Iran war is now about hegemony, and not based on the other lies we've been told.

The 'mowing the grass' analogy here I like.

Quote:

Iran produces many of its missiles domestically and has spent years building a dispersed, hardened, and increasingly resilient defense-industrial base. As long as Tehran retains both the motivation and the underlying capacity to rebuild, it will inevitably attempt to restore, and adapt, its capabilities after every round of strikes.

Military action can destroy launchers, production facilities, stockpiles, and infrastructure. It can impose costs and buy time. But degrading a capability is not the same as preventing its reconstitution.

That distinction matters strategically. A recurring campaign of strikes faces diminishing returns: each successive round can become more costly as Iran learns, disperses, hardens, conceals, and rebuilds. What Israel often calls "mowing the grass" is therefore a particularly poor framework for Iran. The "grass" does not simply grow back; it learns how it was cut.

The conclusion should not be that military power has no value. It is that we should stop expecting military power to achieve an objective it is poorly suited to deliver.

There are no easy answers, especially when our ME 'allies' are flying planes full of gold/currency to Tehran.

Quote:

According to a source of mine in Iran, the Emirati government has released several billion dollars more of Iran's frozen assets held in Emirati banks, including at least 1.5 tonnes of gold worth approximately $212 million.

The assets were flown to Iran aboard Boeing 737-7KK BBJ A6-RJA, operated by UAE-based RoyalJet, from Abu Dhabi to Tehran's Mehrabad International Airport and Payam Airport in Karaj on August 11 and 12, 2026.

This is the third time the UAE government has released and transferred Iran's frozen assets back to Iran.

According to my source, this is also one of the key reasons the Islamic regime of Iran spared the UAE during the renewed conflict and escalation of hostilities between Iran and the United States in July.

They also sold/bribed them a half dozen used planes Babak Taghvee said.
Quote:

In addition to former Saudia Boeing 777-268ERs transferred to Iran by UAE-based ECT Aviation Support, three Boeing 737-300/500s and two former Condor Airbus A320-212s have been sold to Iranian airlines by the Emirati companies Aerovision FZ and Skysource FZ, respectively. The two A320s have already been flown to Iran.

While its propagandists on social media are trying to portray the Emirati Government as taking a tough stance against the Islamic regime of Iran, in reality, weak and frightened Emirati government officials have continued bribing the Ayatollahs and IRGC generals in an effort to have their country spared during the renewed hostilities between Iran and the United States in July.

Pretty frustrating. As usual, the middle east remains a venn diagram of which moslem country, or Israel, does one want to trust/believe today. Answer; not a single one.

And yet, Iran is still hitting UAE (Adnoc) tankers (also operating for the Iraqi's), which are the main hormuz dark traffic imho.

Whatever.

To anybody who thinks appeasing Iran in any way is a good idea, the lessons of Munich 1938 are lost on them.
It is the Twelver Shia mindset that their highest duty is to eliminate their enemies.
This is the real Long War along with our likely eventual collision with China/Russia and North Korea.

The sooner we realize that, the better.

America first means just that America first. You hit on middle eastern energy policy and that's exactly where we want to be. It's to late to go back but let's move forward by putting America first. That means in the middle East Israel should be at the bottom of the list. Every country that has oil is at the top. We need oil the cheaper the better it's what helps Americans thrive. Lowers the price of everything. Why would we ever be friends with any country that risks are access to cheap oil.

America first doesn't mean America only it's making decisions that help Americans the majority of us not a small segment. These countries have always hated us because of our relationship with Israel. A nothing country they do nothing for us stop being a friend to them. This isn't even saying they control our country it's saying a country of 9million people the size of New Jersey has cost us 25 years of war. They have given us nothing but problems put America first and drop them like a bad habit. As a matter of fact Team up with the people that our Israel enemies as long as they produce oil. Make America great put American needs first.

If you have 1 friend that's takes all your money and goes around picking fights with 12 other friends who will you pick? The 12 other friends never ask for money the actual opposite they have lots and lots of money that can help you and your family.

Approaching September now and what happened to the total economic collapse of Iran than was going to happen within days that we were told about months ago?

Trump now has new maga arguing over what maga actually is and isn't.

He still can't find an off ramp in the total disaster he has started.

It didn't have to be this way. We made it this way the people in charge making all the money made it this way. Everything isn't Hitler and Germany it's not the 1930's anymore. Our relationship with Russia should have never been like this but a small percentage of former enemies of Russia and greedy government insiders have got us here. It's a talking point that keeps giving. Ignore the 50 million illegals in your country the real enemy is the Russians or the Shia. Our families will get killed by a illegal driving drunk before any Shia or Russian gets them. We have basically been invaded and agreed to let them stay but appeasing Iran is the problem.

This is the same narrative talking point that keeps the rich and powerful even more rich and powerful. The enemy is here not in Russian. Your car insurance doesn't keep going up because of Russia. Groceries aren't high because of Russia. We have weaseled into a foreign policy that does everything except keep Americans safe. The reason we spend a trillion a year should be to keep us safe but it's not. It's so some big wigs at defense companies can make money.

Don't worry, everyone is already aware of why you think Israel should be at the bottom of the list. You don't have to pretend to justify it with nonsense.
