I felt the same way about Nissan and their CVTs after owning a Versa. I was surprised to hear that Toyota has switched to a CVT in the Camry recently. Hopefully their famous focus on quality means that it won't be the hot mess that Nissan CVTs frequently turn out to be. I watch a lot of videos by the Car Wizard and he believes that the only way to keep CVTs, especially Nissan, from failing is to change the fluid and filter at least every 50k miles and to clean the screen and magnets. Car Wizard is well worth watching not because you want to do advanced mechanical repairs and maintenance but because he explains why certain vehicle brands and models are trouble prone or labor intensive and which ones are reliable and easy to work on.
