I may have mentioned this in the past here but it hasn't gotten any press until this week. It's been verified that Don Huffines purchased the Zorro Ranch through an LLC in 2023. I've supported Don for years but when I found out about this, he lost my support until he gives a good reason for the purchase. I know others feel differently, but it's good for it to be out there. I've read information about it being purchased in a public auction or that the proceeds went to the victims but there are conflicting reports.

I thought my comptroller vote was a slam dunk for Huffines, but with this information and the baggage the others have, I'm voting for Berlanga. I'm interested in hearing y'all's thoughts and if this should just simply be looked at as a real estate transaction.

Unless he bought it to traffic women for political blackmail I don't really see the issue here.

It's land. Get over it.

His family's business buys it from unnamed owners in a LLC.

Can you provide any evidence how Don personally felt about it?

Yea this is a big nothing burger. Its land. I bought some land in Central Texas and found out a murder happened there 50 plus years ago. Am I supposed to condemn it?

As another has already been said... It's land. What has done there by the previous owner or what the previous owner did with other properties has zero bearing on the new owner and the new use of the land.

Epstein was, by all accounts, a disgusting human and the world is a better and marginally safer place with him dead. But lets not think that what he was doing required specialized infrastructure, it's just a ranch. So it's got a main house and possibly some bunk houses, guest houses, pool cabanas? Perhaps some remodeling is in order?

Just spitballing here, but did the creep even ever spend time there? Or was it primarily a place to store a pile of cash as a hedge against inflation? That's the primary driver of the ultra wealthy to own real estate.

I'm curious as to why it should NOT "just simply be looked at as a real estate transaction.

A friend of mine just bought a bunch of equipment from a guy who was just arrested for relations with underage females. He got the equipment for like 1/2 price and significantly increased his output. No issues with it. Except he has to deal with me cracking jokes and giving him a hard time.

He provided this statement:

"Four years after Mr.
Epstein's death, the Huffines family purchased property in New Mexico listed at public auction whose proceeds benefited his victims. Prior to the auction listing, they had never visited the property."
- Allen Blakemore, Spokesman

A friend of mine also spoke to him and Don said apparently the ranch was cleared by the government and he would cooperate with authorities if needed. Like I say, I've been a huge fan and had the chance to talk to him and his wife a few times, I just don't know if I buy this. If Beto made the same purchase, people would be up in arms.

If you can't buy property where something bad happened, there would be a lot of ghost towns out there.

No one could own an acre in the south without being called a slaver.

Can't believe OP's house sits on a former cotton field, hypocrite!!!!

It's in the Epstein files. It was like a house of horrors with human experimentation, rapes, murders, and a couple of bodies buried on site.

Don't understand why that transaction gives you heartburn.

Epstein was taken out for his connections to the rich and powerful. His partner in crime is in Bryan at a federal country club.

I doubt the Huffines family will keep his spirit alive. It's just a transaction.

This is ridiculous. You should feel dumb for posting or thinking this. No one would care if Beto did that. It's just land and maybe even benefited the victims.

I think the more ridiculous thing is slam dunk vote for Huffines.
We'll win this war, but we'll win it only by fighting and by showing the Germans that we've got more guts than they have, or ever will have. We're not going to just shoot the sons-of-b******, were going to rip out their living G*******d guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks. We're going to murder those lousy Hun c********** by the bushel-f****** basket. War is a bloody killing business. You've got to spill their blood or they will spill yours. Rip them up the belly. Shot them in the guts.

The entire Epstein thing is Unfathomable in my mind. Not humanly possible for people to do to other people the things that went on for political and monetary gain. ...and yet Houston and BCS are huge sex trafficking cities. Everyday. Everyday the unspeakable is happening. Around the world, in America, in our home towns. How is it not stamped out with extreme prejudice?

Comparing this to Aschwitch is nuts. What Epstein did was unfathomable but to compare it is stupid. What about the rape and Piliage of Ghengis Khan and multiple leaders in History and all was rebuilt on those areas.

That article sounds like a hit piece from another campaign. The New Mexico ranch was purchased at an auction 4 years after Epstein was dead so I don't see any reasonable connection. But wow what a ranch house.
Most wealthy families I know have vast real estate holdings to enjoy and as an alternate investment. These properties are usually held in an LLC, often with a different LLC for each property.

This comptrollers race will be interesting with the big money Huffines running against Craddick. The Craddick family has represented the oil/ gas/ pipeline interest better than anyone over the years in the Texas Legislature, with her Dad Tom Craddick repeatedly leading the charge to defeat All meaningful eminent domain reform in Texas for decades.
So expect some massive mud slinging from the Craddick campaign or its associates.

Zero issues with this. New Mexico needs more conservatives so I salute this purchase. My wife and I would love to live in Santa Fe County ourselves, if we get over their atrocious politics. It's a stunningly beautiful area.

And my answer to this would have been "It's none of your damn business."

Quote:

Huffines' spokesperson didn't answer questions about the purpose of the property purchase, and Huffines didn't respond to calls and emails left Thursday evening and Friday morning.

This rag also called Charlie Kirk a right wing activist. That's a lie. He was normal and represented what used to be the norm before the far left wing got such power in this country.

How many slaves died or worked until they were spent, in or near the OPs house? Why would anyone buy property in the south (or north)?

You drew the analogy, not me. But let's run with it.

Did Huffines pay too little for it or too much? Is that the issue?

Are you suggesting that Zorro Ranch should be turned into a memorial for his sexual abuse victims? Is there going to be a visitors center for tour groups and a teaching curriculum to help school age children understand the historical significance of the evil man?

You seem to suggest that this land is damned for any purpose except for the National Park Service to turn it into some place for struggle session training. If that's not the "correct" disposition of the land, what is?
